I am reading a book called "I WOZ" the biog of one of the
founders of Apple Computers. It's a great read!. He mentions having a Ham
licence in his 6th grade (not sure how old that would make him). Seemingly

My K3 has worked flawlessly since I got it over a year ago, until
yesterday. It now shuts down if the power is advanced over 11 watts (pa
in). The power supply seems to be ok as it runs my TS 850 at 100 watts
without complaint. I have checked and swapped cables between the K3 and
my dummy load.

It is not clear to me from the schematic or the owner manual whether
this is for a 10 MHz or 49 MHz input signal .. the faq indicates
that it is 10 Mhz (and presumably converted up to

stressing anything. I use it to run my K2 and external KPA100. They are

the KAT2 and KIO2 are still sitting in the top lid on the floor beside me.
I have checked everything that I have done at least once. There is about 90
ohms between the collector(s) of the PA transistors and ground.
Anyone have any ideas please?

I have a fan sitting on top of the heatsink, it's blowing down at the moment
and that seems to cut down the amount the noisy little fan comes on quite
noticeably.

Almost the same thing happened to me on my standard K2. However I
did not trash the LCD. The cause was not transmitting into a dummy load; I
had it connected into the wrong antenna connector. The net result was I
trashed the pa transistors. You might wish to check them in your deb

I use a WELLER SOLDERING STATION -- MODEL WTCPN 60 watt
BUT my REAL recommendation is to get Kester 62, 36, 2 Sn, Pb, Ag solder.
It can be had in 1# AND smaller packs. It DOES a great job. The 2%
silver is what makes it work super...

I played for a few hours Friday night.
I used my KX3 with the PX3 and a USB keyboard for S&P calling and reply
including the serial number using function keys. I used logging to keep
track of the few contacts I made on a separate computer.
I operated on 80m and used FSK D on the KX3 to displ
a layer of
things to set up in the field (mid thirties celsius didn't help here) and
instead just controlled the KX3 from its front panel. Maybe I should take
another look at it, it's a fine piece of software.
