Nice setup Glen!
It's great to see so many Elecraft radios made it on the air for Field Day.
My hometown group gave up participating in FD this year so I decided that I
was going to take my Honda generator, put up a tent and put up a temporary
antenna on my own property to try to capture the

I've sent Bob and Kent a few examples of QRP contests (and ARRL Sweepstakes)
where participants define QRP as 5W CW and 10W SSB.
Since this in an Elecraft list let's see what the Elecraft QSO Party rules
have to say about QRP power levels...
When using QRP calling frequencies, use QRP power
of the contest.
One safe rule of thumb... If you never exceed 5W regardless of mode ALL
contest sponsors will acknowledge you as a QRP entry in their contests.

John - Sony may still offer decently priced repair/swap. I don't know if
there is any Sony service center near you but there is a large facility in
New Jersey.
I have an SW-100 that bit the dust last year and for a flat $75 I got it
repaired...it looks like they gave me a replacment unit in
Hi Carter -
Instead of setting the K2 for Hand Key I chose to take advantage of the
auto-sense mode.
I connected a diode in series with the tip and a diode in series with the
ring across the paddle mini-plug and out to my sparkless Navy straight key.
So can send with the paddle and the
Consistantly over the past 40 years I reaffirm on a daily basis that, at
least on 40M, as the sun lowers in the west I can hear European stations
about 45 minutes to an hour before they can hear me.
I have no explanation for it but suspect that the signal level is the same
on both ends but
Sounds like everyone was putting their K2's through the paces over the
weekend.
I only got a chance to play for about 45 minutes in the ARRL 160M contest
with 75Q's and 29 sections at 5W to a dipole at 30 ft.
But last weekend in the CQWW running 100W I broke the old SOSB/80/LP record

Hi Mike!
I have the Palm Paddle tapped and screwed to the side of my K2. My K1 also
had one expoxied to the right side of the radio. I forgot who on this list
bought my K1-4 but he can tell you his experience.
There are magnets too but they don't stick well to the aluminum cabinet of
the K1.
As hinted to in Don's comments there is another reason for going with the
KPA-100.
I love the fact that the KPA-100 has an integrated solid state T/R switch so
you can run full QSK.
Most of the imported amps are relay driven via the PTT line or RF sensing
with a time delay and are not able to be
I'm sure this has been asked before but I sure would like to have VFO-B have
its own 'mode' register so I could store 28.025 as CW and 28.500 as USB.
Is that possible or is there no room at the inn?
Also, does the RS-232 command set allow querying which VFO is active? I use B
for SSB during
I should have said ..so I could store 28.025 as CW on VFO-A and 28.500 as
USB on VFO-B
