Re: [Emc-users] OT: Servo drive tripping out
I am wondering if it just temperature related, I will have to turn the AC unit back on, and put a temp sensor in the cabinet, and see if I can get a common trip temperature maybe. Dropping the cabinet temp 20 degrees has got to make some stuff contract a little bit, maybe enough to make a crappy connection on the circuit board if it is a cracked resistor or capacitor?? [Emc-users] OT: Servo drive tripping out
Hello Guys, I have a Fanuc triple axis servo drive on one of my machines, and since last Thursday it has been randomly tripping out, and faulting the cnc control. It is from roughly 1995, and has been running just fine up until this point. Even while just sitting powered up, but with no servo motion commands it will trip out and shut off the machine. I noticed though, that when the cabinet doors are shut, it trips almost all the time, when I open the cabinet doors, it has been running since Friday, only tripping just once, early yesterday morning. The cabinet is air conditioned, and had the thermostat set at 95 degrees for the point to turn on. We turned it down, to 75 thinking that would help, but I think it actually made it worse. Would there be any way that on an old PCB, if something was going south on it, a humidity level that was too low could cause something to not work, and when it is hot and humid, it would function properly? Re: [Emc-users] OT: X Axis twitch on turning center
Well, I think I have found the problem, it was mechanical, I just didn't see it the last twenty or so hours of looking at the machine. This machine has a 1.5" bore hydraulic cylinder that acts as a counter balance cylinder for the cross slide and turret, that runs at full system hydraulic pressure, doing the math, the turret and slide weigh just over 800lbs, and it's a slant bed, so the cylinder is greatly needed. The seal around the rod of the cylinder is blown, spewing oil out all over, and I believe the seal it randomly binding the rod, causing a jerk when the servo finally gets it unstuck. Now to get it all torn down, and see exactly what went wrong. Re: [Emc-users] OT: X Axis twitch on turning center
So after spending the last few hours looking this thing, I have found the following, this is a 3 phrase brush-less AC Siemens servo, with I believe resolver (no tachometer) feedback to the drive ( for the commutation I would believe) and the encoder I replaced just goes back to the cnc control. As for machine rigidity, when running as it should, this machine cuts hardened D-2 tool steel tube and pipe tooling, and will maintain 0.0005" or better holding commanded size. The machine is roughly a 1992, and has been running fine, up until the last few months, when we noticed this problem. I had the operator set it up with one of the programs that we have just noticed this happening. WE ran it probably 5 or 6 times, and I noticed that there is no commonality to when it happens, or the frequency as to when it happens, whether the slide is going up, or down it is actually doing it, I was watching the ball screw/motor while during the cut, and it was going up, and while it moving along at roughly 6-8 IPM, I saw the screw make a very slight reversal, and then continue on making the cut in the proper direction. And I saw the same while it was cutting down, the screw was moving along nice and smoothly, then a very slight and quick reversal, and it continued on as commanded. This is happening on straight line moves, arcs, chamfers, any real commanded direction, all of which is making a real mess of the customers tooling we are trying to rework. [Emc-users] OT: X Axis twitch on turning center
Hello All, Figured I would ask here, with all he knowledge of servos and drives floating around, I have been having a problem on another one of our turning centers where the x axis will "twitch", for lack of a better word, at random times while moving down ( slant bed, back tool lathe). I have checked all couplings between the encoder and ball screw, checked the synchronous belt tension between the ball screw and the servo, I just replaced the encoder, and I still cannot figure out what my be causing this. It is not every time it is moving, and it is not in the same place every time when it does happen. Could there be something funky going on in the servo? I was thinking if I had a storage oscilloscope I could what the motor voltage to see what that is doing, but I don't have one of those, but have flirted with buying one in the past. Any thoughts as to what would cause this? -- Thanks Rick Lair Superior Roll & Turning LLC 399 East Center Street Petersburg MI, 49270 PH: 734-279-1831 FAX: 734-279-1166 www.superiorroll.com -- Attend Shape: An AT Tech Expo July 15-16. And You would be correct Andy, I don't know if he did it specifically for us, but we are the shop that Dewey wrote that component for. As for the component itself, it works fairly well, it is more of an incremental jog while program is paused, rather than a straight jog off of what you are machining, takes a little getting used to but after you get the hang of it, it works pretty good. The one major thing in regards to the component is, is that it DOES NOT OBEY MACHINE SOFT LIMITS, so if you are in the process of moving the axis with the component during a feed-hold, you can park your machine on a hard limit over-travel very easily, and this is stated in the component. It is very easy to implement into a config, add the proper section to the Applications section of the INI, then add the relevant sections to each individual axis for the machine, and it is off to the races. If you need any help, let me know. We have an Okuma bridge mill that we just installed, and it has an off brand retrofitted control on it, that we are having problems getting running. When it was retrofitted they used Opto22 I/O boards, and there are 6 of them, so I was figuring 3 7i80HD's or even 3 5i23's would allow me to hook up all 6 I/O boards along with a 7i48 to control the servo's and encoder feedback. -- Thanks Rick Lair Superior Roll & Turning LLC 399 East Center Street Petersburg MI, 49270 PH: 734-279-1831 FAX: 734-279-1166 www.superiorroll.com -- What NetFlow Analyzer can do for you? Re: [Emc-users] OT: Linux Security
This is all good info, I do know we have a firewall setup on the router, much more than that, I'm not sure, and I don't really mess with that aspect of or system, I'm just responsible for the Linux machines, As for the actual cnc machines, they are internet connected, but the operators do not do ANY browsing on them at all, they simply don't have the time, nor are allowed for that matter. My PC in the office is mainly what I was asking about, but all the conversation shed some light for me on the whole subject in general. The reason for being connected, was to simplify the programming aspect of things, now we don't have to worry about thumb drives for all of the machines laying around, we have 4 Linuxcnc machines running daily, along with roughly a dozen other CNC's, and only 1 person doing the programming. So being "connected" allows him to sit at his desk, make the program, drop it in the respective nc_files folder for whatever machine he is making the program for, and move on to his next program, Now that I built a PC using Mint, I have the only Linux based PC in the shop, that will be used for my daily computer, and that was the reason for asking about what safeguards I should worry about in regards to security. That and the fact that I like the Mint OS using Mate, so much, that I am going to build a PC for my home personal use, and am concerned about security for that as well, but that is a different animal all together, because at home we use our Blackberry smartphones as wifi hotspots to access the net on our laptop. So I don't use a router at home, and will need to figure out how to setup a firewall for that when I get to that point. -- Thanks Rick Lair Superior Roll & Turning LLC 399 East Center Street Petersburg MI, 49270 PH: 734-279-1831 FAX: 734-279-1166 www.superiorroll.com -- ___ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users

Re: [Emc-users] Copying G code files from PC to PC
I had to pull the SSD that has wheezy on it, and put them back onto the Ubuntu system, due to the problems with moving files around between PC's ( the reason for this topic to begin with). Friday, the supervisor tried to copy a file out of the machine, back to his PC to look at the edits that were done during the day, and he ran into the permissional problems we have been discussing. Now that I have the SSD with Wheezy on it, in my office, I hooked it up ,and have been messing around with it to see what I could find. What I know is that, when I transferred all of the files onto this new SSD, everything "had" read/write/execute status for owner/group/others.Now as you open and edit these files, then save them, the permissions get changed to rwx for the owner, then read only for group and others. When I originally copied all the nc files to this SSD, I copied them using "select all", then copy, then just pasted them into the respective nc_files folder, then from the terminal I ran "sudo chown -R cinci12u:cinci12u nc_files", and also "sudo chmod a+rxw -R nc_files" to get the permissions set accordingly, So how do I stop the editing from changing the permissions of the files? I tried a few editors (kate, gedit, mousepad) and don't see anywhere to set anything to stop changing these. -- Thanks Rick Lair Superior Roll & Turning LLC 399 East Center Street Petersburg MI, 49270 PH: 734-279-1831 FAX: 734-279-1166 www.superiorroll.com -- Transform Data into Opportunity. Even though all the machines have USB ports, thumb drives are just too easily lost, damaged, dropped in chip conveyors, etc,,, We have a few OEM controls in here that we have to use a USB on, and I have tried like hell to get them to tell me how to network them, with no luck. Re: [Emc-users] Copying G code files from PC to PC
Hey Guys, I just looked at the permissions of the programs in the wheezy machine, and here is a screenshot of what they look like using he "ls -al" command, https://app.box.com/s/hzn5v96nrieg37fxg8h3ygxh4abypohy I would say they are Windows Shares As for the system, the only thing I really do is get samba configured according to the notes I have found on the internet, pertaining to the specific OS I am on, here are my notes for how the Ubuntu machines are configured, >>> From the terminal sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf >>> Then modify workgroup = WORKGROUP TO workgroup = xxx ( whatever the name is of your workgroup ) >>> Then add these lines, name resolve order = bcast host force user = machine --- or whatever machine you are on. >>> Then save and exit then from the terminal, sudo service smbd restart And here are my notes for the Wheezy machines, >>> From the terminal sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf >>> Then modify in the Global Section workgroup = WORKGROUP TO workgroup = Srt >>> or whatever the workgroup name is # server string is the equivalent of the NT Description field server string = %h server (Samba %v) # Windows Internet Name Serving Support Section: # WINS Support - Tells the NMBD component of Samba to enable its WINS Server wins support = yes 1 >>> Then modify in the Authentication section, security = user >>> actual user name >>> Then Save, >>> Then to restart samba, sudo service samba restart Then to share the folders, On Ubuntu I just right click on the folder I want to share, select "Properties", then select "Share", and I select all 3 check boxes under "Share". For Wheezy I have to add "Folder Sharing" using the following commands, >>> To add folder sharing to the Thunar Folder Manager, run the following commands sudo apt-get install libglib2.0-dev xfce4-dev-tools libgtk2.0-dev libthunarx-2-dev libthunar-vfs-1-dev build-essential samba mkdir $HOME/thunar_plugin cd $HOME/thunar_plugin wget http://archive.xfce.org/src/thunar-plugins/thunar-shares-plugin/0.2/thunar-shares-plugin-0.2.0.tar.gz tar xvzf thunar-shares-plugin-0.2.0.tar.gz cd thunar-shares-plugin-0.2.0 sed -i "s|\(thunarx-\)1|\12|g" configure{,.in} thunar-plugin/Makefile.{am,in} sed -i "s|get_vfs_info|get_file_info|" libshares/libshares-util.c ./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-static=no make sudo make install sudo -s export USERSHARES_DIR="/var/lib/samba/usershares" export USERSHARES_GROUP="sambashare" mkdir -p ${USERSHARES_DIR} groupadd ${USERSHARES_GROUP} chown root:${USERSHARES_GROUP} ${USERSHARES_DIR} chmod 01770 ${USERSHARES_DIR} >>> Add your user to the Samba group replacing "your_username": usermod -a -G ${USERSHARES_GROUP} your_username >>> Then edit /etc/samba/smb.conf and under [global] section paste the following and save: usershare path = /var/lib/samba/usershares usershare max shares = 100 usershare allow guests = yes usershare owner only = False >>> Then reboot This is how all of my machines are setup, and as I said, the Ubuntu machines just work, we can transfer files back and forth between 2 ubuntu machines, or an Ubuntu and a Windows machine, regardless of any editing at either end. But as for the Wheezy machines, Yesterday the shop supervisor made a program in his office on a Windows XP machine, and saved it directly into the nc_files folder on the lathe that I have wheezy on, they ran that program just fine, they made some edits at the machine to file no problem, but today, I tried to copy the edited file out of the wheezy machine, back to my ubuntu PC in the office, and it gave me the following, https://app.box.com/s/mq9i7cul1ywrmi9nz2m8x698c6mhfskk Hopefully this helps shed some light on what I am doing, and what I can't do now, -- Thanks Rick Lair Superior Roll & Turning LLC 399 East Center Street Petersburg MI, 49270 PH: 734-279-1831 FAX: 734-279-1166 www.superiorroll.com -- Transform Data into Opportunity. The I/O cable was a little messy though, I used a ZL-CBL50-1P, that had the connector for the drive end, and flying leads on the other to direct wire to my 7i70/7i71/7i49, next time I will go with the ZL-SVC-CBL50 and a ZL-RTB50. That was a whole bunch of excess little 28AWG wire floating around in my wire trays, I only needed like 8 or 10 wires out of the cable, so that left almost 40 little wires loose, tried my best to clean it up, without just cutting them off. Hello All, I have been trying to setup sbackup on my wheezy machine, and cannot get the remote backup to my pc in the office to work properly, mainly due to not getting ssh setup properly. Attached is a link to a screenshot of the setup page. On my Ubuntu machines, I clicked the "Use a remote site" button, and manually entered the following "ssh://testpc:password@testpc.local/home/testpc/backup/10vc/" and it setup first shot, no problems. On the wheezy machine, it pops up the box that is on the right of the screenshot, and I am not 100% sure what to enter in the "Hostname" and "Path" boxes. I have tried everything I could think of for both, IP address and testpc.local for the hostname, and all kinds of variety in the path box, but no luck. Re: [Emc-users] Stake in ball screw Cincinnati Arrow
You are seeing pretty much exactly the same issues that I was having with both of my machines, you have the A2100 control, and that was the fault that I was getting on my machine, before I replaced the cables. That is definitely physical damage on the X axis cable, but the damage I am talking about is not visible,( someone step in if I botch this up) the insulation "breaks" down electrically, and as I take it, the drive senses this somehow, and shuts down. On our machine with the 850SX, we always saw X axis faults, when it was the Y or the Z being the fault, reason being, due to how the drive ready chain of logic in the drives was wired, it always saw the X drive as being faulted first. Your machine is a carbon copy of my Sabre, in respect to drives and controls. What error are you getting on the control, what is the machine actually doing? I have the Sabre 750 which is a 1995 and has the A2100 control, and we also have a Lancer 1250 with the 850SX control, which is from 1996, the Sabre has the Kollmorgen drive package, and the Lancer has the Red Cap Fanuc drive package. On both machines I have had to replace all of the servo motor power cables due to the wire insulation breaking down internally, constant servo drive failures, ON BOTH MACHINES, I had all the kollmorgen drives gone through, ( the problem started on the kollmorgens, then it started on the Fanucs) thinking that those were the problem, before I got my insulation resistance tester out and checked the cables, sure enough the cables were bad, and I ordered an entire spool of cable and replaced all of them. Have not had a single problem in over 2 1/2 years with either machine since I did that. With about 95% certainty, all the milacron, lathes and machining centers, the ball nuts all sit in and bolt to the mounting block ( we have at least a dozen Cincinnati Milacron machines, mix of lathes and mills, from 1978 to 1996, and they all have the same configuration, and I have worked on all of them). Usually 4-6 bolts on both the block and the nut cartridge. Re: [Emc-users] Stake in ball screw Cincinnati Arrow
No we have never had any issues like this, that is why I would be looking at the mounting of the physical ball nut and mounting block, It doesn't appear to have any taper pins, just 4 bolts to attach the mounting block the the casting, and 4 bolts to mount the cartridge into the mounting block. The nut could be worn and need rebuilt as andy has said, but the pictures show not too much wear and tear in and around the ball screw area. Re: [Emc-users] Stake in ball screw Cincinnati Arrow
Is the ball nut mounting block solidly attached to the back of the main spindle casting? There are probably 4-6 10mm or 12mm bolts, and 2 taper pins that attach the mounting block to the spindle casting, maybe the pins are sheared and the screws loose. Unless the mounting block is part of the casting, and the ball nut is in a cartridge that bolts/drops into the mounting block. That sounds/looks like a lot of backlash to be in nut alone. Re: [Emc-users] Trouble with 4th axis
It's an "integrated" encoder, ( 2500 ppr incremental attached to the end of the servo) here is the servo, http://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Shopping/Catalog/Motion_Control/Servo_Systems/Medium_Inertia_(1KW_-_3KW)_Servo_Systems/3KW_Servo_System_(Med_Inertia)/SVM-230 I just found the /A and /B were interchanged, ( the wires coming from the drive are coming out of a 50 conductor cable, 28 AWG wire, with the poorest color scheme possible to differentiate the wires, they were RED/WHITE for the /A and WHITE/RED for the /B ) I have found though, I cannot see the index-enable signal doing anything in halscope? And I just triple checked those two little bastards. No Z-/Z index signal could be an issue maybe in the grand scheme of things Maybe a firmware issue? Here is a screenshot of what it looks like, after the machine has homed itself, http://postimg.org/image/c8s8eqret/ look at the DTG of the A axis, why does it look like this, and why would it take off as soon as it homes itself, to some random position, like the one shown, at MAX_VELOCITY? [Emc-users] Add another "servo_thread" to my config
Good morning Guys, Just polishing up my build, and noticed a problem late Friday, I was randomly noticing some weird things happening in regards to my ladder logic, and looked at every thing regarding the ladder logic, even re-writing multiple rungs to see if maybe I had a programming error. What I found is, is my servo_thread is set at 2,500,000 ns and my ladder is peaking at 3,400,000 to 3,500,000 ns. So do I just make my servo_thread bigger, or add another "ladder_thread", just for my ladder program, then chisel down the servo_thread to what it needs to function properly? -- Thanks Rick Lair Superior Roll & Turning LLC 399 East Center Street Petersburg MI, 49270 PH: 734-279-1831 FAX: 734-279-1166 www.superiorroll.com -- Presto, an open source distributed SQL query engine for big data, initially developed by Facebook, enables you to easily query your data on Hadoop in a more interactive manner. I was wondering more about these pins, 21 bit IN FALSE axis.3.is-unlocked 21 bit OUT FALSE axis.3.unlock The servo setup isn't the issue, I already have that stuff in my INI/HAL files, I was just wondering about those pins mentioned, if they will take care of making sure that the table is un-clamped at the right times for just positioning and for contouring. The table is hydraulically clamped and unclamped, with feedback limit switches for each position, and there is a home position switch. Re: [Emc-users] Call an M Code from a Classic ladder output
I did answer my own question, I added a dwell time, then called the m39 from the m40, using subroutines. John, I am not sure how to use the M6 command to put the currently loaded tool away, back into the carousel. I am just doing this that way if the operator knows he needs to shut linuxcnc down, he can put the loaded tool away, and start it back up, without a tool in the spindle, and not confuse the hell out of the ladder logic and carousel component. I tried starting it up and using the M61QXX command, which works, but when you go to change the tool, the carousel is still sitting on pocket 1, ( haven't figured out how yet, I specify yet, to get the carousel to index to pocket XX that is set with the M61 command ) so it will try to put tool XX, into pocket 1, which would probably already have a tool in it. Here it is, after putting all the pieces together, and working the bugs out, I finally got the tool change working using Andy Pugh's carousel component to control the tool carousel, and a pretty healthy chunk of ladder logic to control everything else. All using Linuxcnc 2.7. Not to get too far off topic on my original thread, just wondering what I need to do to get linuxcnc-dev in the Synaptic Package manager. It was an absolute requirement that I got that to work, probably like yours, we now have multiple machines in the shop running Linuxcnc, and thumb drives are easy to lose, so I have all the machines networked together, so the guy in the office that makes the programs, can drop the finished g code program right into the nc_files folder in the respective machine, right from his desk. Maybe not the right place to ask, but, regarding the networking, why would randomly you not be able to see other network computers? [Emc-users] OT: Convert CRT to LCD
Hello Guys, This is off topic for sure, but knew of no better place to ask with all the electronics knowledge floating around here. On our big vertical lathe, it has an old 9" CRT that is starting to give us troubles, and I would like to convert it to an LCD, the only problem is, that I am having a hard time figuring out the signaling going to the new monitor. It is a Fanuc control, so it has a Honda 20 pin male connector going to the CRT unit, which I scavenged up the diagram for the pin-out. I have 20 pin female connectors here already, so I can make a patch cable to VGA to connect it to the new monitor, but the signals are different from one to another. The current CRT has Hsync, Vsync, and a single wire Video signal, along with three 0V wires in the harness, and on a separate connector, the power for the monitor. But a standard VGA has Red, Green, Blue, then Hsync, and Vsync, and a few GRD connections. Maybe I need a signal converter, I have found quite a few of them on eBay, or can I just make up a cable and run with it? -- Thanks Rick Lair Superior Roll & Turning LLC 399 East Center Street Petersburg MI, 49270 PH: 734-279-1831 FAX: 734-279-1166 www.superiorroll.com -- ___ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users

Re: [Emc-users] BUG in 2.6.6 and newer, was Re: Bug in 2.6 and Newer
Thanks Chris, I reworked it using the halui.feed-inhibit with a set/reset coil for the push-button interaction, and it works perfect, stopping the machine, I paralleled the inhibit signal along side the halui.program.pause and halui.program.resume outputs in my ladder program. I re-compiled back to the current 2.6.8, and motion stops as it should, due to utilizing the feed inhibit, but, on the resume there is still some funny business that I am noticing, a couple of times, after I hit resume, the machine actually sat there for 3-4 seconds, before continuing with the programmed g-code. I just went through and started back at 2.6.4, compiled, loaded a program, halui.program.pause and halui.program.resume work fine, as soon as it see's the input, instantaneously I get the intended outputs/machine reaction. Did the same thing with 2.6.5, same results, instantaneous outputs. Did the same thing with 2.6.6, now I see a delay in the output of the intended input, by a second or so. This must be a red herring, because the only change in halui between 2.6.5 and 2.6.6 has to do with the management of Task modes during MDI calls, nothing that should affect the handling of pause. Also, nothing at all changed in Task or Motion between those versions, which are the other places a pause delay could happen. -- Thanks Rick Lair Superior Roll Turning LLC 399 East Center Street Petersburg MI, 49270 PH: 734-279-1831 FAX: 734-279-1166 www.superiorroll.com -- Don't Limit Your Business. [Emc-users] Go back to 2.6.4
I had a HDD take a crap on me late yesterday, I believe vibration related, and have already loaded up a new drive, but I want to be able to go back to the 2.6.4 release, would the following be appropriate to perform from the command line to make that happen, git branch 2.6.4 or maybe git checkout 2.6.4 We run Gmoccapy, and I know that around the 2.6.5-2.6.6 release there were some pin changes and other things that came into place that I will need to figure out at another time, I just need to get the machine to same state it was in as of yesterday at 3 o'clock, so they can get back on the job hanging in the chuck. -- Thanks Rick Lair Superior Roll Turning LLC 399 East Center Street Petersburg MI, 49270 PH: 734-279-1831 FAX: 734-279-1166 www.superiorroll.com -- Don't Limit Your Business.
