I did made expert/developement install and all telnet stuff was
installed,only thing what disabled its use was xinitd.
Even xinitd daemon started and telnetd started telnet didn't
work.
But when I started INITD instead of XINITD telnet worked.

The reason should be obvious - telnet is insecure and is banned both internally
and externally at most corproates these days, and should likewise not be
installed on your home machine. SSH deprecates Telnet, is just as uniquitous,
and makes running graphical apps remotely much easier.

I did a stupid thing. I tried to update the Kernel from 2.2.X to
2.2.16 using the Update manager. Little needs to be said -- it didn't work.
In fact my system won't boot anymore. I get a System Panic can't mount root
fs on 08:05. Anyway I need to back out of the Kernel upgrade. Do

I've found that LM7.1 to be far less troublesome than
7.2, especially during installation (7.2 always gives
me a blank screen/freezes during the X part of the
install). Then again, I use gnome and enlightenment
--which are packaged better on 7.1 as well imho.

me to check that the telnet service is enable in /etc/xinetd/telnet but
this file doesn't exist.
