Re: [Felvtalk] Clavamox aka Augmentin
When I was bitten by a cat, turned out to be a neighbor on next road, went to ER (did not think about what might happen) because blood spurting everywhere, they did not have Augmentin - it is too expensive to stock! I swear, that is what the nurse told the doctor so he had me soak my hand in Betadne for an hour and then get the Augmentin at the pharmacy next day. I had let it bleed so it would wash out bacteria and applied a pressure bandage. In case that happens again, I had my doctor give me a script for Augmentin to keep on hand - just in case. Since I rescue injured vultures, coons and others, she did not even question my reason, just gave it to me, especially after I told about the ER episode. Hi Lee, I have Clavamox in 250 mgs and 375 mgs, as well as the 62.5 mgs that are for the cats. Augmentin seems to be 250, 500, and 875. Re: [Felvtalk] Clavamox aka Augmentin
Hi Beth If your Vet knows you are treating, could s/he simply provide a prescription? Mine does, either writes it so I can shop it around, or for some, calls in for the $4 and free pharmacy deals. There are places that sell Abx without prescription, but I'm not trusting enough. Places like KVVet Supply, Valley Vet and Jeffers have accredited pharmacies, and the prices are good. I once used a place called VetServ, but don;t know if they are still in business. IIRC, they had their own "staff" vets which somehow were allowed to prescribe long distance without ever seeing the animal. They were expensive, I thought. Natalie: Thats true! I had cats spit the liquid all out. If I can get the pill down in her throat well enough I know she took all of the necessary dosage. She threw up once after it, but ever since she keeps it down. Gary: I can't get her to eat yet, so I can't mix it in her food. That would be a lot less stress for both of us. I tried everything but she doesn't want it. Luckely I did see her drink water this morning. I will call the vet today and question the dosage. It seems a lot to me. Re: [Felvtalk] clavamox
The most my vet ever prescribed was 1 1/2 eyedroppers, depending on cat's large size...normally, 1 eyedropper twice a day. Clavamox is more likely to make them sick than Amoxi - maybe you could switch...the taste is much better for cats. Both are pediatric formulascertainly not made palatable for cats. Clavamox is more acidy tasting than Amoxi, which is more like strawberry taste. -Original Message- From: felvtalk-boun...@felineleukemia.org [mailto:felvtalk-boun...@felineleukemia.org] On Behalf Of Peggy Verdonck Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2010 7:44 PM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: [Felvtalk] clavamox Hi, This is the first email I'm sending out since 1 of my cats got diagnosed with Felv yesterday. Maybe somebody who has no other cats, or someone who has 1 or more cats with the same condition. I was wondering if anyone knows of anybody who might be able to take her. We are willing to help pay for the medications she might need. She is such a sweet cat and I'm heart broken about this situations! My cats are my everything!
