Judy,
It is great that you are getting some food down him. You can also syringe
feed Nutrical (can get from your vet or order online, but vet would be best
bet due to delay for shipping), though they usually lap it up themselves if
they are not in too bad of shape. About 3cc twice/day will
Yes, she is anemic. I'm not sure what her HCT is. She's been on doxy for about
a week now. We don't know if it's Hemobart/Mycoplasma since that's an
additional test, but I'd rather be safe than sorry since I did lose one to
Hemobart last year.

I just sent a post asking for 'life saving' information from the list.
There was another post that was held by the moderator yesterday that
again, had to do with the treatment and well being of a FELV cat.
Please tell me what is going on.

How were his liver values? He isn't yellow at all (whites of eyes,
insides of ears)? Just worry about hepatic lipidosis, the couple of
run ins we've had with it were very, very sick cats but a friend just
had a rescue who looked so good (also eating pretty well) they had no
idea she was
Judy,
I don't want to get into a food fight with Karen but Nutri-Cal should not be
used as a replacement for food. Here are the ingredients from Doctors Foster
and Smith web site.
Regular Nutri-Cal
Ingredients: Corn Syrup, Soybean Oil, Malt Syrup, Cod Liver Oil, Cane Molasses,
This was definitely the case with my Luc, who stopped eating and we didn't
notice right away (4 other cats free-feeding from same bowls). Still don't
know if it was some sort of pancreatitis or what. Finally noticed he wasn't
himself, took to high-class emergency vet 20 miles away for tests --
Sharyl, my heart goes out to you to lose your little girl so suddenly.
It's hard enough when they've been sick and you know the end is near.
Warm thoughts headed your way.

I have to say that Nutrical was invaluable to us in saving Autumn's
life. She couldn't keep anything down and everytime she had diarrhea,
she also vomited. Nutrical and Pedialyte kept her hydrated and
nourished. I am sure that without it we would have lost her. Of
course, we got her back

I have to agree about the Nutrical, it is OK to use in an emergency
once or twice but not on a regular basis, Fred is and has been eating
baby food for months with supplements added of course and he has gained
quite a bit of weight, about a pound, which for a CRF cat is pretty darn
good!!
I have been following the horror story about the 21 horses in Florida
who died mysteriously
before a polo match. It has been discovered that the cause of death
was a 'supplement' given
mistakingly by FRANCKS COMPOUNDING LAB in Ocala Florida. Not only is
this tragic for the

I called the hospital pharmacy who sells it to my vet and she said they

I will forward to another friend who gets it from another vet and ask

You could always formulate it yourself or get a vet tech to help you. It is
a pain to do it, but one vial of full strength interferon will make more of
the stuff for cats than you could use in a lifetime. Throw away the excess
or share with someone. You have to freeze it after you cut it the

Ditto for Nutrical. When a cat won't eat anything, if you can get some
Nutrical in them, it at least gives them some basic nutrients and sometimes
helps jump start their appetite

I too am new to this disease and discussion site, but unfortunately am having
to take a crash course for multiple cats that I rescued from a dire situation
last summer.
I thought I would send this website along. I don't know what they might have

My husband and I have been feeding Wilson with a syringe since last night. All
three of us are learning, and I am grateful for the reviews of the supplements.
I did order some Nutrical and some Clinicare on line. Until we get the
shipment, we will continue with smushed pate style cat food. I
Janet, Jenni is the vet who normally gets interferon for my friend...
Jenni can't get it right now either. It's hard to get the one that is the
best kind to use. at this moment I can't remember which is which.

Charlotte returned to the vet today as scheduled. Her PCV is up to 19% versus
9% a week ago. The CBC should be back tomorrow. Both the vet and the vet tech
noticed how much better she looks. She'll be back for a recheck in a couple of
weeks.
And if I may vent a little: we adopted out 2 cats
Suggestion for the future: Contact the adopter's vet before the cat
is released re not killing an innocent cat and see if the vet will

Additionally have the adopter sign a mini contract. Sometimes that

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts. They help. It was just so unexpected.
Most of my cats have special needs so I know I probably won't have the
pleasure of their company for years and years.
Treasure each day with your beloved furry companions.

I work at a county shelter. We really can't do any true screening, nor can we
ask the hard questions. The adoption application needs to be revised big time.
