Re: [Felvtalk] Anyone There....
I feel for you loosing 3 in one year, it is hard enough to just loose one a year. Anie was my last to go. Hoepfully Harley, Dee and Homie are healthy and will live long lives. I am the one with problems, went in for routine visit and was sent to cardioligist who told me I needed surgery. I did not agree so he told me ok, patient refused surgery, next day was informed patient passed. So I went for many rounds of tests, heart, brathing, etc. and had the aortic valve replaced on 8/31, and pacemaker on 9/1 and went home on 9/2.. I had the TAVR proceedure done which runs the new bovine valve from an incision in the groin through the arteries to the heart. It goes inside the old valve and a metal framework forces the old valve open more. This is the way to go if you do not want a lo g hospital stay and open heart surgery. I have been "resting" since the last of June and will continue to be on restricted activity until December. Then I have to get my muscles toned up again. I insisted on being able to clean boxes, fill water fountains and feed my cats. So, they only had to make do with someone else for 3 days. You cannot drive for 2 weeks. This has been my biggest problem, not doing anything but crosswords and crochet. I thought maybe I was missing out on things, but sitting and sleeping keeps you off the internet. Thought maybe everyone was free from illness and all kitties were doing fine. Hi, I am new to this list. I've just found out that a stray cat I've been looking after is FeLV+. She is an adorable, petite young female (1-2 years old) that I've named Munchkin who is spayed, and otherwise healthy. The most special thing about her is that she LOVES other cats. She chases after them and tries to play with them, and jumps up onto window ledges wherever she sees a cat sitting in a window. When I let her into my home, she ran straight to my sleeping cat and snuggled in next to him. I don't think she would be immediately friendly to other people since it took her awhile to trust me, but she now purrs and sleeps in my lap. She would make a wonderful companion for another FeLV+ cat. I cannot keep her because my cat is FeLV-negative and unvaccinated. I am lucky to have found a cat rescue to take her in on Monday, but she will be confined separate from other cats, and this makes me sad for her. Is there anyone who wants her? I'm in the Bay Area, California, and could drive her to you. Either before or after Monday (I'm sure I could get her back from her new lodgings, but would rather not put her through more than one move). Thank you everyone for your replies. I had this set on digest so I didn't see them. I am just learning about FeLV, and I have heard everything from a cat can catch it from walking across a surface a positive cat touched days ago, to it being very difficult to transmit even with direct contact. My first concern is to protect my existing cat. 2 different vets advised me against vaccinating him for FeLV because of sarcoma risk (he is an indoor cat). I'm considering it anyway but haven't made a decision. One vet told me that the PureVax non-adjuvanted vaccine was no better in preventing sarcoma. I'm considering getting my cat vaccinated anyway but haven't made a decision. Keeping them separated inside my small home is not possible. Ideally I'd like to find somewhere for this stray kitty with an enclosed outdoor area because she's apparently used to being an indoor/outdoor cat. If a cat is to be relinquished to any organization please do remember to ask questions on funding, nonprofit status, how many cats they have, how long they live, do they separate FIV from FeLV, do they medicate, etc or this cat may end up in such a good situation where a bathroom is preferred. Good intentions are great but follow up with questions and an actual visit in person to the organization is important or what is the point. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org

I sent you an email last night but maybe it didn't make it, my internet was acting funny last night and I didn't get a response yet so I'm worried you didn't get it. Where are you in NYC? Could you send me your info or may I send you the info to reach out directly to the rescue who is trying to place him. My contact think that they will allow transport to you. I hope we manage to connect - maybe you might be interested in a kitten too? Someone sent me an email today asking for help. I should have a link with image on it soon. I also just had someone local contact me about a FeLV kitten her friend pulled from a nyc shelter but her family is flipping out about his felv status and she has to rehome the cat. If you want to see the kitty, he's in facebook on the Philly Urgent's page - photo gallery called urgent cats - he's gray, he's a bit beat up but still cute and over someone's shoulder. He just takes your heart. Open to suggestions. I'm not a rescue or non profit. Just involved b/c of Buddy. :) Dana * * www.twitter.com/smallspark * Share something interesting today.* On Wed, Mar 16, 2011 at 12:11 PM, POTT, BEVERLY p...@mailbox.sc.edu wrote: My cat Bob shared the link on his Facebook profile, too... www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1651466497581set=a.1457687733233.205681 3.1564571765 -Original Message- From: dana giordano [mailto:giordano.d...@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 15, 2011 7:41 PM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: [Felvtalk] anyone in PA area or anywhere take in a super lovey friendly FelV positive senior? Re: [Felvtalk] anyone know how to make an Oxygen tank?
Claudia, I don't know about a home made oxygen tank but know several people in the heart group have made an oxygen tent. They wrap a small carrier in plastic (shower curtain or trash bag) then put the line from the oxygen tank into the carrier. Here is the link for the yahoo heart group. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/feline-heart/ I know there is a yahoo asthma group but I do not have a link for it. There's some really great advice on here. I have a question: someone told me about home-made Oxygen tanks for cats. I have an fiv kitty who also has asthma. I'm cautious about using Steroids on her. One time she ahd a really bad episode, couphing, panting, and lying on her side. IT was awful. I rushed her to the vet. THey of course had an Oxygen tank. Re: [Felvtalk] anyone know how to make an Oxygen tank?
I had one but passed it on to someone else - can't remember who. The husband of a local rescuer, an engineer, had made it, and she passed it on to me. He had covered the openings of a carrier with plastic, and attached a connector that the oxygen tank attached to. Course oxygen tanks aren't readily available, you have to have a prescription for them. Gloria On Dec 29, 2008, at 2:44 PM, Claudia wrote: Hi, I'm relatively new to this board. Re: [Felvtalk] anyone know how to make an Oxygen tank?
A vet can write one. Best to buy one if possible. Getting some companies to rent one for use for a pet can be difficult. A question: divers have tanks. Can one be converted for use? Welders use tanks of oxygen and you can rent or buy them, just don't know if the oxygen in them would be considered safe to breathe.
