Actually, the "iTunes" format is going to be better than MP3. It's actually MP4, or AAC. For the same size, the file is going to sound better than a MP3. And everything made since like 2009 or is running a more modern OS (Windows Vista+ and Mac OS X 10.6+) should be able to play it just fine.

No, 10.9.2 doesn't significantly slow down anything. In fact, things generally seem a little snappier on my 2008 MacPro. I think some of that is due to the memory compression. Best thing one should do upgrading from 10.6 is to do a complete new install on a new drive, and then use the migration
