Well I fell for it, but then the last upgrade I got was in 1993 ;-)
Drove me insane when I had to ring them today though, listening for
45mins to some crappy version of 'Blackbird' so I could get back into
my account. Ouf ! They certainly are very suss musically :-/

Nobody (except for MakeMusic or whatever the company is currently
called) has said that this is an upgrade that people should buy.

If I had upgraded for the initial "deal" of $149 I would be very very
angry with them for making this $99 offer.

I did not fall for it back when it was first announced, and I'm not
going to fall for it this time around either.

I fear I will not be buying another Finale upgrade for quite a while, if
ever.

I start all my new projects in Sibelius and it's been years since
anybody has contacted me about continuing to work on Finale files, so
I'll simply stick with 14.5 and see if I ever feel the urge to upgrade
to a newer version of Finale.

And while all along I've bought every single upgrade, often more to show
my continued support for Finale than because I needed something special
that was in a new upgrade, I'm tired of paying for supposed bug-fixes
which should be free in updates, and which in reality have not been as
plentiful (at least for my normal workflow and projects) as the
publicity claims.

There has been nothing new in Finale that would make me buy an upgrade
since they introduced linked score/parts and possibly one or two
upgrades after that where they supposedly got the linked score/parts to
work better. Nowadays it's just feeding the cash cow instead of getting
real value for the money spent and I frankly can't afford that any more.

So I'm out on this upgrade, even for $99. And possibly out for all the
future ones as well.

Re: [Finale] to upgrade or not...

2016-07-14 Thread Brian Appleby
In 1988 or 89 two friends and I wangled NAMM passes through a local music store
in Edmonton. We had been using DMCS and Professional Composer and getting
frustrated with their limitations and bugs. We were hanging around a booth,
might have been MOTU, when a guy approached us and asked if we would like to
see a new notation program. We went up to a suite and got a demo from Phil
Farrand, the original genius behind Finale. He was mostly pumped about showing
us the real time transcription features but we could see the notation potential
was far ahead of what we were using. We ordered three copies for the music
store (don’t think we had any authority to do that) and bought them from the
store as soon as they arrived, which wasn’t very long. We all had 000xxx
three-digit serial numbers, which we still have today with the addition of some
letters and zeros. As soon as we got our hands on Finale we dove right into a
publishing project and learned on the go. We’ve used it ever since, and marvel
at how powerful and (comparatively) easy to use the program has become. All of
our publications at ApRo Music have been self published using Finale, dating
back to 1989.

As a Start Trek Next Generation fan, I was fascinated a few years later to
learn than Phil Farrand was the author of The Nitpickers Guide for Next
Generation Trekkers and a few subsequent volumes. A man of many and varied
interests, apparently.

Doubt that any of Phil’s code remains, but the program is still obviously the
child of that demo we saw back then.

Re: [Finale] to upgrade or not...

2016-07-14 Thread Robert Patterson
I have searched high and low and can't find a download link for the Finale
1.0 emulator. It uses the mac emulator Mini vMac
, which is available for both macOS and
Windows (as well as Linux).

In researching this, I am intrigued to discover that Mini vMac is actively
being developed, including a pending iOS version. You'll be able to run
Finale 1.0 on your iPhone! (Haha. I think the main impetus around
development is resurrecting the old Mac games.)

I have recently taken files from F2000 and even earlier into F2014 (Windows; I
have downloaded F2014.5 but hit installation problems). A frequent problem is
that in scrolling playback of the imported file the sound precedes the
scrolling by a second or so. For various reasons I have also occasionally had
to set up a new empty score and transfer content stave by stave. My files are
not particularly large, typically less than 15 staves and no percussion.

I did a lot of hand-copying back in the 70's - paid part of my way
through college doing it, and was tempted to go to LA to work for
Alphaeus or Judy Greene, but got sidetracked.
Been using FInale since probably version 2 or so - I remember the
enormous manuals we got with that version. I still use version 10, and
have had zero problems under Windows 10 (64 bit). I have 2012, but ...
many of the changes were unfriendly to the way I work, so I don't use it.
I used Finale during the years I was a copyist for Walrus Music,
until it got sold, and never had a complaint, but I also built a lot of
libraries that helped legibility, and that didn't transfer to 2012.

Re: [Finale] to upgrade or not...

2016-07-13 Thread Mark D Lew
In the late 1980s I played around with Lime. I liked Lime in its general
structure and approach, but it was limited.

The first version of Finale I used was version 2-point-something, which I
borrowed from a cousin. It wasn’t long before I knew I wanted it, so I bought
my own and started with v3.0. I still fondly remember the lovely three-volume
user manual/tutorial/encyclopedia.

I was a frequent Finale user all through the 1990s, but some time around 2005
my life turned in a different direction and since then engraving is something I
only dabble in occasionally. This year, for the first time in almost three
decades, I’m without any working version of Finale. I had to upgrade my
computer in January; I was advised that my version of Finale — v2010 — wouldn’t
work well on my new operating system, so I never reinstalled it.

I’m only now starting to miss it. A few weeks ago I pulled out an old
arrangement and started doodling with it — with pen and paper! — and more
generally I’ve started feeling the desire to get back into music again.

So now I’m planning to upgrade. I think there’s a good chance I’ll make the
jump to Dorico in the fall, but I don’t think I’ll want to be with nothing for
that long. (And besides, most of the cost will be made up in the cross-grade
vs new price for Dorico.)

2016-07-13 Thread Williams, Jim
Wow-didn't think this would elicit so many replies

I had the original MusicPrinter on my apple
][e and][e, then moved to Laser Music Processor (anyone else use that one???)
and MusicPrinter Plus on my PCs circa 1987(?).
I also had a utility called Laser Twin that (allegedly) made 9-pin dot-matrix
printer output resemble a laser printer. Sorta. It did so by overtyping six or
seven times. Sometimes it put holes in the paper from all the overtyping, as I
recall.

Another since-v.1 user here. Prior to that, I tried using MOTU Professional
Composer. I still have a score that used MOTU for notes only, and I drew in
slurs, dynamics, articulations by hand (which I was OK with because I’m of the
generation that had a Pelikan fountain pen with a music nib, a set of raised
rulers, and an electric eraser). I amuse my students by telling them that when
I moved to from LA to NYC in 1979 to start a doctorate program, one could still
find employment in downtown LA or midtown NYC in a room full of music scribes,
all with pen and ink, dutifully writing out scores and parts for shows, bands,
commercials, and the few composers who were getting big orchestral
performances. We used to get our onion-skin paper and bring in the finished
scores for blue-print printing at Circle Blue Print in NYC, Alpheus (which
became Judy Green Music) in LA. Judy Green also had all the best paper and
pencils (with double-sized erasers) and general supplies (pens, nibs, ink,
special rulers).

Then Finale! Did v.1 come out in 1988? Even on a Mac Plus, (files on one
floppy, programs on the other — remember the repeated disk swapping?), and pre
smart shapes (when you had to generate each slur as an independent graphic),
and tiny computer screens, it was worth the effort — if only because fixing
mistakes was faster, and, with enough fussing, you could get something that
actually looked pretty good!  I think it was finally around the mid 1990s that
Finale became faster than doing it by hand.

Re: [Finale] to upgrade or not...

2016-07-13 Thread Jón Kristinn Cortez

I was using (HB) Music Engraver on Mac SE when I saw the ad for Finale 1. The
price was $1.000!
I had to save up and got Finale 2.0.6 and have had nearly all upgrades since.
Oldest file now on my computer is Finale 3.0.1r11. Opens fine in Finale 2014d.

Don't ask me how much it cost. >>shudder<< (You other 1.0 users know
exactly how much!)

Before that I was using Deluxe Music Construction Set and ProCo.

For the twentieth anniversary (F09 I believe), MM released a standalone app
that runs Finale 1.0 inside a Mac 512 virtual machine. Last time I checked
you could still download it. How far we've come!

(I can still run my Mac OS 9 versions of Finale in Sheepshaver running on

I just loaded up a Finale 97 file to test. No problems at all. Fonts & such
needed updating (no more Tms Rmn or Helv), but the conversion didn't lose
anything.

Now off to find some Finale 2.2 files to test... :)

F14.5 opens any legacy file, including Fin09. How well the conversion works
may depending on saves in intermediate versions, but short of possible
Adobe PS Type 1 font encoding issues, I don't imagine Johannes will see any
significant issues upgrading a F09 file.

What you may be thinking of is that Fin14+ can *export* a legacy F12 file.
It cannot export a legacy file for any version before F12.

Re: [Finale] to upgrade or not...

2016-07-13 Thread Dick Hauser
I’m hoping others can confirm my memory on upgrades. It’s my understanding
that F12 is the compatibility link between the post 12 version database
structure and the legacy versions. That is, F14 won’t open an F09 file
directly. The process to bring forward legacy files is to open and save from
F2012 which will make it available to later versions like F14.5. Is that true?

2016-07-13 Thread Robert Patterson
I know Fin12 has issues with playback and some of the dialog boxes crash in
10.11. I have no experience with Fin09. Fin08 crashes on startup, which is
why I need my virtual.

At some point Apple will make 64-bit mandatory by dropping 32-bit runtime
support. That day may be coming sooner than later. I haven't found any
sources that say exactly when it will be, but for example the iOS store has
been requiring new apps to include 64-bit support for over a year. If Apple
does drop 32-bit runtime in macOS, Fin09 will not run.

Just putting my 2 cents in here, I have not upgraded since 2001, and if I
upgrade I am definitely going to wait for the 64-bit version. I just hope
upgrading will solve my problem of needing to have the CD handy every single

I don't know if Makemusic has announced whether the 64-bit version will be
a paid upgrade. I would not be surprised if it were, however.

I don't think you'll encounter any significant issues upgrading Fin09
files. The one caution I would mention is if you use any Adobe PS Type 1
fonts. If so, you may want to find OpenType equivalents (or make your own
with something like TypeTool.)

Personally, though, I would recommend setting up a virtual 10.7 or
thereabouts using Fusion or Parallels, and keeping Fin09 alive that way. It
sidesteps the entire upgrade issue.

Does this mean the 64Bit version will be a paid for upgrade? Otherwise I
cannot really see why I should wait. I am running the most recent
version of MacOS on the newest MacBook pro, so speed shouldn't be a

Is the next version of Finale around the corner? In that case I may well

The smart shape improvements look really good. So do some others,
although I would have to redo my default files, I guess, which I haven't
got time for right now.

How is compatibility with older files?

2016-07-12 Thread Robert Patterson
Linked parts were available in Fin09 but there have been big improvements
since then. You can now unlink special tools edits like beams, note
spacing, etc. I also really like the beat-attached smart shapes that
replaced measure-attached. They allow for unlinked editing of (for example)
hairpin dynamic marks.

Unicode font support might be important to you as well.

Another big change is in optimization and staff groups. This is a big deal
as well. The process is (for the most part) greatly improved. You will run
into issues if you need to completely change the groups on a per-system
basis. It can be done, but it's not as easy as before. (I wrote a plugin to
help with this, btw, and I think Jari has one too.) The tradeoff is you
never have to worry about losing staves on a system. If there is music in a
staff, it can't be hidden without force-hiding it. And groups are tied to
measure ranges rather than systems.

I'm sure there are other improvements, but I can't call them to mind at the
moment. Having said that, I think you should wait for the 64-bit version
before you upgrade, unless you absolutely have to run on an outdated Mac OS.

You do ask the hard questions! :-)

I have had no problems running Windows 7 nor have I had any problems
running Windows8 or 8.1. I will say that I hate the Metro aspect of
Windows 8 so I searched online and found the setting which allows my
computer to boot to the desktop so it's just like every version of
windows before 8, only I can make use of the Metro interface if I want.

However if I needed to buy another computer I would be sorely tempted to
buy a Mac, having watched my daughter use her MacBook Pro for the past
year and a half. She loves it and never once has she said to me Dad, I
have a problem with my computer, can you help me?

The only thing holding me back is that there are two Windows-based
products which aren't available in comparable Mac versions:
Band-in-a-Box and WordPerfect. WordPerfect isn't available for Mac at
all and BIAB's Mac version seriously lags behind the Windows version. I
understand that I could run those under Parallels but then I would have
to buy another installation for Windows to install there (Unless I
misunderstand how Parallels works, which may well be the case).

But if you look into Macs and check out the Mac versions of whatever
software you want to use, you might be surprised at what a nice
computing environment it is. It's not without it's problems, as
witnessed by the many messages on this Finale list about problems where
the solution seems to be to trash some Preferences folder or some Font
folder.

If you want to stay in the Windows world, either Win7 or Win8 (or 8.1)
should be fine -- just be warned it's a very different world from WinXP.
I made the transition gradually through WinVista so it was a gradual
change. Jumping from WinXP will need some adjustment time.

Re: [Finale] OS upgrade - 7 vs 8 ...

2014-06-08 Thread Craig Parmerlee
Windows 8 is HORRIBLE. Microsoft deserves to go out of business because
of this one. The metro user interface is horrendous. Only a complete
corporate idiot could believe that users actually want to have a cell
phone interface on their desktop.

As an operating system, 8.1 is functional, although there is absolutely
no excuse for Microsoft breaking so many apps and drivers EVERY TIME
they upgrade the OS. If you can get all the apps and drivers sorted
out, the operating system performs OK.

With 8.1 Microsoft, said that they were restoring the Start Button
functionality, but they lied. They just made the Metro interface
worse. But they did make it more practical to stay away from the metro
interface most of the time. IMHO, Windows 8.1 is only tolerable if you
install the third-party Start8 product (which would be the smartest $5
you ever spent.) With that, you can pretty much avoid most of Win 8 and
it then behaves like a newer version of Windows 7.

This week, I received a new system for my music studio -- a high powered
custom-built machine. If I could have ordered that with Win 7 I would
have, but that wasn't an option. After spending 2 solid days installing
all my software and working through all the Win 8.1 issues, I thought I
had reached a stable point. Just then, Windows decided that my logon
password was invalid. I was crushed. I had logged on 30 times with
that password and now the system was completely inaccessible. Now I was
looking at the grim prospects of having to wipe my system and rebuild
the OS from scratch. That would have been a real mess because several
of my apps -- including Finale -- have convoluted authentication
schemes, and I would have had to contact each vendor to get licenses
released or re-issued.

I had a hunch that this invalid password corresponded with a
networking interruption. I removed my wireless adapter and then I was
able to logon -- with that same password. Needless to say, the next
thing I did was remove the password, which isn't really necessary on
that machine. But this is just ridiculous. If you use Win 8.1 and have
your computer is a physically secure location behind a firewall, I'd
encourage you to remove the password requirement, or at least make sure
you have created the password recovery thumb drive.

So bottom line: Horrible company. Horrible OS. Totally stupid idea.

But as a Finale platform, it can be reliable with good performance.

Re: [Finale] Fin2012 upgrade

2011-10-23 Thread Florence + Michael
A full install is more than two and a half gigabytes (it's the Garritan sounds
that take up most of the space). The installer needs to download those
gigabytes from MakeMusic to your computer, taking more or less time depending
on your connection speed and how busy the MakeMusic server is.

On Mac there are two problems with the installer: first, it adds two zeros to
the percentages, showing from 100% to 1%, and second, its estimate of the
time remaining is wildly wrong. After a few minutes it told me that there was
about a minute left until completion. It kept telling me this for two hours,
which was unsettling. After a bit more than two hours, the installation was
complete, which is normal for my internet connection and the size of the files.

My install took a long time, and I have a very fast internet connection. I
think the installer downloads the actual content from the Internet, and this is
why the initial download is quick, but the install is very long. A progress bar

Thanks to all for your comments.

I didn't realize new Apples were due out soon. I'm not really the
sort of person to rush out and get the latest model anyway -- if I
were, I probably wouldn't be working on a seven-year-old computer
right now -- but perhaps it will be an opportunity to get the old
model at a discounted price. Anyway, just because of time
constraints I was already leaning toward putting off the purchase and
nothing has persuaded me otherwise.

As for Finale, I shall be sure to turn off all the automatic this and
automatic that. That's my inclination, anyway. I'm kind of a control-
freak and I prefer to do all the spacing, layout, word extension, and
hyphens deliberately.

[Finale] TAN: upgrade advice wanted

2010-03-28 Thread Mark D Lew
After several years of doing very little engraving, I've said yes to
a big job starting in a few weeks. This means I'll be upgrading ...
all the way from v2004!

It's been so long, I don't remember what's involved. Is there
anything I need to be on watch for as I upgrade? I gather from
recent discussions on the list that I'll still be able to open old
files in 2k4 using save as. Although I expect that any ongoing
project I would want to move to v2010 anyway, I'd still like access
to the v2004 during the transition. Looking in my preferences folder
I see the preferences file is named Finale 2004 Preferences so I
assume that the two versions will keep separate preferences.

Anything else I'm not thinking of?

Question two: My current computer is nearing the end of its
lifespan. It's a PowerBook G4 that I bought in 2003, running Mac OS X.
4.11. Since I'd rather make a smooth transition while it's still
functional, rather than impromptu when it conks out, it has been my
plan to buy a new computer some time this summer. I'm wondering if it
would make sense to accelerate that plan, get the new computer now,
and load the new Finale directly onto it.

My tentative conclusion is that I'd rather not, since I've got plenty
on my plate this month and I don't need the added headache of setting
up a new computer with whatever unexpected glitches and required
reinstallations come with it, at the same time I'm relearning Finale
with a deadline coming up. Also, I'm not sure my budget is quite
ready for it yet.

But if there's some good reason why it would be advantageous to skip
ahead now, I'd like to hear it. The specs for Finale v2010 say that
G4 and OS 10.4 are sufficient. Can anyone confirm that from
experience? I don't intend to run any of the Garritan stuff. (Indeed,
I expect I won't even load it until I move to the new computer.)

I haven't actually decided yet what new computer I'd get, but since
I've been pretty satisfied with my old 15 PowerBook, my default
assumption is that I'd get the closest equivalent, which I gather is
the low-end 15 MacBook Pro.

I realize I haven't posed much in the way of specific questions here,
but if anyone knowledgeable out there has thoughts on my general
situation, I would welcome them.

thanks

You MIGHT have to re-register Finale assuming you use the SIMPLE Apple

have to transfer over all your stuff. Though, Finale 2004 might not
care.

That should work with a G4 if you don't run Garritan. However, you

I run 2010 on an iBook G4 with 10.4, and it is a little logey. Okay,
it's very logey. Turn off all those cute automatic update thingies

when I am assigning articulations quickly I get ahead of what the
machine can keep up with and the whole thing crashes. But it will work.

I don't know if you need the MacBook Pro. I just got a regular
MacBook for my wife, and it is a marvel! The main thing she is
missing is FireWire, but she doesn't have any Firewire devices (only

Okay, I mean only _I_ have Firewire devices, not that I am a Firewire

I haven't actually decided yet what new computer I'd get, but since
I've been pretty satisfied with my old 15 PowerBook, my default
assumption is that I'd get the closest equivalent, which I gather
is the low-end 15 MacBook Pro.

Re: [Finale] TAN: upgrade advice wanted

2010-03-28 Thread Chuck Israels
If, indeed, Apple is coming out with new models momentarily then, of course,
it's a good idea to wait a little. The grapevine is usually accurate about
those things, and there are places people know to look for this kind of
information. (I'm not one of them, but I bet Darcy is.) If money is an issue,
existing Macbook models will drop lightly in price, as soon as new models
arrive.

My wife has a recent Macbook that is attached to a $300 28 Vizio monitor, and
it is fast and reliable. I haven't used Finale on that setup, but there is a
remarkable improvement in speed on my 27 iMac i5 (not the very fastest
version) even over the G5 Power PC (non-Intel) Mac Pro. I expect that all
Intel Macbooks would exhibit this speed improvement.

need to be on watch for as I upgrade? I gather from recent discussions on

Although I expect that any ongoing project I would want to move to v2010

Question two: My current computer is nearing the end of its lifespan. It's

impromptu when it conks out, it has been my plan to buy a new computer some
time this summer. I'm wondering if it would make sense to accelerate that
plan, get the new computer now, and load the new Finale directly onto it.

My tentative conclusion is that I'd rather not, since I've got plenty on my
plate this month and I don't need the added headache of setting up a new
computer with whatever unexpected glitches and required reinstallations come
with it, at the same time I'm relearning Finale with a deadline coming up.
Also, I'm not sure my budget is quite ready for it yet.

But if there's some good reason why it would be advantageous to skip ahead
now, I'd like to hear it. The specs for Finale v2010 say that G4 and OS 10.4
are sufficient. Can anyone confirm that from experience? I don't intend to
run any of the Garritan stuff. (Indeed, I expect I won't even load it until

[Finale] Re: Unicode support in Finale--impending upgrade of ChordSymbol font

2009-07-27 Thread JClevESM
Greetings, list. I've been out of the Finale world for awhile, but now that
I'm upgrading my ChordSymbol font, I'm wondering what the status of
Unicode support is. I see that it is not supported in Finale 2010. Will it be
added for Finale 2011?

If a support rep or product manager wishes to reply privately, I'd
appreciate that. Or I may get in touch directly soon, also about the
possibility
of bundling my Unicode font with Finale once you finally make that leap. I
hope to make ChordSymbol 2 the gold standard among music-analysis and
lead-sheet fonts. Music theorists have always sworn by ChordSymbol 1, and I'm
hoping that commercial music arrangers will equally value the new font, with
its full set of commercial chord symbols--not handwritten, as in the
existing Finale fonts, but properly set in Times New Roman.

In the meantime, I will create three separate TrueType fonts that Finale
users may find useful:

- RomanNumerals, for roman-numeral analysis;
- BassFigures, for figured bass (featuring slashed figures in any conce
ivable combination and all needed accessories such as the little plusses); and
- JazzSymbol, for pop/rock/jazz/theater music.

I expect to roll out this font package for Windows and Mac within about two
weeks, as the main Unicode font, which features over 1000 special symbols,
is finished, and it will not take long to derive the subset fonts
therefrom. Please feel free to direct inquiries to my personal email
address--most
sales will be done by email (paying using PayPal) until we can get our web
site, _www.virtualconservatory.com_ (http://www.virtualconservatory.com) ,
updated with the needed functionality.

Thanks and cheers, jrc

Hi John,

1) Nobody from MakeMusic monitors this list. You will have to send
your message to them directly.

2) Speaking on behalf of commercial music arrangers, I hope you
won't be offended if I offer you some unsolicited advice: if your
chord symbol fonts are set in a serif font like Times New Roman, then
I'm not interested. If you can come up with a sans-serif chord font
that is as elegant and functional as Bill Duncan's Chord Suffix font
-- example here: http://tinyurl.com/ntvzvy -- then you'll attract
more interest from that world (especially as Bill's font is no longer
available).

Re: [Finale] file upgrade experience

2009-05-12 Thread Fiskum, Steve
Hello Randolph,

I'm still interested and curious. What makes going to 2002 better than going
directly to 2008? I'm not looking for a huge list just a few things. I'm
just wondering if I should fire up those old computers because there is
something that I'm not seeing in the upgrade process that 2002 does better
than 2008. In my experience, 2008 was the only upgrade that held 3.5.2 music
spacing better than any other upgrade thus making the proofing and cleanup
time of these old files very short. The difference between 2.63 and 3.52 are
huge especially when you talk about slurs. Is this where 2002 shines over
2008?

One of the difficult issues in upgrading both 2.63 and 3.52 files are the
text blocks. The words do not always show up but the handles are there. The
best method is to remove the text from the box (cut) and paste in new.
Performing a Command-M on the boxes will bring them back but they don't
attach to the handle the same as if you had place a brand new text block so
alignment using numbers can be a problem especially if you have a mix of old
and new text blocks.

Thanks for continuing to comment on this issue.

Re: [Finale] file upgrade experience

2009-05-11 Thread Randolph Peters
The biggest problem in upgrading old files to Finale 2009 is the
scattering of expressions. In the files I was working with, most of my
dynamics showed up far to the right of the page. A dynamic attached to
beat 2 in the original might show up as belonging to beat 10 in the
upgraded file. And this is in a 4/4 measure!

The old files used a lot of what used to be called score expressions
(as opposed to note expressions) and most of these were made to show
up only on one staff. That used to be the best way to incorporate
hairpins and dynamics on a held note.

These v2.63 files were for large orchestra and used a variety of fonts
that are now outdated. (Newport, Petrucci, and so on.)

I am in basic agreement with Eric and I am hopefully optimistic that
the maintenance update (on which MM is working) should make some
things work more smoothly. Whether or no the linked parts will save

occurs after the parts have been created.

Re: [Finale] Fwd: Finale 2026 Upgrade Offer - We've fixed everything!

That was a little overboard. It's almost as bad as Microsoft doing those
commercials about security...Sure, there are some issues with
Finale, but it's still my notation program of choice.

changing

finale06_banner_b.gifThis upgrade doesn't include any bells and
whistles intended to distract you from the insufficiencies of the
programme, in fact there are no new features (sic) in this version.
Instead, the development team have finally realised that the way to
keeping long-term users of Finale - including those who are
responsible for the purchasing of software for university computer
labs - satisfied and discouraged from jumping ship to Sibelius, is to
actually listen to their concerns. Install the new upgrade, open the
application, and be amazed by the fact that all long-standing as well
as recent concerns have been finally addressed.

 BWAHH!

I spit tea all over my computer again! Shame on you!

What is truly priceless is that the upgrade link leads to a Russian
site called Elvis Lives. NIce that all the mythical ideas live in the
 same place...

This is great. You are da man.

This is already partly implemented now. When I setup GPO and adjust the
length parameter in the AU, the next time (ie next rehearsal) it has
forgotten everything. Just like rehearsing an amateur orchestra...The
next time I will go around my GPO players and hand out pencils.

is Sibelius cheaper?

Not as far as upgrades go, although if you pro-rate the cost of the
Sibelius upgrade to an annual basis, it does end up being much cheaper
on an annual basis.

Sibelius only upgrades when they have significant improvements to offer,
not on a forced-annual-upgrade schedule, so it may be a year and a half
or two years between upgrades for Sibelius.

[Finale] Re: Upgrade question follow-up

2005-11-17 Thread williamspencer

Wade, thanks for the link, which I missed. It answered my questions.

So, aside from eBay any suggestions on where I might track down a newer-but-not-current version? I've got FinMac2Kc.

As always my thanks in advance.

What exactly is your reason for not wanting 2k6?
