Hi, If you have the floor entirely cleared, try this. Go up the stairs, then back down, This will wipe all the dead bodies and anything off the floor. This will speed up the save and load times. But really, a minute is not that long. Kick back, take a deep breath, take a drink, and resume game play when it loads. unfortunately, since the game has so much to save at this time, nothing short of going up the stairs, and coming back down will help. Oh yeah, one other thing. When, or if you go up the stairs, drop anything you don't want or need. This too will help with saving and loading the game. HTH. Second, is Packman Talks also by PCS Games. It is largely based on the old Packman games by Atari, but in an all new audio FPS format for the blind. Third, there is Shades of Doom by GMA Games. As you probably know it is an audio based FPS game loosely based on the game Doom. Although, in many ways it is a completely different game from Doom. Finally, there is Monkey Business by Draconis Entertainment. This is a game where you are sent out to recover a professor's test monkey's and find all the parts to the teleporter. Along the way you get to visit various locations such as the jungle, climb a wall of vines, explore an ancient Aztec temple, have a shootout in the wild west, and much more. It's a pretty cool game all things considered. Also, while I'm thinking of it, there is a game called Teraformer's. I haveknow idea where it can be found, and don't know much about it personally. However, it also belongs in this catagory of games. Hi Michael, the games I listed are real time first person action games. As far as real time RPG games like Entombed it is the only one currently out there for us. There are some text based RPG games such as Ancient Domains of Mystery, Nethack, and Angband, but those weren't designed specifically for the blind so have some accessibility issues. Although, they are playable. There are also a few web based RPG games such as Sryth and Kingdom of loathing to. I guess what we really need is something more specific than just RPG games. Are we talking multiuser, web based, text based, audio based, real time, turn based, etc. RPG games are also devided by roguelike and gamebook style adventures. There is a lot of different tcatagories games can be classified by as you can see. Cheers! Hi, No, it wouldn't. Using the mainstream system of classifying games Tank Commander would likely be classified as a real time simulation just like Lone Wolf is. The main difference here being the game is the simulation of driving a tank in combat as apposed to controlling a single soldier, super hero, etc from a complete first person perspective. Hi Dark, I forgot about DynaMan myself, but based on the player point of view it could probably be classified under the FPS style. Although, I believe James North classified it as classic arcade. In any case you are right. there are quite a few FPS games now on the market for the audio games community. More than side-scrollers to my count, and neither type have been really pushed to their full potential. So far as I know Mysteries of the Ancients is the only accessible side-scroller to fully explore up/down movement as well as left/right movement if we exclude Montezuma's Revenge which was forcably taken off the market by a few greedy scum bags. Super Liam and Q9 are great games, but the action all seams to use a strict liniar movement system from left to right with a few jumps tossed in for good measure. Mysteries of the Ancients isn't completely liniar requiring to use staircases, ropes, and sometimes rooms are to the left and some are to the right. With FPS we have games like Shades of Doom which does a fantastic job of bringing early FPS titles like Doom to the audio games community. However, it fails to take advantage of the newer fully 3d FPS type games that have areas to explore above and below your current location as well as rooms on the same level of game play. For example, from the very beginning the Jedi Knight games had some degree of 3d movement. You could force jump up to a catwalk, bridge, whatever an dfind a couple of health packs or a secret weapon there. We currently don't have anything like this for the audio games market yet. Hi Michael, That's not what I said. I said Entombed is a Roguelike RPG. Roguelike RPG games are games where you wander dungeons, caves, or some other underground place battling monsters in a more or less random fassion, and is not heavily story driven. Gamebook RPG games are more like a paper and pen style RPG game. You have a specific story, a specific quest, and you and your party undertake that specific adventure. As you play the story unfolds and you may have to do specific things to complete the story. Simply put Gamebook adventures are heavily story driven where Roguelike games are not. Does that make sense? As far as Sarah goes it is a first person adventure. All I can say is try and see if you like it. You will understand what I mean better if you play the demos for some of these games. Hi all, I'm not sure if this is off topic, but I would like to discuss it here. It was free time at school probably 2 or 3 minute's I can't remember, but I was playing a bit of Tarzan Junior. Then, jump over. walk 6 steps, then you'll reach a lever. press enter on that, then walk 8 steps. Then, jump over that pit. Then, pull the other lever. Then, grab the lute over there. Actually, a torch. When you here the statue, then walk 7 steps to the right. Then, jump over that one and walk 14 steps to the right. Hi, This is because ACE Fire uses a direct peer to peer connection. I forget what port ACE Fire uses, but it requires you to forward a port on your router. Monopoly uses a server in which all users connect to, and therefore you don't have to forward any ports. This isn't a problem in ACE Fire. Some multiplayer games are built this way. I am not sure if a UPnP DLL exists for VB6, but I know it exists for .NET. (I started to write a program using it.) It allows a developer to automatically forward the port for the users, as long as they haven't disabled it in there router for security reasons. Anyway, as long as you know what port to forward, port forwarding isn't too difficult. Yeah, if your pressing the space bar hard, it may effect the performance of the spacebar and other controls; you have 2 choices here; either don't play the games at school since they probably own the computer, and you won't have that problem; or try not to tap the spacebar so hard as if to make a annoying noise, which the teacher will hear and be able to discipline you.. I would like to think that each of us would like to be a role model whether we intend to be or not, and we should be the role model we wish to be. Can we be a role model by the games we play? We all grow up trying to follow in the footsteps of someone we greatly admire, and if that person is a dirtbag we might think that is cool and emulate his/her attitudes. Here is a case in point. When I was growing up I greatly admired Princess Diana, because behind all the fame, being a royal princess, and all that you can tell she was a real human being. Not some stuck up rich snob. She dedicated a lot of time and energy into humanitarian efforts, and visited people far below her station. The fact that millions of people world wide came to her funeral is a testament of how greatly admired the woman was, and how deeply she was able to touch people emotionally. That is in my opinion a great example of a roll model. She wasn't perfect, but she did manage to leave behind a legacy that we should all treat others with respect, with love, and compassion no matter how rich or poor they may be. At least that's what I got out of her life's legacy. Now, compare her with someone today like Britney Spears. Britney Spears is definitely not someone I'd want my kids to admire and use as a roll model. She has been in and out of drug rehab, had a couple quicky mariages and devorces, threw beer bottles at the cops in a drunken rage when they tried to take her kids to see their father, dresses up like a tramp, and so on. Not the kind of behavior we want our children to grow up emulating that's for sure. Bottom line, I think that these kids probably don't have the best roll models and parental guidence in their lives. Someone to teach them the value of compassion, understanding, and to treat others with respect. In other words they haven't been taught the golden rule to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. We would be overrun with them, but there would be, every so often, a sensible comment from one of them, and you get penalized if that person gets bashed by accident. From the beginning, I thought we should write s p o i l e r s p a c e followed by our hint or solution to someone who gets stuck in games. We do that, or we put some other notification that a spoiler is about to be read by a screen reader so that those who don't want, or don't need, a spoiler right now can quit reading it before the hint is given away. When are you in school since you are on the list all the time? If you are in school, how can you have a personal game on a school computer? Maybe you should think about just doing school work at school and waiting until you get home/out of school for the day to play any games. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the teacher thinking that you are hurting the school equipment. Just my honest opinion, but if you are in school for a certain time period of the day then you should only be concentrating on school stuff and not worry about Tarzan Junior or any other games or even this list until after school. I said Entombed is a Roguelike RPG. Roguelike RPG games are games where you wander dungeons, caves, or some other underground place battling monsters in a more or less random fassion, and is not heavily story driven. Gamebook RPG games are more like a paper and pen style RPG game. You have a specific story, a specific quest, and you and your party undertake that specific adventure. As you play the story unfolds and you may have to do specific things to complete the story. Simply put Gamebook adventures are heavily story driven where Roguelike games are not. Does that make sense? As far as Sarah goes it is a first person adventure. All I can say is try and see if you like it. You will understand what I mean better if you play the demos for some of these games. Hi Muhammed, Oh, that is always a possability. If you press the keys too hard and too fast you can certainly break the keyboard if you get too carried away. I should know. I've done it myself a time or two. In fact, I just recently sent my Compaq in for repairs. Not only did the dvd drive die in it, but I damaged the keyboard by getting a little rough on the keyboard. The right shift key wouldn't always work after using it heavily in a couple of games. From now on if I am going to be doing any serious gaming on that computer I'll stick to an external USB keyboard which is easier to replace than the laptop's builtin keyboard. So take it easy on your keyboard by all means. As far as pplaying games at school goes remember you ar using their equipment on school time. A teacher has the right to tell you to stop playing the game. Especially, if you might do damage to the tax payers property. We all need to be respectful of the equipment and property provided for your educational mneeds, and it wasn't provided to play games during school time. Cheers! I don't know any proper techniques, I just play and people tell me it's good. So I'm not sure. But if people are interested, I can share some of the ones I have in mind to do. Requests are welcome too... and if anyone else who is a guitarist wants to ad their own twist, feel free to let me know either on or offlist an we can send files back and forth and mix the mtogether, so we have more than one guitar going at once. lol. well the net can get adicting. this shows us all that juggling our lives and the net is a challenge. Ok so i don't play online games I don't even play ce anymore or muds. But i can get lost in youtube and other things. I actually have a life, its a cruddy depressing existance but I have one. This life requires that I play my piano at least 3 times a week to get me cash, walk about the same amount do my excercycle bike about the same as the rest, as well as family things. Would I like to escape to the net? heck yes, a normal life on a starship in a future universe would rock even if I wasted away in this place. However so I can see both sides. We all grow up trying to follow in the footsteps of someone we greatly admire, and if that person is a dirtbag we might think that is cool and emulate his/her attitudes. Here is a case in point. When I was growing up I greatly admired Princess Diana, because behind all the fame, being a royal princess, and all that you can tell she was a real human being. Not some stuck up rich snob. The fact that millions of people world wide came to her funeral is a testament of how greatly admired the woman was, and how deeply she was able to touch people emotionally. She wasn't perfect, but she did manage to leave behind a legacy that we should all treat others with respect, with love, and compassion no matter how rich or poor they may be. At least that's what I got out of her life's legacy. Now, compare her with someone today like Britney Spears. Britney Spears is definitely not someone I'd want my kids to admire and use as a roll model. She has been in and out of drug rehab, had a couple quicky mariages and devorces, threw beer bottles at the cops in a drunken rage when they tried to take her kids to see their father, dresses up like a tramp, and so on. Not the kind of behavior we want our children to grow up emulating that's for sure. Bottom line, I think that these kids probably don't have the best roll models and parental guidence in their lives. Someone to teach them the value of compassion, understanding, and to treat others with respect. In other words they haven't been taught the golden rule to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. On the entombed list where spoilers are actually pretty important (their in the list guidelines), it's just specified that one is written at the top of the message or in the subject, what you right is up to you so long as it's words to the effect of This message contains spoilers read at own risk As you say, just so that it's obviously there and someone can stop reading as needed. It doesn't have to be s p o i l e r s p a c e (which imho is a trifle long winded for the purpose), just so long as the word spoilers is involved in some noticeable fashion. Personally, I'm fine about playing audio games in free periods, heck I bet other people in the class were using a ds, psp etc to play games, so why not play audio games. Unless you were really! hammering the keyboard there shouldn't be a problem (keyboards are fairly tough with auto switches i've tended to find), so either you were being very forceful indeed, really hammering the keys to the point of potentially causing damage, or your teacher has their technical information wrong, heck I pressy keys pretty hard when I'm touch typing at speed myself. Never having seen you use a computer though, it's rather hard to say which. Beware the grue!
