Its all about strategy. Ammo dumps can be hugely advantageous, if you use them right. Also, they make it so you can't waste all your ammo early on and you have to plan what you're going to shoot. I'm not sure what to tell you about the mobile artillery; I think it can be destroyed, but even if you pull it off, there's no notification that its actually gone. Its probably just easier to block the missiles and hope for the best. There are two ways of becoming invisible forever. One of them is a cheat, one is more of a bug. If gtc is ever updated, I'd like very much to see more cheat codes added, like endless smoke, and a way to disable the mobile artillary, until you become used to the sector layout. Perhaps in the standard game, you could be given more ammo at the start of the game, or at the beginning of every mission. I like sector 4 for getting ammo from the truck, it seems more true to life somehow. I'd be interested to know what other people think about emprovements to gtc? It's a great game as it is, but I feel it would be fairer to impliment more features for fairer game play. Hi, something which might help you get started with gtc, is the audio review by Kelly Sapergia, which you can find on his website, or under the link for gma tank commander on audiogames.net. The review is for the old version 1.0, but the basics are still the same. :)and Kelly does a great job of explaining things such as scanning and navigation. The reason I ask this is I have been ordering products from GMA for the last 14 years or so and never had a problem with their ordering system. Sometimes it took up to a week to get a key but never a year. David has usually been prompt about delivering keys and I got my key on an average of three days excluding holidays. Hi Leo, In your order for Tank Commander, did you include the user code? David can't generate a key without one. This is the 4 digit number spoken at the beginning of the game. You can also use the built in key replacement function to copy and paste your information to your clip board then paste it into a message to GMA sales. You should also include your father's name and the that you used his card to order the game. Right now, David has to manually generate a key for the game so that does mean that it mite take a few days or longer if he is on vacation. Hi Steven, No, GMA does not have an automatic key replacement or order system. What happens when you order a game is it sends a message to GMA Sales and it gets processed usually within two or three days. Sometimes slightly longer if David Greenwood is busy. So if you order Tank Commander or any game from GMA don't expect a product key to just show up in your inbox 10 minutes later, because GMA does not have an automatic key replacement and licensing system. Hi Leo, In regards to the license key understand it sometimes takes two or three days to get a key for a game you order from GMA. If you haven't received one within a week you should by all means e-mail GMA's sales address. I have ordered a number of games from them and have never had a problem with their service. So it could simply be David is unusually busy or some other logical explanation for the delay. As far as your spelling, grammar, etc. Its okay. Hi Steven, I am not sure if David is on this list so I will try to answer your questions. Right now orders for GMA games require David to do them manually. The order needs to include credit card information and your 4 digit user code. If your brother didn't include this information the order can't get finished. I'm thinking since he just released a new version of TOC that he is very busy right now. Also sometimes messages get dumped into junk folders or deleted accidentally. I suggest he re-send the information. The new ordering system is supposed to automatically generate registration keys. But it isn't ready right now. Hi Chris, When you punch those cheat codes into the game it doesn't tell you they are activated. They simply work at the proper time. For example, if you use the endless ammo cheat, abcea, the game won't tell you that it is activated. However, if you run out of missiles, shells, etc even if it says your ammo is 0 it will still continue firing missiles, shells, etc. IE endlesss ammo. Cheers! They do defend themselves, they're just horrible at it. They're equal to one enemy tank each. Of course, one of them has a decent hance of hitting another; two are in a straight line. Don't attack the ammo dump at all. If there are surviving troops in the woods, they will blow it up. It's not the artilery, it's the infantry. It's pretty easy to get into the first set of woods, just run through the troops in there, face east and take out the troops in the other forest. Then leave the woods and head up the bridge. I personally did it by basically getting all my friendly tanks to stay still in the forest, slaughtering as much of the opposition as possible then pegging it north as quickly as possible and even so the artiliary blew a couple of those tanks in the process. Your friendly tanks never really seemed that clever at taking out oncoming shots or avoiding enemy fireto me, and I hope if David ever enhances the game he'll improve them a bit, indeed I found them far more of a hindrance than a help, :D. Hi Charles, Definitely. I would love to kill that blasted mobile artillery but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that in the current version. The best a person can do with sector 5 is mine the road to the bridges to destroy or slow down those enemy tanks that hit you at the end, and then machine gun all the troops hiding out in the woods. Once done it is basically a game of keeping the artillery etc from killing your friendly tanks. Cheers! aparently if you are lucky you can make it move by firing your guns at it and or shells, but not dewstroy it. I think it should be destroyable maybe as a boss battle may be a boss tank. in fact that is a good idea maybe if you ever have a sequal for gtc, you get on the transport, but on your way back boom your killed well everyone else bar you is and that could be one of the first enemies and you could actually destroy it. Hi Lori, Well, I usually strafe the snipers with the machine gun. I just go in there and hold down the space bar as I turn. That will kill several of the troops at one go. I've also just blanketed the woods with shell attacks if I have the ammo which has a better than average chance of killing most of the creeps in the woods before I get that far. :D Cheers! Hi Thomas, thanks for the help, could you tell me how you reach the bridge? I try facing east and taking out those snipers in the woods, but there's the problem of the artilary shooting the amo dump when I'm close to it. The best part of that secter is when you're over the bridge, you head north then when you see the cliffs a head and hear tanks coming at you, turn on your smoke, turn around and head back towards the bridge,dropping off a couple of mines as you leave. About the only thing I can suggest is to take up position on one of the bridges and when the mobile artillery fires on you try and use your interceptors to shoot down the incoming shells. Hi, Yes and no. As you already know the Shades of Doom and Tank Commander files are encrypted. It is possible to undo the encryption, but by doing so you will break the GMA license agreement. So the answer is there isn't any legal way to get the GMA sounds. If you want them you have to reverse the encryption on them. Cheers! Thought I'd update this thread just in case there was anyone else on list curious to find a resolution. I eventually got a reply back from David at GMA. you can use both cheats at any time. But you shouldn't need them c l u e there are such things as long shots. your shells have a range of 1000 metres. if a target is straight on even when you are just out of range you can if lucky destroy it. It requires a bit of practice. Some things such as the trucks and train in later levels depending on skill level will move with speed. I don't think you can use those without first unlocking or purchasing the codes yourself. That seems to be a safeguard in a lot of audio games. Hi Andy, First you need to select a target with the n key to set your target on the tank you want to target. Second, if you are using shells you need to raise or lower the barrel of your gun to do a long or short shot. Depending on the range to enemy target. Finally, you need to line up the target and blow it away. I really suggest you read the manual as it explains this a little better than I can, and I can say it sounds like a lot at first, but after a few games it will all seam natural to you. For example, as soon as the game starts I set the barrel range to 800 meters. That generally gives me certain tactical range to raise or lower it quickly to strike a distant tank or lower it a little to hit one a little closer in my kill zone. Once enemy tanks begin firing you will want to be able to get the range set pdq, and then line it up for a shot. One final hint is some weapons are better than others in combat situations. If you are being attacked by foot soldiers the machine gun is the weapon to use to strafe their ranks. If you are being assaulted by an enemy chopper blow it away with a missile. For enemy tanks standard and armour pearsing shells work fine most of the time. For bunkers, the train, etc the long range cruise missiles make great tactical weapons of war. Ah yes, that is where I am stuck at the moment. I have beaten the game once or twice before, but at least in the saved game scenario I am working with right now, I am able to defeat the first couple waves of enemy tanks but my friendly forces keep getting slaughtered and I cannot figure out where the fire is coming from or how to protect them because they seem to be doing a very lousy job of protecting themselves. Arg! If Thomas or anyone else has ideas I'd love to hear them. Hi, Yeah,the tanks that come down the road aren't so hard to beat. I usually set mines to kill the first wave and the second waves usually gets missiled and shelled. Generally, slottered.
