Re: [Audyssey] Troopanum 2 playthrough

2010-09-29 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Charles,

I also always unload my screen reader while playing games. The only exception
is when I am creating a game in the VB6 ID. But on my game development
computer I have a Triple Talk external hardware synthesizer which takes allot
less system resources than a software synthesizer. But you know I write a line
or two of code and test play the game to make sure that the new code works
properly all within the VB6 ID.

thats what I like with hal.
these days for example I use hal for the system but nvda for the web
and I don't have to make hal go away to do it.

I only use jaws for skype and a few other things.

While there probably is an extra count on my pc's resources by
leaving Hal running in the background, albeit without actually
doing anything, I've never actually noticed any appreciable
difference, in fact as well as games I regularly switch at least
hal's voice off for watching dvd's or listening to music so I'm not
interupted with screen reader chatter.

My practice is to unload my screen reader when playing any game that does
not use it. I figure, why slow the game down by needlessly using resources
for something that is currently dormant?

Hi Hayden,
Lol! Well, you know how it goes. You win some and you lose some. I
guess Troopenum just isn't my thing.
I've always maintained I enjoy action adventures more than straight
shoot-m-up arcade games so that might explain it. I get more involved
in a game with a storyline, a lead character, etc. In other words a
game like MOTA. I'm more likely to play a game like MOTA several times
until I get good at it, but a game like Troopenum I'll get board with
after the first couple times through it. I'll end up putting it down
for several months before playing it again.

Imho with the life requirement, bsc really should've made the bombs count as

aships ships landed rather than being instant kills, sinse even if you get
to lord vector without loosing a life that's only 3 bomb hits, which with
the length of the fight seems waay too unfair.

Then again, troop 2 was the first game to try a boss in an audio space
invaders fest, alien outback, dark destroy and judgement day all tried as

I agree. In fact I own it. Actually I own most of the Metroid games except
Prime III (I don't have a Wii yet although my fiance and I plan on getting
one at some point), and I also don't own Prime: Hunters since I don't have a
DS.

Actually 175 missiles, though I agree, the queen is an awsome boss battle.

I actually think metroid ii is a rather under appreciated game sinse so
much of the physics, and at least half of the weapons which made super
metroid a hit were thought of there.

nothing more depressing than getting to the final boss only to have him
waste you with a single attack which you more than likely couldn't even
hear coming at you and therefore couldn't avoid. I'll say this much
though, I did like how the damage sound increased in pitch each time you
landed a successful hit. So you could judge how close you were to victory.
Even a few mainstream games did something like that. Metroid II: Return of
Samus actually did something like that during the final boss battle. Each
time you successfully scored a hit on the Metroid Queen she would scream
in pain. After a certain number of hits (It took pretty close to a hundred
missiles to kill her as I recall as opposed to the riskier method of
dropping fifteen bombs in her stomach), you would notice her screams
increased in pitch. Granted they were just 8-bit Game Boy screams but it
was still pretty cool. And the music in that fight was some of the
coolest, but then again the Metroid series has always been known for its

Re: [Audyssey] Troopanum 2 playthrough

2010-09-27 Thread dark
Imho with the life requirement, bsc really should've made the bombs count as
aships ships landed rather than being instant kills, sinse even if you get
to lord vector without loosing a life that's only 3 bomb hits, which with
the length of the fight seems waay too unfair.

Then again, troop 2 was the first game to try a boss in an audio space
invaders fest, alien outback, dark destroy and judgement day all tried as
well, and the fight against Ather is just cool!

Look at Judgement Day. It's the same concept... but the sounds of the bomb
are different enough from the sounds of the ship that you can actually hear
it clearly. And... you can shot the bombs in JD, too.

2010-09-26 Thread clement chou
Not too complicated... I'd even say it was easier than JFW. But that's not
the point of this list... debating screenreader sleep modes. lol.

So, for al who are interested, I'm thinking of doing a playthrough... of SF,
like I said. I haven't decided what it's goingto be, a playthrough in arcade
mode, or an online set of matches with someone. Does anyone care about
either or? And if yohandy is listening, come online and let's have a set
when we can... it's been a while. lol.

Hi Lori,
Actually Peter was running Window-Eyes 7.2 not Jaws. If it were Jaws
running the game would lock up because Jaws has a problem with sharing
the keyboard with DirectInput.

Hi, Peter.
Smile. Don't feel so bad. Usually I do a lot worse with Troopenum.
I've never actually completed Troopenum 2. I usually end up destroyed
before I reach level 16. So you did quite good compared to my normal
average.

Smile.

and we 7.2 in the background and studio recorder 3.7, with a ds50 hooked up
for voice and an audio repeater to pipe that into stereo mix for both game
audio and my voice, so, to get less geeky, it's a simple setup and it works.

After I play the game, I also do a speed round, which kind of fails.

Re: [Audyssey] Troopanum 2 playthrough

2010-09-24 Thread shaun everiss
I have done a troop go round you never win the speed round I can do
it to quite a fast speed, but eventually you die.
I won't put up my troop playthrough as there are already to many on
the net as it is.

anyway my stratogy is a bit boring.
it involves me getting the right item and then getting under a lifter
and then shooting it and basically cheating loads.
if not I go through the issue of trying to shoot down things and
really if you get it going there is no real challenge except with the
gorbian and I have never got round that that well with out a lot of
casualties and big swearing shoutings around the room I have never
really bothered with arcade that much.

I'd probably suck compared to most people I haven't even hit insane.
The only reason I only hit sod level3 is because there are more monsters.
level4 has them running away and such though just for fun I may set a
challenge for myself where I use my fists in easy level.

After I play the game, I also do a speed round, which kind of fails.

No, It doesn't, unless you put your jaws to sleep, or unlode it. I always
like it asleep. Also, Peter, good recording. Hey, another thing. Could any
of you please do a recording of science invasion? I jump over the boss at
level 2, well I shoot her then jump right or left, depending, and Hayden
says that you don't need to jump. Please, could someone agree with me or do
a recording? I find it more helpful to shoot her, and jump over her.

Hi Lori,
Actually Peter was running Window-Eyes 7.2 not Jaws.

So you did quite good compared to my normal
average.

Re: [Audyssey] Troopanum 2 playthrough

2010-09-24 Thread peter Mahach

HI
ON YOUR DS, GO TO SETTINGS, THEN FIND THE USB SETTING, AND CHANGE IT TO
AUDIO CLASS. WHEN YOU HOOK IT UP IT WILL SHOW UP AS BOTH A RECORDING DEVICE
"microphone control" and as a speaker. like a USB mic. there is an app
called virtual audio cable that comes with an audio repeater. when you start
that, chose the ds50 mic as the input and your main card as output, press
space on start. you will hear your self through your headphones, now just
record through your stereo mix and it should work.
