Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc games.
All of those games could easily be ported to powerbasic, even the dos games, which would make them runable on windows, with very little work. I've ported all kinds of quick basic, gw basic, and others to powerbasic, and it's trivially easy. If someone could get ahold of Jim's source, I'd be more than happy to do the conversions, just so all Jim's hard work doesn't have to go by the wayside. If those were written with vb6, it may be possible to build them with monobasic and run them in the monobasic environment on all platforms that will run monobasic. Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc games
Hi Jewel. I believe I wrote to you off list with my suggestions and a link to download my uploaded Interpreters collection. For reference though, I attach my reply to your message below: Hi Jewel. OK, please download the interpreters by clicking on the following link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7o1s3fll841k12o/interpreters.zip Once you’ve extracted the same, you will have everything you need to start playing and enjoying these classics. Colossal Cave was the defining game that put Adventuring of this kind on the map and in to the public domain, however Infocom games are far richer in atmosphere and have much deeper plot development along with the complexity required to challenge even the most ardent puzzle solver. If you are using Windows, you have two choices. Filfre which is the interpreter I recommend presently due to its working on my Windows 7 64-bit installation with JAWS 13, or WinFrotz which has the community divided, some saying it works well and others not at all. WinFrotz is the better interpreter of the two for a couple of reasons; Firstly it supports all the ZCode versions and secondly it has more viewing customisation options including an ability to use a text to speech SAPI engine to output text. Filfre on the other hand works exceedingly well with JAWS and is preferred if you intend on using the JAWS cursor to review the outputted text. The one issue with Filfre I have reported to the author concerns game text disappearing should the game abruptly end. To give a couple of examples, in the game Suspended when you die, the game quits abruptly without giving you the option to save, restore etc. As soon as the game ends, the last displayed text disappears so you never know what happened to cause the game to end. This should be fixed in a future update and I will of course let you all know when that becomes available as soon as I know. All the best and please, don't hesitate to get back in touch should you need further help. All the best and happy adventuring, Ibrahim. -Original Message- From: Jewel Sent: Monday, November 26, 2012 9:01 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc games Ibrahim! Hi Jewel, In order to play the ZCode games by Infocom etc you will need a Windows interpreter like Winfrotz which is a separate download to play them. Cheers! On 11/26/12, Jewel wrote: > Ibrahim! All the best and send the link to the archive as soon as you have it uploaded. -Original Message- From: Jacob Kruger Sent: Monday, November 26, 2012 1:34 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc games Thanks, re: infocom, but, no worries - while don't play those types of games too often, do have winfrotz, filfor etc. here, and also have like a DHTML instance of an IF handling app, so getting them to work isn't an issue - just don't get around to it often enough... Hi Jewel, You should not need to attach Microsoft Anna to my games. My games by default are set to use your computer's default sapi5 voice. So as long as Anna is working and is set as your computer's default voice, it should be working. You know unless you might have copied the games from your old computer or something like that. Hi Jim, Windows XP does not have User Account Control. UAC was added in Windows Vista and is available in Windows 7 and Windows 8 as well. Re: [Audyssey] kitchensinc games...problem
Hi Johnny, A new sapi5? Not sure what that means, but may I ask, do the sapi5 voices work like in the control panel and or with any other applications? They are not the real speak voices that come with JFW right? Below are all of the fixes that I know of for the sapi5 speech. The first thing that I would try would be the DelUserLex.exe file that you can find on my free windows sapi5 text to speech games page, as well as on the GW Micro and Freedom Scientific sites. It is a strange file in that it doesn't say or seem to do anything, but it did fix my sapi5 voices. Here is another fix that I was told about. Go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech Then, press enter on Sapisvr.exe. It won't say anything, but it should correct the control panel entries for Sapi. Another thing that you can do is to use the Windows XP restore feature to restore your computer back to a date when the voices were working. And then there is to use your Windows XP cd to repair the entire sapi5 text to speech engine. you can download (SpeechSDK51MSM.exe). which contains all of the Microsoft Sapi voices available for Windows XP from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5e86ec97-40a7-453f-b0ee-6583171b4530&displaylang=en HTH BFN Jim Kitchen's Inc, for games that are up to 110 percent funner to play. j...@kitchensinc.net http://www.kitchensinc.net (440) 286-6920 Chardon Ohio USA --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] kitchensinc games - installation question
The reason the install went to the correct directory is the program was coded for that one and windows was just following rules for 32bit programs. The extra files are done through a zip file install that has a target of c:\program files. If you add the x86 to the path it has you will have the correct install path. Re: [Audyssey] kitchensinc games - installation question
Hi Jim, FYI. Just a quick clarification here. The reason Windows 7 and some versions of Vista have two different Program Files directories is for backwards compatibility with older 32-bit software. All newer applications---that is all 64-bit applications---are installed to c:\Program Files by default, but older 32-bit applications such as your games are installed to c:\Program Files (x86) because they were compiled for the older x86 processors and not the x64 processors of today. Basically, that second Program Files directory is there for backwards compatibility sake, and isn't specific to Windows 7 either. Every 64-bit version of Windows has this convention. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] kitchensinc games - installation question
Hi Laurel, You have to arrow to the file you want to run and press the context menu key which performs a right click on the file. The context key is the key between the right Windows key and right control key on most laptops and desktops. Once the context menu is up just arrow to run as administrator. Now, keep in mind the installation directory largely depends on if you have a 32-bit version of Windos or a 64-bit version of Windows. If you have a 32-bit version install the files to c:\Program Files\Kitchensinc and if you have a 64-bit computer the files should go in c:\Program Files (x86)\Kitchensinc. Re: [Audyssey] kitchensinc games - installation question
Hi Lenron, Yes, I have been told that Windows 7 presents another little problem with installing my games. The thing is, Windows 7 apparently has two program files areas and my winkit install goes to one and the rest of the games go to the other. Below is a message that I read from a lady that explains it and tells how she fixed it. I hope that it helps. Hello all, I just found out something I hope will help you Sherry, ok you no how in windows 7 we have two program file folders? One is just called program files, and the other is called program files x86, well here is what happen to me. I installed the winkit program and it went into just the program files x86 folder. And when I installed the games they went into the folder. Called just program files. So fined out which one is the winkit one and go to which of the program folders the computer put the games in and copy and paste them into the winkit one it works. Like I found out winkit was in the program files x86 so I went to just program files and copied the games from kitchensinc and put them in program files x86 kitchensinc and then I removed the one in program files. Just deleted the folder. Make sure you are in administrator Hope that helps. Susan I hope that helps. Hi Laurel, I hope that with the help from the list, you were able to get some of my games installed. Darn U A C not liking WinZip self extracting zip files. And sorry that the WinKit install did not create a short cut icon on the desk top. So to start the games, it is start key, p for program files and k for kitchensinc. Re: [Audyssey] kitchensinc games - installation question
Hi Laurel. The applications key is usually one next to the right control on most keyboards. it's hugely useful, sinse in windows it gives you a list of stuff you can do with a selected item, like copy it, paste it, unzip it if it's zipped etc, it even works on links in brousers too which is great if you want to copy links somewhere. I'd heartily recommend you make use of the key as it's really handy for general computer use, games or not. Beware the grue! Re: [Audyssey] kitchensinc games - installation question
Problem is that the UAC will still cause issues even if you do that. You still have to either run as administrator, which you can do by right clicking the name of the file you want to run and then hit run as administrator, or turn UAC off. To do this Laurel, you need to be in settings, control panel and users. ok, sense you seem like you know how to do this, then let me ask you this. /smiles/ I click on the game file, then I see the options "run" "save" or "cancel." I click on "run." Then Windows asks me if I want to run this again so I click "run." Then I get to the part where I have to unzip the files, and I hit unzip, and it says I can't do that. I can't get past that point. Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc games was Message to the list.
Hi jim in the game of Spanker how about making the women more dominant and they spank the men for pleasure in the game or you can make the men also spank the women you should have that choice in the game for a man to spank a woman or a woman to spank a man. Plus you can add phrases for example give it to me baby, Your going to be punnished, or come here and serve me now, spank me more, oh yeah baby that feels good, do you want me etc. Make sure the spanking sound has a whipping sound to it so they feel the pain of being spanked and more pleasure. Also add the sexual turn on words if you know what I am talking about that's my suggestions for this game. If this game turns out the way it supposed this would be the first blind man's porno game. I also enjoy this game as well. your friend, Jason - Original Message - From: "Jim Kitchen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Wil James" Sent: Monday, September 24, 2007 6:00 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc games was Message to the list. > Hi Wil, > > You know I was actually thinking about another version of Spanker after > the current game that I am working on. Hi, Well, in hangman last night I made 10 out of 10 as well. So we are now tied. As for Spanker, sheesh, I am not even close to reaching your record. Hi Thomas, Well I got ten out of ten in Hangman using the regular word list. I did however miss one on the adult list so went 9 for 10 on it. BTW If you are still ticked, I've got another challenge for you. 250 swats with an average reaction time of .4064 seconds for a total score of 61520. That is my all time record though. I didn't just do that this morning. BFN Jim Born to spank! Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc games was Message to the list.
Hi, I except that as a challenge. I'll have to get into the adult word list and see how high I score. How many words do I have to do. Is that 10 out of 10? Hi, Well, Spanker is fun. It is based off a Bop It style of play where you use the arrow keys to swing left, right, and center. Girls will say "Hi" and you try to spank their butts asfast as you can by swinging towards the sound of their voice. blind guy wrote: > yes, hangman is fun, snakes and ladders is interesting, only one i > have not done was spanker which sounds interesting but... > --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Hi Thomas, Hmmm, I will have to see if I can get seventy percent on hangman. I normally get 100 percent, but that is only because I most often play with the adult word list and it is much easier because one has a mind set when playing that list.
