Hi Donna, Sound Forge has a few more effects, which you're unlikely to need for spoken word production and in may cases can be compensated for by installing system-wide audio units. Amadeus Pro is a lot cheaper as well. You may possibly be interested in another audiobook I produced, Record Tech

VLC since Yosemite update

As another poster said, you can go into the VoiceOver Utility and turn them off, though the changes you make with the F key shortcuts should stick. I think Apple made certain visuals display by default so sighted people could help new users more easily, and since the blind user would never know
