playing around with idrum
There are a few things i still don't quite catch on this application, but so far i've tried something to synch daw plugin and midi controller and it works pretty good. I've set up garage band to have tw4 tracks, one with the midi output plugin called midio which allows garage band to give midi clock info to external sources, placed idrum on 3 different tracks, beat, bassline and sample group i took from a soul track. It all synchs nicely to the tempo set in garage band, and i can just play around infinitely on patterns and such which save to regions in gb, which i then quantize. My midi controller being an mpd 26, i can set various repeats and swing values directly. Now i'm trying to find a way to map certain sliders of overlay effects to the sliders on my controller for some live recordable effects. Anyone have any idea here? Adapter Question Again For Mac Mini.
Hi folks. I have a portable 7inch digital tv set that receives terrestrial broadcasts. On this receiver all inputs whether sound or video are 3.5mm jacks and it came with a cable which has two mail of these one for sound and the other for video input and on the other end three rca two of them for sound and the third is for video. I wonder is there any HDMI to DVI adapter that I can plug my mac mini to this cable and use it as screen and loudspeaker to the mac mini or at least as screen only? In other words the hdmi end is ok but instead of HDMI to DVI it should have three rca females. Am I dreaming of such a combination? Hi Ezzie! It was possible to have all contacts show up in one list in the 2.8 old Skype! But as for 5.something version, You have 2 tabs next to the source list one Skype and the other Address book! So you have to choose which one you need to use! Chris posted that the options were in either contacts or view in the menu! Hi Chris! This is the way I know! 1. open all bookmarks with option+command+b and you should be put on a search field! 2. use shift+tab to the 1st table [ and if your Mac is set to interact when tabbing] you can up and down through the options and select the one you need! [like menu bar] 3. Then using the tab on it's own you can tab to the next table ]you'll pass through that search field on the way] 4. You'll be in the table of bookmarks in that section just scroll through them and when you get to one you wish to remove! 5. Just press delete and that bookmark will be gone! 6. When your done in there just shift+tab back to the 1st table and select one of the other options that might have more bookmarks you need to delete! And do the same as before! 7. And finally when your happy you've taken out all the bookmarks you need to! Hello Georges -- I've modified the subject line in hopes that it will grab some attention from folks who have done this with something other than a Mac Mini, perhaps with an Apple TV which I believe also has an HDMI output like the current Mini. I suspect there aren't too many folks on this list attempting to attach a display using the old RCA connections, so Google is probably your best friend for advice on this one. Searching for the terms HDMI to RCA or Mini DisplayPort to RCA returns many discussions about this topic. As far as I can tell, it is indeed possible to convert both of your Mini's display output types to RCA but only by using a converter box in conjunction with the proper adapters. Do these apps also allow you to play recordings back afterwords? If they let you record programs, but don't provide a way to select and play them back from the DVR, it's meaningless. Hi, I am trying to use Pages to create an outline for a class I am teaching in the fall. When I start creating the outline the levels of the outline are not spoken by VO. Hi George, What I believe is happening is that you are either accidentally or purposefully pressing the F8 key. Maybe you are intending to go to the VO Utility or maybe simply unintentional. The F7, F8 and F9 keys are Media keys, (Previous, Play/Pause and Next) and if you press the F8 key, iTunes will attempt to open as you are telling your Mac to Play when you press that key. Depending on your Keyboard settings, you may have to press the FN key along with F8 to access the VO Utility. To get rid of the iTunes Library creation dialog, you should be able to either press ESC or cmd-period to Cancel it. If it continues being stuck, you may need to Force Quit iTunes by pressing cmd-option-ESC. That dialog appears if you do not have an iTunes Library location yet or if you press the Option key while iTunes is starting up. Often if you hold down your VO keys while doing VO things, iTunes, and other apps, notice the Option key is down and ask the Library creation question. Later... Hello Ron. You aren't missing anything at all. The outline levels are not spoken in the current version of pages. If you export the document to the Microsoft Word format and open it in Word you can see them. This is one of the major reasons I haven't migrated to pages. I have submitted this issue to the Pages development team and hopefully this will be corrected in IWork 10. I hope you are having a nice forh of July. Hello Ron. Office on the Mac isn't but Microsoft Word is accessible in the Windows environment. I run Windows 7 in VMFusion and haven't switched to pages because outlining doesn't speak yet. When I start creating the outline the levels of the outline are not spoken by VO. Is there a setting I am missing or something I am not doing right? Hi Paul and Ron, One thing I noticed at least with the basic outline template is that different outline levels are automatically given decreasing point sizes. VO-t will tell you the point size of whatever text your VO cursor is on. It is hardly an ideal solution, but it does let you determine level manually I believe. Best, Zack. I R C?
OK, so I'm incredibly new to this whole ordeal, so please have major mercy on me. I use Adium almost religiously. Yeah, it's sad, I know, I have no life. LOL! Anyway, I saw a place to add I R C servers. The problem is a few things... 1. Once I get the server added, usually, I get no IM window or anything with a nickserv bot or the like. I think maybe only one server gave this to me. 2. If a window does! pop up with the chat server, that's all great, but as soonas I hit command+W and close its window, boom! that's it, it's gone. I can't even find a way in my contacts list table to get it back up and use the server again. the only thing I see to do is command+Q to quit Adium altogether, then relaunch it from my dock, which is downright annoying as all Ghetto. I figure, there's got! to be an easier way, something I'm missing here! There's just gotta be! It seems really stupid that AdiumX wouldn't a thought a that. 3. If! I get a nickserv bot to auto message me when I connect, ok, that's all great, but then how do I get a list of channels in that server, and connect to one of 'em? does that depend on the server? finally, and most importantly, aside Adium, is there a better app I could do myself a big favor by using instead of Adium for this? Preferably something that'll read chats automatically with no voing around? Yup? I sure do have Growl installed, so that's no? problem at all. I gotcha covered. Thanks for any help. a macbook pro question?
Hi all, I have borrowed a macbook pro from someone here in Toronto, giving me my first chance to really play with voiceover. I created a copy of the guide int ext for others, so have it as well. My question has to do with the keyboard itself. unless I am missing something, and I did check with the keyboard help feature, the vo keys are only on one side of the keyboard. not two of them as say with the older imac unit I have. is there a slight time delay between keystrokes, or how on earth does one hit vo z for example with the z key on the same side of the keyboard as the vo keys itself? I am a touch typist of long standing, so would alternate for speed if there were two sets of vo keys on the keyboard itself. I believe XChatAqua, and *maybe* LimeChat can both do this with Growl. I know XChatAqua can for sure, I use LimeChat and do find it quite accessible, but I do have to VO to the Chat window, which by the way says Html Content, to read channel text. The VO keys are on the left side of the keyboard, and can be locked down with VO semicolon and unlocked by toggling that keystroke. Hi Karen, Speech rate can be adjusted with vo-cmd-arrow keys, left and right until you reach rate and up and down to adjust. As for drawbacks with quicknav or locking the VO cursor, quicknav generally won't impact anything else, though you'll want to be careful in the event you ever do actually want to move the physical cursor around with arrow keys. Locking the VO keys will impact a lot more, and I don't personally recommend it. I have an MBP and just get used to hitting VO-z with my left hand. Best, Zack. Vo semicolon means that any key on the keyboard is a VO key if it has an assignment beforehand, so be careful to remember that you locked it and unlock it (VO semicolon again) before typing an essay or something... to adjust the speed rate, punctuation, capitalization intonation, etc., hold down VO and the command keys and use left and right arrow to find the setting you with to adjust, and up or down arrow to adjust it. VO Shift C copies the last phrase VO heard to the pasteboard. Vo C process the last letter or says its phonetic. Personally I use Quick Nav all the time, I find it a much faster way of navigating verse the other options, short of perhaps gestures, but gestures on a touch pad can get rather achy with your wrist. Accessible FTP Client
Hello List! Now that Earthlink has updated their Web Hosting site to make it mostly inaccessible to blind Mac Users, I find myself in the market for an FTP client... I know eons ago, Fetch worked great with OutSpoken under Mac OS 7, 8 and 9 but the OS X version was not accessible with VoiceOver... Does the latest version of Fetch or any other FTP client work well with VoiceOver? Thanks for any help or suggestions! Lou. What I did recently was get Transmit, which is not free but has a seven-day trial. Then, after putting in the domain and user name and password, I chose the Mount as disk, button. This let me quit Transmit and use Finder to copy/paste or delete from the FTP site or whatever. Hello, You can also access any FTP server directly from Finder. Just press Command-k and in the server address enter something like: ftp://username:password@ftp.server.address It's a very basic FTP client and it does tend to hang if you access directories with a lot of files, but for a quick copy of files it's ok. Hello Jonathan, Lou, Mark, and Others, Jonathan, Mount as Disk is a contextual menu option that was added to Transmit 4. I also run Transmit 3.7, and this feature is not present. You'd have to purchase an upgrade ($19 at the Panic web site). From their web page description of version 4 additions: With the new Transmit Disk feature, you can now mount any of your favorites in the Finder itself, even if Transmit's not running. You can buy Transmit for $33.99 from the Mac App Store, if your system is Snow Leopard and up to date. Alternatively, you can buy this directly from the developer's web site. You can also get a 30-day free trial download from that site: http://www.panic.com/transmit/ If you're looking for a free FTP solution, the usually preferred option is Cyberduck. This is actually donationware where, if you continue to find the software useful, you donate some amount. The Mac App Store doesn't handle this type of model, so if you get Cyberduck from there, it will cost $23.99. You can download Cyberduck from: http://cyberduck.ch/ A donation made at that site will get you a license key that will stop the nag messages when the app is launched, There are many people who like Cyberduck, but I've read some complaints of slow transfers. Fetch still makes an updated software product, but I don't know of many people who use it. Although you can use FTP from the server (via Command-K) from Finder, this can be really slow. I would only use this to transfer local files, and otherwise it hangs a lot. I wouldn't rely on this if you really need your download files. HTH. Follw these instructions: 1. In System Preferences choose accounts. 2. Navigate to Accounts, Groups, and Login Options and interact with this. 3. THen navigate to Login options group and interact with it. 4. Stop interacting with it. THe purpose is to just get focus to these options. 5. Navigate to the right and you will find a number of options. 6. Use VoiceOver in the login window is what you want. Now you may have to unlock these options first and the unlock button is near the end of the list of options. Another note is you may not have to interact with the login option group, but you will know either way. Keyboard Configuration.
Hello! I am aware one can check the box use all f1 through f12 as standard function keys or have it unchecked. My question is how do decide when, I happen to have an iMAC with a bluetooth keyboard with fn key on the left and even a MacBook that has same placement of fn key, but on my Mac Mini the keyboard is a standard Apple keyboard with numeric keypad, fn is on the right so what is best configuration for each of these keyboard to work with VO? Hi, How can I reconnect to a bluetooth device that I've already been connected too on my mac? For example, I have a mini bluetooth keyboard that I use on both my mac and my Ipod touch. When I'm finished using it on my Ipod, do I have to go through the whole add bluetooth device process, on the mac, or is there an easier way? Hi Cortney, No, when you have paired your devices once, you don't have to pair them again each time. But you will have to disconnect it from one device and connect it to another. In some cases, this can happen automatically, in other cases you have to do it manually. I can only refer to Apple BT Keyboard, which I use with an iPHone and a Mac. For example, if I for a moment turn my iPhone into Flight Mode, the keyboard will automatically be disconnected with my phone since BT is now turned off, and connect with my Mac. Then I can turn off the Flight Mode on my phone and continue using my keyboard with my Mac. Of course, you can turn off just the BT function on your phone but that's just a matter of what's quickest to do. You can also play with the connect/disconnect options on your Mac. From an option in the Blue Tooth pane of System Preferences, you can set your Mac to show the setting for each paired device in a Blue Tooth menu in the Status Bar. Just remember, you can't connect to something that are already connected with something else. Hope this helps, and have a nice week! Hi Georges, Speaking personally, I would always check the box about using function keys as standard. I rarely want to adjust screen brightness but often want to use VO commands which depend on function keys. THe default placement of the FN key on the full Apple keyboard makes the idea of needing to press it every time along with the VO keys an exercise in contortion. Best, Zack.
