Wow, this is compicated to explain. The vo:j command jumps between major areas of a window. In mail if you have both the messages panel and maibboxes panel open, it skips one of the panels, and just jumps between toolbar, mailboxes and message list. So, you can close the, mailboxes panel, or

Yes, it sounds like your student has Column View enabled, and you do not. Actually, I much prefer Column View, but that is an individual choice. Column View can be enabled/disabled by going to the Menu Bar > View, and pressing the Down Arrow until you get to Column View. Now press the Enter key

Hi, You can also just press enter on the messages to open them. I honestly see no real difference between pressing command W, and pressing VO J. Your actually pressing 2 fewer keys to read a message, and 1 fewer key to close the message and go back to your messages table. JMO. Ricardo
