I think you may have Shah of Iran confused with Saddam of Iraq Once
Shah was deposed, he left to live in exile [then died].. Saddam is a
different chronology, different country...

So the Iranians run out the shah and the US decides that's a bad deal so we set
him back up, he then basically goes on a killing spree and we wonder why they

The best thing we could do to the middle east is leave the whole dang place

Just for the record, my feelings can not be hurt by any comments you may
make about any public official or personage.
Any convictions I may hold can not be swayed by terms of personal
derogation or lack of respect. I curse fluently in 5 languages, so I likely
have heard any insult that may be thrown... Let the games begin..

I side with Mao on this.. we are adults, we have opinions, and we have
decades of knowledge, much of beyond just Mercedes.. Keep it friendly and
informative.. perhaps even spirited.. I'm good with that..

 Okay.
Are you up for a slight challenge?
Give us your view on something other than brain cancer - I'm
interested to hear you speak a bit about Mr. Carter. I really did not
pay attention to his time in DC, but it seems there are things to like
 about his ways these days.
I would also like to hear more about what Grant and Curly meant about
Mr. Carter's time in DC and the ruination from that time until today.
My opinion is that it is partly politics but mostly our fat-*** ways
of doing things - yeah, we don't. We think DC will do it. We want
more for us. We want entertainment. I like the guys that took that
AK47 guy down in France - that was doing something. We need more of
that. And DIY W123 repair is also doing something. That is why I
like to hear this stuff from Dwight AND Grant. And Wilton. You guys
have more basis for politics than my fat-*** life.
 Thanks.

Actually, the ubiquitous silber is not bad. Not quite as good as

A quick google search seems to indicate that a lot of the new ones have
power steering.
Don't know that I would worry about getting one with tracks instead of

Get chains and it should be fine.
The tires on the newer ones are generally larger than they were on the

Several of us answered the original post. Unless you HAVE to change
cars to keep SWMBO happy, your current 124 will run another 250k or
more if you can keep the tinworm away.

E320 is ok, but more prastic than your 124. Less soul, more like an asian car.

If I run the tracking number, it tracks back to AZ.
That's why it takes forever for me to get parts from them.

I think they sell their own stuff.

I'm sure that's the case.

That's what Worldpac does. A lot of the online parts retailers are using a
customized "front end" that utilizes Worldpac's system. When you order it just
goes to Worldpac and they drop ship from one of their warehouses with the
seller's information on the pack slip and shipping label.

You just have to be an informed shopper when it comes to these guys.
Fortunately, most of them identify the manufacturer. I always check the part

The last times I installed 2000 and XP, the updates take a day and
several manual shutdown/restarts.  I believe MS does this
intentionally so that you get disgusted installing the "old" OS and
go out and buy the "new" OS, which is still only 2000 with all the
patches and a gussied up "new" interface.  (bloatware)

I did that experiment years ago when XP was new.

Clean installs of 2000 (near or at end of life) Wissta and XP
ran all the SPs and Updates until MS was happy.

Each HD had about the same amount of space used.  By now since 2000
and XP are dead and MS does not admit wissta ever existed, that a
fully patched Winder 10 will be bigger than fully patched XP, but I'd
bet it is nearly the same as a fully patched winders 8.1.

Sounds like M$ is playing the "frustrate you with winders 7 installs
so you go out and buy 10" game.

Makes no difference where i order from. It takes a week to get
anything unless i can buy from FLAPS. once in a while it is less,
but I figure that is a bonus.

If I try to anticipate everything i'll need, i end up with unused parts.
If I take things apart, then order, I have a vehicle down for a week
(or 2 if the unforseen happens)

Sometimes I end up taking the car apart 2 or 3 times as parts trickle in.

Its a lot less frustrating to keep one old MB in ready reserve. Then
if you have one down waiting for parts, you can still carry on.
Right now I have cars scattered over 1500 miles, and that is not good
either...

[MBZ] IPOG was:ChowdahQ 8 coming soon

2015-08-26 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes

IPOG??? International Poker Organization of Georgia?

POG is Pineapple Orange Guava juice, popular in HI

POGS are milk bottle cap centers that are collectibles (originally
from POG, but later printed and sold just as paper discs)

POGS is a game played in Hawaii with the Milk Bottle cap centers (POGS)

I have some Hawaii Boy Scouts POGS that I could probably sell for
pretty good money at National Jamboree or at NOAC.

No idea what IPOG is...

Re: [MBZ] Finished with updating Win7 laptop!

2015-08-26 Thread Rich Thomas via Mercedes
I just bought a Dell XP laptop for $40 to run my little laser burner
machine. I don't think I will be fooling with updates on it or
whatever, though I did have to find a driver to try to get the wireless
to talk to my router, which it now does but won't connect to wifi. I
think the new router language is beyond its kin.

Probably, but I didn't have SP1 available.

The last times I installed 2000 and XP, the updates take a day and
several manual shutdown/restarts. I believe MS does this
intentionally so that you get disgusted installing the "old" OS and go
out and buy the "new" OS, which is still only 2000 with all the
patches and a gussied up "new" interface.

Somewhere today, there is a career car thief exploiting this principle to
gain instant entry to a new car worth thousands of dollars.

If you doubt it, look for the statistics on number of cars stolen and
dismantled each year. It is a huge industry.

Re: [MBZ] car hacking

2015-08-26 Thread Rich Thomas via Mercedes
Once done, some Chinese outfit will be selling the equipment for
cheepcheep, then it becomes another running battle. Just like all the
other cracks, hacks, cloners, and whatever else to circumvent or get
into various systems -- the electronic keys are big now, garage door
openers, whatever.

I recall some years ago getting a cell phone bill (my work phone) for
nearly $2k, calls all over the world, most to Mexico, from all over the
US. I call the cell phone co, whoever it was, and ask WTF. They look
into it, determine my (analog at the time) phone had been cloned and
someone made clones and were probably selling time to make calls. Found
out a few others at the company had the same thing done, turns out
someone was probably sitting at a traffic light not far from the office,
sniffing phones while people sat in the traffic making calls or pinging
the towers or whatever. Equipment was fairly cheap even then (though
probably not from China at that time). Now the cops have these devices
that can spoof phones, acting like a cell node, and collect all kinds of
stuff from them. I guess if you have a coupla $k you could buy one too.

I just back up the windows activation, format and install windows from a
slipstreamed
Win 7 CD, restore the activation, and selectively update with windows update,
downloading
most of the security patches and not much else. Then I have to install all my

Autohaus uses the stupid UPS/USPS arrangement for their cheap shipping. This is
the equivalent of a slow boat to China. On a few occasions I've upgraded to UPS
and things get to me promptly, albeit they still never ship the same day I
order them. If you hit the threshold for free shipping I believe things go UPS
as well.

I just try to plan accordingly when I order from them and not order something
I'm in a hurry for, if possible.

Re: [MBZ] 126 Rubber WUZ: ADMIN

2015-08-26 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Clarification: OEM part.

I will give Autohaus credit for sourcing lots of little bits that are stupid
expensive at the dealer, even with a discount. A good example of this is the O
rings for the oiler tubes on the M119 engine. From MB they're like $2/each.
Something like $0.35/each from Autohaus, and they often come in the original
Carl Reinz bag, too.

I needed a thermostat for the "new" S420, as it takes forever to get to working
temperature (I'm assuming it's got the original thermostat in it.) From the
dealer it's like $45 my cost, the same OEM thermostat from Autohaus is under
$30 shipped.
