Also, look for :
The *Outdoor Co-ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society* was a group
of several dozen women and a few men that had, since August 17, 2011,[1]

organized regular gatherings around New York City
, meeting to read and discuss
books in public while topless.[2]

[3]

The primary objective of the group, besides enjoying the sun and book
reading, was to create awareness that New York law allows toplessness
in public, and to change social
attitudes to the exposure of women's breasts. The group's blog had reported
that there had been no harassment of the participants by the police
, and very
rarely by the public.

The battery in a trunk you can't open does require something like the ODB

[MBZ] OT - compressed air system update

2021-07-04 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
I decided on the "Maxline M7500 Master Kit, 3/4-Inch x 100-Feet" system.
After adding another $300 or so in fittings, regulators, filters an driers,
etc., It's up and holding pressure now. I have two drops in opposite
corners of the hangar, can tell that the die grinder sounds like it's
spinning faster, and I don't have to worry about PVC shrapnel while I'm
working now.
The system was easy to work with and seems good. Time will tell, hopefully
for the next owner, long after I'm gone.

My vote is for a short in the wiring - it seems the most likely cause for
the window going down uncommanded. It's probably where the wires enter the
door at the hinge area or where they pass through a grommet that has
deteriorated over the years.

Very true!
Also remember that all electrical use does not occur at the same time.
Typically cooling/heating demand is highest during the day and most EVs
will be charged at night - actually evening out the load somewhat.

2021-07-03 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
It also points out the folly of massive centralized systems. When one plant
goes down, too many are left without power (which most of us depend on for
daily life). We need efficient local (in my backyard) power generation
systems - decentralized power (thorium reactors, anyone?). You can then
produce the power you need, when you need it. Combine solar, wind, whatever
with the fossil fuel of your choice.
Efficiency is the key - the current home generators burn too much fuel for
the power they produce. There
There's an opportunity here for someone smart enough to figure it out.

Re: [MBZ] Maybe I should stick it to FedEx

2021-06-11 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
I ordered a few items from amazon yesterday, and they promised next day
delivery. To my surprise, the order was in my mailbox at 11am this morning
- delivered by the USPS! About the earliest they come by our house is 11 -
usually more like 3-4pm.
How did Amazon get USPS to deliver that fast???

Closer to the original thread topic, lasat year I had an order of airplane
parts go missing due to UPS. They reported it as delivered, though it was
nowhere to be found. I filed a claim, had several back and forth emails
with them. It was about $400 worth. UPS said they'd work with the shipper.
I needed the parts so called the shipper, who said "Oh, so sorry, we'll get
another order out today". They did, and it arrived three days later. Almost
two months after the first order was reported as delivered, it arrived. The
box had obviously been sitting outside in the rain for the duration. I have
no idea where/how they found it.

YOu buy the car online, fly to Japan, drive it around seeing the sights,
park it in a long term lot, fly home. Six months later, go back to visit
and have your car waiting for you (with a dead battery). Perhaps rent it
out to other tourists, like an Air B for cars ---

There are cell phone controlled switches for turning on aircraft engine
heaters remotely in the winter. You could use one of those to power a DPST
latching relay that could turn the water heater on and off as needed.

I don't remember the MGC being too bad - it was tighter at the firewall,
byt I don't have any bad memories from working on them. I was working at a
"foreign car garage" putting myself through college in the late 60's, early
'70's, and saw a lot of MGs, Triumphs, Jags, VWs, Fiats, Simcas, and the
occasional MB and Jap cars.

I used brake cleaner to wipe off the paint just before I installed them -
didn't want to risk contaminating the new pads - but that was a long time
ago. Didn't think to ask here first, just did it. The pads worked very well
with the treatment. YMMV.

Aircooled engines run much higher cylinder head temps than liquid cooled
engines, meaning a higher risk of detonation. Yes, I'd run premium without
question. An aircraft engine with 8.5:1 pistons needs a minimum of 93

No good surface for a suction cup - all either too small or curved. Too
many locations to glue steel on to be feasible, and you want to remove
weight from an aircraft, not add it. I used a headband light, jsut sit it

Does anyone know about these, have an opinion about them? (No Apple

on reboots too frequently now, in spite of the two year old SSD. The PC is
12 years old now, so I'm thinking it's time to retire it - it runs 24/7.

Re: [MBZ] Lithium batteries

2021-05-14 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
In aircraft the continuous drain capacity is also a concern - you want
navigation and communications if the alternator dies before you get to the
ground. The lithiums are more than twice the cost, but weight is less than
a fourth (VERY significant) and they seem to be expected to last 6 years in
use instead of the lead acid's 5 years expected lifespan. They also have to
provide spacers for the battery box in certificated aircraft. I will be
using them in the experimentals I'm working on.

We laid down some 18"x18" tiles once - and I had to cut some notches, etc.
I used a cheap tile saw - the mini table saw type with the blade running in
a tray of water. You just cut the sides, then a bunch of parallel cuts in
the middle and knock out the tabs you just created.

2021-04-21 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
About that Tesla fire:
"Tesla Fire in Texas Crash Was Not How It Was Reported, Says Fire Chief"
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a36189237/tesla-model-s-fire-texas-crash-details-fire-chief/

   - A crash

and
subsequent fire of a Tesla Model S
    this past weekend quickly
caught attention online for its "four-hour" blaze, but that's not exactly
what happened, the fire chief told *Car and Driver* today.
   - The initial fireball was contained in a matter of minutes, and it was
just tiny flareups that were a longer-lasting problem, chief Palmer Buck
   explained to the *Houston Chronicle

*
   and *C/D.*
   - Although the chief acknowledges EV fires require different tactics by
firefighters, Tesla and government safety data asserts that traditional
internal-combustion vehicles experience one fire for every 19 million miles
traveled; for Teslas EVs, it's one fire for 205 million miles traveled.
