Hi folks,
It is exciting and refeshing to see such interest in this topic since the
recent election. There are a variety of potential reforms that we could move
towards in Minneapolis over the next few years. A sustained, organized and
thoughtful effort initiated and guided by a group

between perceived and actual conflict of interest for public

Let's take the example of this
Yesterday I read a proposal for an amendment to the Minneapolis zoning code
that has me deeply concerned. The proposal, by Council Member Lilligren,
would decrease the required lot size for duplexes from the current 10,000.
For example, you cannot build a duplex on an 8,000 square foot lot now,
Creating a public financed campaign system in our city would create
a more participatory democratic society. It would create a level
playing field for all citizens regardless of their economic
situation or institutional influence. Voting would have significant
more power and thus hopefully
In the current zoning it doesn't appear that a duplex can be built or re-built
without a variance on the 10,000 sq. ft. land requirement. Variances are being
given now to get around this requirement so it isn't like we are really
stopping anyone who wants to build a new duplex.
