On Windows 7 RC (build 7100) it works after adding the policy-plugin.
Looking good, too bad it's not being actively developed anymore.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spicefly SugarCube (Automatic MusicIP DJ)

2009-07-16 Thread bakker_be

Hi everybody,
just discovered MusicIP (apparently a little late ...) and installed
Spicefly SugarCube onto 7.3.4 - 27488, and now it seems the default
shuffle function is broken :-(
I like to use this function mainly when I want to play one specific
genre, and get nothing else in the mix. Without changing systemwide
settings, affecting other players (and listeners of course) also, I
cannot seem to achieve this with SugarCube.
Any idea's?
thnx,
Bart

I can tell you that it works perfectly with Squeezeplay, the only thing

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Smart Mix plugin

2013-04-14 Thread bakker_be

Below an example of the reason I don't really like the mixes made by
Smartmix. This kind of sequence of songs never would come up, but to me
it's logical and sounds quite correct. (Please ignore the incorrect
cover for the track by Bertignac et les Visiteurs ;)) If somebody has a
recipe where this would be a possible kind of mix, please enlighten me,
as I do find the MusicIP analysis part to be a rather time consuming
thing + it forces me to stop playing music while it's doing it,
otherwise the MusicIP database gets corrupted.

I do know Stephan Eicher, have several of his albums, as well as

lumping all foreign artists together by country of origin rather than
the style of music they're playing. Just try to get Hans Theessink (a

third song play in an eternal loop.
When I generate an 80 minute MIP-mix it works better, but after a while
it lands in an eternal loop again (of more than 2 songs, but still
;))
My settings are in the attached screenshot. These settings worked
impeccably in SP 7.4 Softsqueeze (used because sync was broken

I have quite a lot of compilations with Album Artist set to Various,
but different Track Artists. Block Artist repeating is set to 20
tracks, but somehow this doesn't quite work out. I'll get for instance

immediately by a Whitesnake track from Live, in the heart of the

Is it somehow possible to ignore the Album Artist for mix creation?

OK, default settings there, nothing strange in your per player
settings.
Would it be asking too much to stop the MusicIP headless service LMS,
rename the default.m3lib (found in
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MusicIP\MusicIP Mixer) to
something else and let the MusicIP Mixer rescan your collection. After
scanning select all files, right click and choose Archive Analysis,
this will make future scans quicker. Restart the MusicIP headless
service and go to the web page, reload the cache. Restart LMS and enable
the MusicIP plugin (I've always had it active, I used already before
Sugarcube existed). Set it like this:
'[image: http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/6217/sc07.png]'
Now Clear library and rescan everything.
Fingers crossed, it should work perfectly now :)

Theoretically speaking it shouldn't have any consequences, as all data
is also saved into the MusicIP database (default.m3lib), which is where
the mixing system gets all data. I think your problem is caused by a
combination of factors: adding music to the MusicIP database through the
MusicIP Mixer, while at the same time listening to music autoqueued by
Sugarcube. Since playcount and last played time are written back to the
DB, this could cause conflicts, depending on how it deals with file
locks.

If they use different libraries and it's only the one used by MusicIP
application that is updated, that could explain the issue.
I have a vague memory that I've seen someone that had some issue where
the GUI application didn't use the same library as the headless version
 which were used by SBS.

What I would do before trying archive analysis is to:
 1. Setup MusicIP plugin in SBS according to bakker_be previous post
 2. Restart SBS and make sure MusicIP headless is running before SBS is
 started
 3. Perform a full rescan in SBS
 4. Try the M icon and the MusicIP Mixer link to see if it returns
 the expected result

If point 4 doesn't return expected result it means that the issue might
still be with the MusicIP library.
If point 4 returns the expected result I would be very surprised if
 archive analysis makes any difference.
The reason I advise to archive is mainly for speed in the case of
needing to rescan. For morbeas' collection that's not yet an issue, but
I can assure you it makes a huge difference on mine (67K tracks). I
think that he'll be set with a rebuild of his DB, provided that in the
future he's careful in adding music.
My workflow is rather elaborate, but it works for me:

1a. Buying physical, digital or bootleg torrents for my live music
needs
1b. Ripping to FLAC in Mediamonkey
2. MusicBrainz tagging in Mediamonkey
3. ReplayGain scanning tagging in Foobar2000
4. DynamicRange scanning in Foobar 2000
These steps are all performed outside of the library folder.
5. Moving to library folder with Mediamonkey
6. Shutdown of all music services
7. Add music to MusicIP Mixer, analyse archive analysis
8. Restart MusicIP headless and reload cache
9. Restart LMS and scan for new and changed

Good to know. I haven't needed it in ages (way before LMS in any case),
since I've got everything running quite stable. That's about to change
though: I'm planning to migrate my whole setup to Windows Server 2012 RC
in a couple of weeks, as well as adding several TB of storage :)

Re: Announce: Spicefly SugarCube Version 2.03 (Automatic MusicIP DJ) for 7.x

2012-06-15 Thread bakker_be

I'll admit this could drive someone crazy :D
Let's go over this playlist:
Metallica - Anthrax = OK by me
Anthrax - Death Angel = still OK
Death Angel - Chris Poland - King Diamond = can't comment on hat one,
don't know Chris Poland
King Diamond - Badlands = still get it, it's softer than most of the
previous ones, but that's because King Diamond is so very Judas Priest
influenced
Badlands - Alice in Chains = still OK by me
Alice in Chains - Blind Melon = seems a stretch to me, but I'm not
really familiar with them
Blind Melon - this particular Aretha song = I'm afraid it's acoustical
analysis (which is what MusicIP is all about) is probably somewhat
similar, especially as
Aretha - Billy Joel actually again makes sense to me.
Have you looked if somewher in that sequence MusicIP (and hence
Sugarcube) didn't find a match to the playing song and queued a random
one? I'd guess that to be the case, but if it isn't, just let this mix
continue for a while, even if it isn't what you're really in the mood
for right now.
In my experience, MusicIP mixes, generated continuously by Sugarcube,
tend to go in waves: e.g. if you start with some really uptempo song, it
will gradually slow down, just to pick up the pace again later on. When
I'm home alone, I unblock all genres, and I've had it go from Meshuggah
all the way to Elvis Presley and back up to Children of Bodom, which at
first glance may seem strange, but when taking the time to really
compare things like key, signature, passion, rythm, ... of the song the
individual steps actually make sense.
I know this doesn't really help you if you want to create a metal
related mix, but that's wher the blocking of certain genres comes in
handy, although I too feel like more than 3 would be welcome, as
sometimes i'd like to let it loop through exactly that. Maybe it's
possible with moods or recipes first created in MusicIP mixer, but I
don't know.
As an aside: this playlist clearly indicates Metallica isn't metal
anymore ;)

Re: Announce: Spicefly SugarCube Version 2.03 (Automatic MusicIP DJ) for 7.x

2012-06-16 Thread bakker_be

erland wrote:
If I remember correctly, SugarCube adds one track at the time and use
the previous one to seed the next one.

So, if you get a SugarCube playlist as this (which you posted
 recently):
 - Ride the Lightning by Metallica
 - Caught In a Mosh by Anthrax
 - Stop by Death Angel
 - Row Of Crows by Chris Poland
 - The Curse by King Diamond
 - Dancing On The Edge by Badlands
 - It Ain't Like That by Alice In Chains
 - Deserted by Blind Melon
 - The House That Jacks Buit by Aretha Franklin

SugarCube only uses Metallica for seeding Caught In a Mosh by Antrax.
And Caught In a Mosh is used for seeding Stop, and Stop is using
for seeding Row of Crows and so on ending with The House That Jacks
Buit being seeded based on Deserted by Blind Melon.

However, this is how it worked a long time ago when I used SugarCube
myself last, this might have changed in the recent version so SugarCube
uses the same seed track for multiple tracks and in that case the
current behavior looks a bit strange.
As far as I know SugarCube still works in this way. In the early days
the algorithm wasn't as solid as it is now, so I'd use the built-in
MusicIP mixing function to generate a basic seed mix, after which
SugarCube took over, mixing in a new track each time upon playing a
track of the seed mix. Now I just use the random music function, set to
give me 1 track, and I let Sugarcube handle it from there. It's quite
often that I don't need to shake out a new seed track for days on
end.
I've never seen behaviour like what Morbeas is experiencing. The only
glitch I have is the existence of the nearly identical tracks on
several different albums (initial studio album, various artists
compilation, artist compilation, live album) that sometimes get played
with for instance just one song between them, sometimes even jumping
back forth, but that doesn't disturb me enough to bother CParker with
it.
Given that Morbeas seems to have this issue solely with Metallica-based
mixes, I'd suggest that he re-rip his albums and analyse them all over
again. I'd even be willing to put my files on dropbox or some other
service for him to try out in his system.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Guide to get good MusicIP mixes working

 Hi there,

I am overjoyed to finally have MusicIP working on my Squeezebox but I am
 having issues with creating mixes.

In a nutshell, I get the exact mixes I want in the MusicIP program open
on Windows when I click Mix on a song say by Radiohead or Sufjan Stevens
and it produces 15 songs which fit well but are very rarely from the
 same album, or even artist.
However much I change the Style and Variety amounts, I always get a very
different outcome with Sufjan or Radiohead, where it is often repated
from the same album or artist.

The simple question I have s how can I get the same excellent mixes I
produce in the MusicIP Windows program when using my Squeezebox? I would
far rather use the MusicIP plugin as the Spicefly one has produced to
strange a range of outcomes ((Bjork to Michael Buble!!!)

Any advice you could give would be gratefully received.

 Jon
Hi there,
one thing you should keep in mind when comparing mixes from Spicefly
Sugarcube default MusicIP mixes is the fact that they operate quite
differently:
-Sugarcube takes the seed song and requests a match from the MusicIP
server. When this song begins to play, it is promoted to seed song and
the process is repeated continuously.
-default MusicIP takes the seed song and returns a predefined number
of matching songs. Once these are played, you have to create a new mix.
This is the reason why the resulting mix can be quite different,as
sugarcube essentially creates a new 1-song mix from every song it plays.

That said, Sugarcube also has a legacy mode, emulating the behaviour
of the default plugin. I haven't tried it myself, but I believe it
will differ only from the default in that the mix will keep playing,
each time based upon the last song of the batch.
Sugarcube has a lot more tweaking possibilities for the mix creation.
I'd urge you to look into them.

Given that I can buy a premium brand 64GB micro-SD at around 20€ without
searching for bottom price and that said card can contain around 200
hours of music
(https://www.google.be/webhp?hl=en#hl=en=640+bytes+%2F+711+kbps+in+hours),
which even when listening 12hrs/day non stop equates to almost 17 days,
I don't really see space as an issue. The only time I'm away from access
to my physical music for that long is when I'm on holiday and then I do
other things than listen to music for 12 hours a day :p
That said, if you'd like to have this kind of functionality you could
try and implement this as a script for Mediamonkey, which has all the
other functions you require and also already has an AutoDJ plugin that
connects to your MusiIP server
(http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2=12496=0=t=a).
It's been out of development since 2008 but the basic code still works

That's not what this app is about. It's internal workflow is a bit as
follows:

- You tell it where your MusicIP server is
- You tell it where your MusicIP server finds your music files
- You tell it to create a mix using the parameters you set
- It sends your mix request to your MusicIP server
- It gets a list of file paths from your MusicIP server (similar to
the result you get when using the "Test Mix Creation" button on the
  MusicIP webinterface)
- It downloads these files to your phone
- It creates a M3U-file in the order your MusicIP server returned them
to allow any music app on your phone to play the music

It would probably be easier to just foresee a duplicate librarie in mp3
and a separate MusicIP pointing there.
You won't actually have mixing capabilities on your phone, as this app
leverages the mixing solution on your server to generate a static
playlist in the right order, allowing you to take it out of your network
reach.
What you're suggesting would necessitate manual editing of the m3u
playlist file to point to the mp3 files, deleting the FLAC files the app
synced to your phone and manually copying over the mp3's ...
You be the judge what will be the easiest long-time solution :)

It should be downloading the songs to the /Music/ directory in you phone
storage, not on your sd card.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spicefly SugarCube for Android

2016-06-11 Thread bakker_be

I've got a similar issue, logfile below:

Code:

  ==
  CopyFrom:smb:/mnt/music2/Various/Radio 10 Gold Top 4000 2010/1558-Around My
Dreams.flac
  Username:root
  Pwd: xxx
  CopyTo:/storage/emulated/0/Music/spicefly
  CopyFile:1558-Around My Dreams.flac
  ==
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
Logon failed: unknown username or bad password

I'm 100% sure that username & password are correct, as they're the same
I use for SSH access, as wel as to connect to the SMB shares I created
to enable me to do the tag management from my windows pc using
Mediamonkey & foobar.
I think the easiest way of getting around this is to do something
similar to the Dynamic Path Conversion you've implemented in the LMS
plugin. Explanation of my reasoning:

- I've got music available to my Vortexbox under /mnt/music/, but this
resides physically on my NAS4FREE box, where it's shared through SMB
  as \\NAS4FREE\Music
- I've also got music available to my Vortexbox on a USB drive, which
is mounted under /mnt/music2, where it's also shared through SMB as
  \\Vortexbox\Music2
- MusicIP runs on the Vortexbox, using the only possible lcations
/mnt/music & /mnt/music2. As you see, it's not aware of either SMB
  share
- The path introduced in the app (smb:/mnt/music2) leads nowhere on
either the vortexbox or the NAS4FREE, as it's not shared that way (you
never should share the root of the mnt directory as that gives access
to your entire system), hence the bad username or password

Dynamic Path conversion would enable us to just tell the app what local
path corresponds tho which smb share (I doubt that dbinder101 shares his
drive as d for instance ...). Ideally it would be something along the
lines of:

- MusicIP path: /mnt/music
- SMB path: \\IP-address\sharename
- SMB username: username
- SMB password: password

This could replace the whole content of the current "Music" tab in
settings, making it at once more easily understood and more flexible.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Spicefly SugarCube] MusicIP can be ondifferent server?

2016-06-09 Thread bakker_be

You are 100% correct. Spicefly Sugarcube even has a feature to allow you
to translate the path your music is found at (Dynamic Path Conversion).
Example:

- LMS is running on your NAS
- Music is on your NAS
- LMS sees your music on e.g. /mnt/music/
- MusicIP server is running on a PC
- MusicIP sees your music at \\NAS\Music
- Enable Dynamic Path Conversion
- In "DPC (LMS) - Set #1" enter /mnt/music/
- In "DPC (MusicIP) - Set #1" enter \\NAS\Music

Two sets are available, making sure that LMS knows where to find the
song MusicIP tells it to play next.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Spicefly SugarCube] MusicIP can be ondifferent server?

2016-06-10 Thread bakker_be

MusicIP server must indeed be running. On the bright side, just about
any X86 machine is able to run it, so an old netbook with an Atom cpu is
quite enough and won't consume all that much power.
My previous setup was 'vortexbox ' (http://vortexbox.org/downloads)for
LMS, but for some strange reason the included MusicIP server didn't want
to scan my music folders, so I used MusicIP headless on my Windows
Server (where my music was also physically located), and it worked
flawlessly using the Dynamic Path Conversion. I've since moved away from
my Windows Server, redoing my whole IT infrastructure at home, and the
newest version of Vortexbox is happily running on an old Dell E6500
laptop, MusicIP included, the Physical location of my music being a
'NAS4FREE ' (http://www.nas4free.org/)box I created, holding around 24TB
of data :)

That is indeed the way it works. One caveat though: it's not really
"importing" from server A to server B. MusicIP on server B actually
scans all your music again, creating it's own library, but the process
of scanning is immensely accellerated by the presence of the analysis
tags. Another solution would be to make sure that file paths on server B
are identical to server A (e.g. /mnt/music/AlbumArtist/Album/Track) and
that both servers run the same version of MusicIP. This would enable you
to just copy over the db from server A to server B and it would work as
well.

To me that's been the solution for years already. I've toyed some with
smartmix, and tried Roon as well, but nothing comes close IMO. To me the
main advantage of MusicIP is that it doesn't really keep you locked into
a specific genre, but bases itself on acoustic suitability, which
neither the Echonest nor Roon's "Radio" function seem to be able to
reproduce as flawlessly.

Below how I've got it filled out. Actually copying music doesn't work
yet for me (files local on server not yet implemented), but mix creating
does, connection to the server as well.

- "Music Location Server Name": Just fill out what you like, most
logical is the real "name" of your server
- "Music Location IP Address": this needs to be the real IP of the
server where MusicIP finds the music to scan
- "Music Location Username": Username needed to connect to the server
where MusicIP finds the music to scan
- "Music Location Password": Password needed to connect to the server
where MusicIP finds the music to scan

Remember that this is ALPHA software, so it's very much possible there
are bugs, stuff isn't implemented yet, the logic of handling things may
be off, ... We're basically helping Charles developing this by being
guinea pigs :p That does mean it calls for "experienced" users at this
moment though ...

Hi Charles,
given that you post about the ALPHA version here, I take it that you'd
like the feedback here as well?

- Location where to save the music would be nice. It allows for
copying it to the SD card instead of internal memory.
- "Music" tab in the settings is a little unclear. "Music location
Server name" with tool tip "UNC server name" should probably be called
"Music share name" and should logically be the second entry, after the
IP. Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding your intent.
- At this moment I've not managed to get any music transferred to my
phone, which could be caused by the second remark. To me a UNC path is
"\\server name or IP\sharename", so that's what I introduced: "music"
in the first field and the IP in the second field

OK, since you tell me it's really DPC, I've been playing with the data I

You should be aware that in itself the headless MusicIP server doesn't
play anything. For playing you need either the MusicIP Mixer, which has
a player component, or you need another program (Mediamonkey, LMS, ...)
to interface with your MusicIP server.

I've tried it and don't seem to be getting this behaviour at all. I

First difference: I only get 10 songs instead of the 26 you mention.
Second difference: no duplicates whatsoever in these 10 tracks ...

Hmmm, that is odd indeed. I'll try that on my own system, never used it
before myself, as I personally like the way SugarCube does it by
default. The way I've got it configured on LMS is actually quite similar
in the final result:

- The "Random Mix" function is set up to only include specific genres
- It is also set up to only give me just 1 song when "Song Mix" is
  selected
- On my phone and on my Touch I've moved "Song Mix" to the front page
  of the menu
- I just click this, it starts playing it's 1 non-MusicIP song, after
  which SugarCube takes over

I don't need the extended possibilities you've built into Tasker, as my
main system is controlled through a Logitech Harmony, which has
programmed actions for just about every scenario in which we use it. In
practice I don't even need the "Song Mix" shortcut on the home menu all
that often. I generally only use it when a mix begins to drift out of my
mood of the moment, which can be several days after initially started
...

Thanks for the clarifications :) You forget/haven't gotten around to the
users which are using Linux with either local or remote files.
Example:

- My files reside on my NAS
- Location is shared through SMB/CIFS
- LMS + MusicIP runs on a separate machine (e.g. Vortexbox)
- NAS share is mounted to /mnt/music
- LMS + MusicIP point to /mnt/music

This situation is actually identical if the music is stored locally on
the Linux box, as Linux mounts all filesystems, whether they're local or
remote, in the same way

Why do you keep going at it the hard way? LMS has a builtin MusicIP
client, which does this for you, albeit a little featureless and which
needs MusicIP to run on the same machine as LMS, but by far the best and
easiest way of interfacing with MusicIP is Spicefly Sugarcube, a plugin
for which you'll need a license (£20, lifetime license or £10/year),
which is a nobrainer actually. It should give you all you need, and
probably a lot more. Below the part of the settings (adjustable per
player) that deals with what you're trying to do ...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Play mood with sugarcube and autoplay using tasker or eventghost

2016-06-14 Thread bakker_be

Re-read everything, and it seems to me you're not happy with the default
way of Spicefly SugarCube of adding just 1 song to the playlist eacht
time. Below the setting which will change that:
20612

Again: be aware that all the finetuning of how it creates and plays your
mixes happens on a per player basis, so "Server Settings -> Player ->
Spicefly SugarCube". It also has the possibility to copy the same
settings to all active players.

I've been looking into this whole username & password thing, but I'm not
really getting anywhere. Attached an extract of the samba.log on my
vortexbox, containing 2 actions: a succeeded connection from ES File
Explorer, without specifying any credentials at all for access to the
SMB-shares, and secondly a failed attempt from sugarcube, specifying
only root as username, but a blank password with the exact same result
as previously using either root and it's associated password or no
credentials at all, being no result at all ...

2016-03-18 Thread bakker_be

I'm on 1.0.3-dev-6 (x86-64) (how does this upgrade BTW, shouldn't it be
automagic?) and for some strange reason my Airport Express seems to come
and go in a random way. It's in my wife's workshop, connected over
powerlan. Up until now I've had an iPad 1 in there, which sends the
music to it using Airplay, but in the summer, when the windows of the
workshop are wide open, as well as the back windows of the house, it's
quite clear that sync isn't really working all that well that way (our
BBQ area is in the middle :)). I never experience dropouts this way
though, so the disappearing of the Airport for hours at a time shouldn't
be a network issue ...
I'd like to use this solution but imperfectly synced music is of course
still better than no music at all :p

OK, partial success now :) I switched over to the dev repo, chose the
statically linked x64 binary and it discovers my airport. I saw it
appear in the player choice for a very short time, but now it's

Hi Philippe,
I'm quite sure it is:

But even if it isn't, shouldn't the correct flavour of the bridge be
chosen automagically? I certainly didn't tell it to run the 64-bit
version ...

Thanks for your reply. The augmentation to 30 is already present in
-dev-6. I'll check if there is a firmware update for the AE I'm using.
As I'm not home at the moment I'm not certain of the model, but it does
indeed resemble a square hockey puck ...

Why the conversion to MP3? FLAC is supported in Android since Honeycomb

You are 100% correct. To me that's no issue, as quite a lot of my music
isn't even on Spotify, and I have the server running anyway, but I can
understand that for some people this makes it a no-go.

And this is another reason why I'm very happy I stuck with MusicIP and
Spicefly Sugarcube. Even though the servers haven't been on-line for
years, local analysis and mixing still works ... Granted, it adds a step
in the workflow of adding music to my LMS but IMO it's worth it.
The other reason (the main one) is that all other methods of generating
"smart mixes" are way too genre-bound. I recently installed ROON on a
trial account and launched a "Radio" starting from a Suzanne Vega
compilation. After 1.5 hours of getting only Fairport Convention,
Richard Thompson and Tracy Chapman (all from my local collection) I
cancelled the account and uninstalled the software. In my current setup
if I do the same I get acoustic songs from all kinds of bands, not only
a couple of very specific folk artists: I'd get acoustic ballads from
metal groups, Mary Gauthier ...

Hi there,
installed this without any issues yesterday on a friend's DS715, running
DSM6. Only blemish on the experience is the absence of LAME :(, which
I've not been able to solve as yet using any of the other methods
floating around in cyberspace ...
Was the absence of LAME for this model intentionally? If so, why? Not to
pressure you, but to know the (hopefully) technical reason behind it :p

What you've created here actually helps me out in a little project I was
thinking about: creating a HTA (HTML Application) to fill up a USB stick
or other removable device to capacity, with a MusicIP-approved playlist
:) HTA's should accept Python as scripting language, so I guess I'll
learn Python and leverage your code, instead of reinventing the wheel in
VBscript.
Just to be sure I understand what you're doing here: you're asking 10x
75 tracks based on the initial parameter, of which you then remove
duplicate lines? That would explain why I get 674 tracks in the
playlist. What I don't get is why there's one blank line after the first
75 lines, and none after that ...

To be able to do that, the developers of the existing controllers need
to leverage the Android Auto API. The possibilities for interaction
however are very limited, it doesn't really go beyond play, pause, skip
fwd, skip back. This means you'd need to prepare what you want to play

It's probably a firewall thing on your WIndows 10 box. Did you allow
traffic through port 10002? You need to go to the advanced firewall
settings to do that.

Hmm, hadn't seen that app ... Seems to still be under development as
well :) I'll try that one and get back to you ;)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] LMS in car - Usability issues control/playback software - squeezelite/OrangeSqueeze

2016-09-02 Thread bakker_be

Hi there,
I've finally tried to implement LMS in my car. Apart from a technical
issue related to the "automatic start-stop" function of my car, it works
quite well. I do have some usability issues however and don't know if
they need to be addressed on the player level or on the controller
level.
I use OrangeSqueeze as controller on my Android phone and either
squeezelite running on the BananaPi which also runs the LMS, with a USB
disk as music source, or Squeezeplayer on my phone, connected through
bluetooth. Both alternatives have generally the same issues, being:

- Unable to be controlled from the built-in controls of my car (mainly
  skip & pause are needed)
- Not paused/muted for traffic warnings

Other music apps I use on my phone work quite well in this regard, but
of course they're not LMS, and even with a 64GB SD card in my phone,
there's always music I miss from my ±3TB library at home. Ideally I
think the bluetooth commands should be used by the controller
(OrangeSqueeze) to send to the LMS, which in turn sends them to the
player, as that's the logic of the whole LMS system when using an
infrared remote control as well. It seems there's no Android controller
apps under active development anymore. Does anybody know of another
solution to my quandary?
I'm not here to debate the merits of bluetooth streaming over the direct
connection using the AUX IN; Let's just say that the added usability +
safety of controlling everything over bluetooth to me is more important
and perceptible in the noisy environment of a European middle class
diesel car than any fidelity gains ...

They are indeed. Most music apps don't really mute/pause for these, but
they do get priority, while the music continues playing more silently in
the background ...

So, in your opinion, this should really be handled in the player app?
Man, this is getting complicated :p
