Has anybody ever just all of a sudden have Protel uninstall all the servers
and licenses?
This happened to a coworker this morning. He was using Protel; went to open
a different .ddb and it would just sit there. We had a look at the servers
list and all except 3 were gone. We looked at the
yes to the first
it just happened to us too
lost all servers for no apparent reason
after getting them set back up the software didn't work correctly at all
(for example could not dbl click on objects which should respond to dbl
click)
finally had to re-install all
then fix the Select Hole size
Hi,
I think this happens when Protel has problem writing to the ini-file. I
think it does so rather often to store information about recent files
etc. If something goes wrong this file will be corrupted. Usually the
information about the servers are at the end of this Protel99SE.ini
file( I
Tim,
yes we have had it happen here not that long ago. Exactly the same
symptoms, only three servers still installed and no license info. The
afternoon that it occurred to my junior practicum student we also had a
network crash at about the same time. I think that Mattais is on the right
The Client99SE.ini file in the windows system folder (e.g.
C:\Winnt\Client99SE.ini) can accidentally get truncated. The last entries
in this file are the list of installed servers followed by the Protel unlock
codes.

On Win9x .ini file size is limited to 64k. Protel increases the size of
client99se.ini by adding to the closed files list apparently without
bound.
i am aware of this problem but don't think it was the cause in our case
firstly, is the 64K limit true for WIN2K?
anyway our ini file was small and there were not a lot of recent files
maybe this is a case where it really would have been better to put this
stuff in the registry since WIN2K
Is there a way to lock a split plane? If I have it visible, it's very easy
to accidently grab it, and move it slightly (just left click anywhere
inside). And, what's the best way to recover from accidently moving it? Is
this situation improved in DXP?
thanks,

If I didn't know better (and I don't), I'd say it looks like someone may
have just put an intentional little glitch in the code - But then again,
maybe someone really is that bad a programmer - Why is it happening to more
than a few people at realatively the same time.
On yet a different note,
Jami,
we have some recent experience with this, too many engineers
accessing schematics at the same time. All Protel seems to do is send you a
warning message that the maximum number of licenses have been exceeded. Thus
far we have never noticed any ill effects. And it doesn't seem to
On yet a different note, could it be due to too many people attempting
to
access a limited number of licenses at the same time - What would Prohel
do
if there were two requests for access at the same time (a second request
sent (to the same subroutine or procedure) while the first request
Ivan,
I didn't get a brochere, but I did get an email that contained the following
offers that expire Dec 31st. Some of them seem similar to what you received,
but there appear to be some that are different, with different prices. While
I would guess that this offer went out to all registered
Wow, how do you get it up to 64k? I have a mature installation of it
here, and I just checked its size: 8k.

Ivan, I haven't seen you asking so many questions.
What makes you so nervous?
I've been playing around with Protel for some time and
onthe other hand I'm a power PCAD user.
I can't compare the CAD packages looking at their
prices... I'm more interested in seeing what they can
really do.

I might jump on the DXP Bandwagon by the end of the year.Dropping ATS,
release of SP2, and the reduction of price is attractive. My only concern
at this point [IS sch$PCB (selection) = 99 + Sp6] pun intended. I
have followed the DXP forum and am not particularly happy that

We had this happen at Cornet Technology Inc several times. As a safeguard,
after installation, we copy all ini, rcs, and Protel related files
