OS 7.5.3 fine.
What you might be running into is that the OS you booted on is too
old. This can happen if you boot off the hard disk and try to run
the installer. You probably need to put the installer on floppies to
be able to boot from it.

It's likely a dead battery. Try this:
Turn it on and wait till you hear the beep and the drive spinning up.
Now flip the power switch off and immediately back on.
If it boots now then the battery is dead.
The battery is a 1/2 AA 3.6V Lithium.

and no delay) requires no jumpers (saves the cost of installing
jumpers). Check the drives documentation for what an inserted
jumper does.

bytes to display 1152x870x2. To display 1152x870x256 you need
1Mbyte. It's simply that a minimal 1152x870 on a Quadra was more
minimal than on a Power Mac.

This does sound like a power supply problem. Try disconnecting all drives
and removing any NuBus cards. One of them may have failed and is
overloading the power supply.
