Try a single string of 30 characters and then keep incrementing to see

I read somewhere that editing a FLAC with Audacity isn't advisable but

An audio CD created from individual FLACS should be identical to the CD
that they were originally ripped from
The long winded way will still be accurate. Each track can be checked

You can do quite a bit with "Actions" in mp3tag but there would be quite
a bit of work setting it all up and as you say you would have to start
at the bottom of the nest

Iirc Apple does now support FLAC but in a clunky way.
If you have a FLAC file in your iCloud for example you can open and play
it but the music player app doesnt yet read them into the library.

I agree. The only way the OP could achieve individual covers would be to
put each individual music file into individual folders. Bit of a faff.

Eric Clapton and never Clapton, Eric - largely because of the sort of
issues you have identified.
It only bugs me that my physical CD collection does not and can not
match this sorting methodology.

Ive been looking at maintaining a small subset of my FLAC library for
