SM/FF/hotmail -- who's at fault?
I have a correspondent who uses Firefox to view Hotmail messages on a Mac, and she keeps complaining she can't see what I've written. Any ideas? I send her something like this (without the equal signs): Dear Carol, Quoted material from her last message. My reply to her quote. hyphen-hyphen-space My sig And she sees this: Dear Carol, She's not stupid, she's not blind, she's not insane, she's just not getting my messages. There's no quoted material, no reply, and no sig. I know this for a fact because I just spent half an hour sitting next to her at her machine trying to find the magic button to reveal the rest of the messages, and failed. My guess is it's a Hotmail issue, so I'm in the wrong place, but if anyone has any ideas they will be welcome. She says she doesn't have this problem with any other senders, and I know I don't have it with any other recipients. TIA -- War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left. -- Paul B. Try clearing cookies for hotmail. Maybe they implant something in a cookie about your browser. I've tried it with my 1.1.17 and it works. My wife uses SeaMonkey and has a hotmail account. Also, what should show up on the tekrider page? Mine says this: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.22) Gecko/20090605 SeaMonkey/1.1.17 NOT Firefox/3.6.8 (Ubuntu-1.1.17+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1) The code on my page just reads the UA string, same as all those other web sites do, trying to determine your browser. Obviously, it will vary depending on versions and operating system, but will be very similar. -- -bts -Four wheels carry the body; two wheels move the soul ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

However, the current version of Firefox DOES support the new Hotmail. That's a misplaced statement; it should read the current version of Hotmail refuses Firefox older than 3.0. and refuses SeaMonkey, and refuses every browser except a select few... you get the picture. All it would take would be for a Microsoftie to add a few more strings to the sniffer JavaScript. Should take five minutes .. *if* you could find a responsible person in Redmond. It's like you calling up your ISP asking for email config help with SeaMonkey or Thunderbird or Eudora or ... you get the stock answer we only support Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail. But naturally, any email client will work .. they just don't have scripts for them. We need to fight them to support SM v2! ..or support no specific browser; use 'em all! See the following: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396259 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457791 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464074 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471184 If you can communicate with anyone at Hotmail who understands what they are doing and cares about customers, you might communicate these to that person. In the meantime, if you spoof Firefox, do so with a user-agent string that includes SeaMonkey as in the following (which I use): Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.21) Gecko/20090403 SeaMonkey/1.1.16, NOT Firefox/2.0.0.20 This way, we can prove that SeaMonkey is actually being used when some Web master claims they have no SeaMonkey users. What a load of crock. Every country surrounding Belgium has it, except Belgium itself! I /still/ can't access the mandatory Hotmail e-mail address I got from school through POP3, though this time the error message changed from inbox not available to user does not have POP3 access. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
