Freezing TB

2018-08-03 Thread Dierk . Haasis
Hello TBBETA Members!

A while ago, when listing more than a few bugs/problems TB
brings with it, freezing TB was one of them. That was already
   quite annoying.

Over the past couple of days I found out that this freeze has
effects on other programs, namely media players. When TB is
open and I try to watch a video or listen to music with VLC,
Groove, 5KPlayer etc. the media freeze, skip, and pixelate.

First I thought it was something in my network - it isn't,
internally I have a fully functional Gigabit Ethernet, outside
connection is 500 Mbit down, 50 Mbit up, even with a VPN I
don't get under 300/30. It isn't my soundcard, not my processor
   nor RAM [see https://www.screencast.com/t/elvx9PtMeJ6 ].

For testing I let first Groove* run with a long playlist. It
skipped while TB was running; System Monitor showed that every
time Groove skipped the main TB process got red and was
'unresponsive'. Same when I checked with VLC. Closing TB**,
then running Groove for an hour without any skipping, then the
   same with VLC.

This makes TB unusable to me.

*as part of the OS it should have the least interaction
   problems

**curiously a TB process ran on after closing the program; I
   mentioned that previously

Just that certificate mismatches will lead to error messages. I

If there is no certificate you can just install by clicking 'More

and prevent installation.

A workaround, yes.

My goal with this thread, as it has unfortunately become b/c I forgot

And two further probs hitting me again:

   - When connecting to GMail TB! is very often, possibly always,
asking if I allow its access to GMail [technically GMail is
asking but it's a TB! dialogue]. That is despite an app
 password for 2FA.

   - TB! Backup throws the error message "Stream read error

Several Problems - a Reminder

2018-06-17 Thread Dierk . Haasis
Hello TBBETA Members and RITLabs!

I have several problems with TB, making working with it so difficult
I now use Outlook on the side. TB is still my main e-mail client,
  for the time being.

- [automatic] filtering doesn't work at all. As some might
remember, I set up Tb completely anew last summer on a new
machine. All filters, templates, quick templates etc. have been
recreated. While templates and QT work, automation doesn't as no
filter works. All incoming e-mail stays in the Inbox.

  All IMAP accounts.

- The Antispam Sniper toolbar quadruples its icons, instead of one
instance of 'Mark as spam' and one of 'Not spam' it shows four
  instance of each.

- Some system folders are doubled up. In one account I do have
'Sent Mail ' as well as 'Gesendete Objekte' [= sent mail], the
same with 'Trash' and 'Papierkorb' [= trash]. It ius even worth
  with GMail. [see https://www.screencast.com/t/Ovmh6FQTpGU]

   - For several betas now, I'd venture it started about 3 to four
weeks ago, TB very often freezes for 15 seconds or more. It happens
without any traceable reason - MailTicker halts, main window
 freezes, editor stops responding etc.

  - TB does not close completely, there is a process, which has to be
shut via Task Manager. Very annoying with frequent updates as well
as with closing down windows [yes, I switch my computer off
regularly, as in 'every evening'].

TB Does Not Shut Down Properly

Hello TBBETA Members!

For the past few alphas, ca. the last one to two weeks, TB does not
shut down properly. One process stays on, I have to open the

While this is just slightly annoying when updating the EXE, it
appears due to this process W10 starts TB automatically the next

I am investigating. It might have to do with whitelisting since VPN

Currently not sure if TB already uses an app-specific password; if so,

v8.x: One Cosmetic, One Major Prob

2018-02-26 Thread Dierk . Haasis
Hello TBBETA Members!

  First the cosmetic error: https://www.screencast.com/t/hYHZlMfKN
shows the G-Mail connection dialogue. It still has The Bat! v7 on
  top.

The major gripe is the filter system - it simply does not work with
IMAP accounts, making automation impossible. Curiously it
appears to also affect spam sorting. For many, but not all, mails I
can mark them as spam as often as I want to, the next one will not
  be recognised as spam.

As mentioned months ago when I first noted this, all my filters have
been done anew, the installation of TB was pristine on a new

Ah, toolbar customiser invoked from the main window instead of a
message viewer one. No wonder I didn't see it.

Well, do me a favour and look at the two screen grabs, showing my
problem:

https://www.screencast.com/t/WFX5FouOx [TB main window with a
dedicated, automatically added Anti Spam Sniper toolbar]

https://www.screencast.com/t/mIUgqNoRYb [TB message viewer window with
multiple - working - instances of mark junk/not junk buttons on the
standard toolbar]

I have this error for years, with Windows 7, Windows 10, a completely
new computer with W10 and a completely fresh install of TB.

Hello TBBETA Members!

I asked this months ago, here as well as the developer of Anti Spam
Sniper but got no answer anywhere. Here we go again:

Why do I have four sets of anti-spam marker icons [that's for
'spam', four 'no spam'] in the toolbar of the edit mail window?

No, the plugin is installed only once. No, there are no further
plug-ins installed. This is a fairly pristine installation on a new
computer, still the issue already existent on a fairly long-running
  system before changing comps persist.

With HTML messages I don't get the images, which is good as far as

As expected RITlabs can't do it right, can it? When they went with a
near-subscription model asking us for money once a year, people didn't
like it. They switch back to pay per version AND are rather generous
with what counts as one version AND don't just change version numbers

fit what users want.

There is no logic to your assumption that an upper limit number should
actually be reached just because it is given. With any other company
you would have paid for v4.x.x, then again for v5.0.0. From a business
plan perspective - and I am talking not RITLabs but about us users -
we've gotten a lot out of a rather low investment. But then, these

Hello TBBETA Members!

As you see, this context menu has a completely wrong entry [try to
find it]; I've seen this in several context menus. There's also
  'Mark Unread' missing.

Attachments Links Lost When Drafting

2011-12-04 Thread Dierk Haasis
Hello TBBETA Members!

Several times now I have had difficulties sending messages I had
been created over several days by saving a draft. Just now I
couldn't send one even after setting the draft flag in the folder
off. I got an error message that TB couldn't find an attached JPEG
[actually 2 errors for each image one].

The files had not been moved or renamed, they were just the way they
had been when I added them to the mail yesterday. I had, however, to
delete the attachments and re-add the very same files.

TB As System Default on W7-64

2011-09-29 Thread Dierk Haasis
Hello TBBETA Members!

I had hoped with my changing from XP to W7-64 this old problem would
have been gone: TB is not [fully] used for MAPI or even just MAILTO.

  A few screengrabs to illustrate:

  http://www.screencast.com/t/szfthJkHMe
Shows the associations for The Bat! in W7's default programs dialogue.

  http://www.screencast.com/t/hbvcG7sjgHBa
  a) Despite W7 being set to use TB as default mailer, Opera shows Outlook as
system's default [it never was].
  b) The customised program handler for TB doesn't work.

  http://www.screencast.com/t/w0UBfOfG
W7's system's defaults shows TB as 'owning all standards'.

 http://www.screencast.com/t/ByPNDsfyc4ep
All file formats and protocols checked and associated.

 http://www.screencast.com/t/93ciEQkfP
W7's dialogue shows MAILTO associated with TB.

I hope all description are correctly assigned, if not, the pics on
 Screencast have them right.

 Problems:

 1. Clicking on a MAILTO link in Opera gives an error message/page by
 Opera - 'Internal communication error'.

 2. Clicking on e-mail notifications from Trillian opens Outlook
instead of TB. Same happens when I 'Open Inbox' for an account in
 Trillian.

 3. Using Send to-E-mail client via context-menu on files does not
work; it gives a [OUTLOOK] dialogue about the size of the file [if an
image] but upon clicking 'OK' nothing happens.

 4. Using Send to-The Bat!* via context-menu on files doesn't do
anything at all. *I put that in manually.

 5. With luck some e-mail address clicked in some programs trigger a
New Message window from TB - regrettably completely empty, although
 intricate templates are defined.

This is one line in a QT, inserted by typing 'Mail', then hitting

Spell Checker: Hunspell

2011-06-03 Thread Dierk Haasis
Hello TBBETA Members!

Bring me up to date, a while ago TB made use of Hunspell beside
their own option. I did install it, and as far as I can see it is
still installed [Hunspell.DLL in TB directory] but TB does not use
it - at least all options on its tab are greyed out.

I only stumbled upon this because I find the German checker used
[SSCE] deeply lacking in helpfulness, it doesn't know many words,
has major trouble with word forms and seems to not know the basics
of German morphology. In short: it has much too much false
  positives.

Resultant question: Anything wrong with my Hunspell installation?

Bonus: If any programming resources could be freed up by scrapping
the German spell checker in favour of working on, say, Global
View Modes - RITLabs, do it.

Really? I mean, REALLY?

So, MAPI on XP doesn't work well if Outlook and ActiveSync are
necessary, but upgrading my whole system to W7 64 will not work
either? Worse, it would make TB completely useless?

If your existing 32-bit MAPI application is going to be running on a

Phew, good, I don't intend to run OL 64, my current 32-bit version is

Lots of true things in what you say. Unfortunately the official
release of v5 [as before with every other major official release
version] was so premature that the remaining [active] users of TB
might be a tad offended. Many have reported severe bugs, which are
still in a program version SOLD to unsuspecting folks.

We need not wade too deep into marketing waters to see that there is a
problem: finding a well-featured mail client which shows ghost
messages, crashes frequently, produces AVs and Exceptions regularly,
does not filter correctly ... in short, does not handle the basics of
a mail client is not persuasive to shell out money.

E-mail is increasingly shifting toward Web/cloud services, from
Facebook messages to Twitter, Web mailers like Google, smartphones. A
desktop client is not a necessity anymore, it is a luxury. I am still
on POP3 for essentially one reason, The Bat!, sadly the reasons I want
to use it dwindle as the very features I want to use don't do their
job.

I recommended TB for years to private and business contacts, without
them paying me to help with setting it up. It was for sheer
enthusiasm. Last year I was called in by a client to help set up his
new computer. I thought about recommending TB, setting it up, as I
think it would increase his productivity. Well, in a first round, for
historical reasons, we went with Thunderbird, which I find ... [put in
expletive of choice]. After a few months we decided to change to
Outlook ...

I cannot recommend TB! anymore because it does not enhance
productivity anymore. It hinders it. For instance, I have to start the
program two times when I run it the first time because some message
stays in the Mail Ticker although it is marked read and deleted. That
is not just annoying. And filters, and View Modes, the dreaded
TMailHandler Released Before ...

William Rivers Pitt, Truthout: So, yeah, Obama is in. The President of the
United States officially threw his hat into the 2012 election ring on Monday
morning, and the nation reacted with a resounding, 'Oh.' What a mess. It wasn't
even two and a half years ago. Can you believe it? Two and a half years ago,
there was a detonation of optimism that echoed across the country once the
returns were in on that November night. People took to the streets here in
Boston, literally banging pots and pans together as they danced and shouted in
celebration ... Hindsight, however, tells us today that much of that optimism
was wildly misplaced. The long shadow of George W. Bush still hung low and dark

Thom Hartmann, Berrett-Koehler Publishers: The East India Company set a
precedent that multinational corporations follow to this day: it lobbied for
laws that would enable it to easily put its small-business competitors out of
business. By 1681 most of the members of the British government and royalty
were stockholders in the East India Company, so it was easy that year to pass
'An Act for the restraining and punishing Privateers and Pirates.' This law
required a license to import anything into the Americas (among other

Henry A. Giroux, Truthout: As the spirit of a hypermilitarized America bleeds
into everyday life, politics increasingly becomes an extension of war, and
right-wing, liberal and conservative politicians eagerly embrace a militaristic
approach to policy and the need to cleanse the social order of any institution,
mode of dissent, social group and public sphere willing to question its state
of permanent war and its militarized and unchecked embrace of economic
Darwinism. These foreign and domestic wars are not unrelated, given that they
are waged in the interests of right-wing militarists, neoconservatives,
liberals and corporate moguls - all of whom have a political and economic stake
in such military incursions abroad and wars at home.
