I'm experiencing the same thing.
For some reason, I can only see old messages back to a certain date in
all folders, even though TB is set to display all messages in the message list.
Any suggestions as to which setting is responsible for that? I've looked
but can't find anything except the Display item in the View menu.

I have a total count per account. But you are right, there is no grand
total count which would include the common folders.
Create a dummy account and move your common folders to it.
