You save the templates by hitting the 'OK' button after you've
finished editing. All templates, including Quick templates, use the
same editor with the same buttons. Just hit 'OK' when you're done.

'Load template' option? Where is that? Or are you referring to the
'insert quick template' option?

You don't create templates via the message editor. There's a separate
template editor available.

If you right click any mail folder and select its properties, you'll
see tabs marked 'template', 'reply' and 'forward'. If you select any
of these you'll be presented a template editor in which you may
compose your template. When you're finished you hit the 'ok' button.

The same goes for address book templates and quick templates. When you
hit the 'add' button in quick templates, a template editor is opened
for you to create your template.

I invite you to read an overview on TB!'s template structure and
functionality on the TB! FAQ pages

Copying messages to multiple folders

2001-02-28 Thread Tony Owens

Hi TBUDL folks,

Is there a way to copy a new message to 2 or more folders? I
often send messages to customers and CC: to a colleague. I'd
like a filter to automatically copy the outgoing message to
both the customers folder and colleague's folder. (The
problem is that the outgoing filter only seems to allow a
move operation).

The only way that I can think of doing it is to move the message to
the folder and then have an additional action (Actions Tab) which
copies the message to another folder.

If copying to lots of folders is required, you could probably do this
by marking the outgoing message as a certain colour group and then
having multiple outgoing filters which are triggered by by that colour
group - just make sure that continue processing is checked in the
options tab.

Check the "Action" tab and there's an option allowing you make a
copy of the message to another folder. If more than two destination
folders are needed (e.g., if you want another copy in the Sent
folder as well), you'll need to set up additional filters. For all
but the last of those filters, set the destination to Outbox (i.e.,
don't move) and use only the "copy" action. Also remember to check
the "continue processing with other filters" option under the
"Option" tab.

 embarrassing results.

What would be wonderful would be a warning that alerts me when I'm
replying to a message where the From: and the Reply To: addresses
 aren't the same.

While I'm not against your suggestion, the problem can be easily
avoided by setting up filters for the mailing lists you subscribe to
and sort them into different folders. By doing so, private mail
won't be mixed with mailing list messages.

I notice that at the bottom of the Reply template window there's
an option that reads: "Do Not use From Name for Reply To address"

Is this my dreamed of feature- or if not, what does it do?

Unfortunately, no. When you post to a mailing list, your name is in
the "From" field, but the list's address is on the "Reply-To" field.
When I reply to you, TB would, by default, take the "name" from the
"From" field and the address from the "Reply-To" field. The result
is something like:

TO: "Nick Knisely" [EMAIL PROTECTED]

See? it's your name, but the list's address. It's nice since it
conveys who I'm replying to. Yet some people consider it confusing
(my address is not tbudl..., or my don't own the list, etc.), so TB
gives you the option to turn that off, hence the result would be

TO: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

PGP 7.0.3 and TB! 1.49

2001-02-28 Thread André Engelhardt

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello List,

sorry if this question has been answered before but I couldn't find
it in the archives and also didn't find any info about it elsewhere.

Does anyone happen to know if PGP Freeware 7.0.3. will work with TB!
1.49 or will I have to stick to 6.5.8 until an update for TB! is
released?

I wouldn't care if I wouldn't have heard somewhere that PGP 7
supports ICQ and since I communicate with many of my customers
through ICQ it
would be cool to be able to use PGP for making that more safe but I
wouldn't want to lose the TB! integration for PGP.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, 7.0.3 will work with TB! but not directly ie. only by signing the
window via PGP tray. Unfortunately the latest plugin to work with TB! is
6.5.x. This is one of the reasons I stepped back from 7.0.3 to ckt 6.5.8

TB! v1.49 - using EN international keyboard

2001-02-28 Thread Jan Rifkinson

Hello BatListers.

As I am frequently posting to Europe, I'd like to use extended
characters like the accented 'e' in cafe, etc. I've been
un-successful getting some characters from the extended character
set to work. Then I tried the EN International keyboard but I got
stuck using TB! ALT-L other shortcuts.

  Any ideas, anyone?

Although PGP 7.0.3 "Officially" does not support ICQ 2000b2, if you
create a User ID with your ICQ DIN, then you *can* use PGP 7.0.3 with
the latest beta of ICQ, but only through the single window messaging

This question is very simple one and related to TB!, of course :)

which, AFAIK, is proper in english, but why then RIT guys use

It depends on where you are: 's' is the British spelling, 'z' is the American.

Your spell checker has an American English dictionary.

which, AFAIK, is proper in english, but why then RIT guys use
  %oorganiSation and similar in templates?

They're apparently using a British English dictionary (or have been taught British
English.

IOW, both are correct

2001-02-28 Thread Dave Braze

Hello Lija,

It depends on where you hail from. The 's' forms of such words are the
traditional spellings. The 'z' spellings come from the reforms of the
American lexicographer, Noah Webster. Since the mid-19th century, the 'z'
forms are considered to be the standard for American-English. The 's' forms
continue to be standard in the British commonwealth generally, although I
believe that the American forms are gaining currency.

Yes, but I have "British English" selected in Spell Checker/Language,
and TB! still flags organisation and recommends organization? I must
have some kind of conflict with languages. Anyone with a suggestion as
to how I can rid my System of the American Dictionary, leaving only the

I don't think The Bat! will become a mainstream client since its
development seems to be headed towards facilitating the user with
advanced needs or those willing to automate their tasks and negotiate
the necessary learning curve required to master this.

Many, if not most people who use e-mail clients aren't interested in
advanced functionality. They just want something that works. They very
likely use one language, one identity and at most two signatures.
They're not interested in templates and what they have to offer. For
example, I showed my wife my templates in action and she was impressed
but although she uses TB! herself, she personally doesn't want to use
customised templates. Users without heavy requirements are often
confused and bogged down by the long menus and options. They therefore
find it harder to get at the few functions they wish to use. It's very
often that new users write, asking for an option that's very much
present in the menus, but was understandably overlooked.

TB! will certainly enjoy its loyal userbase and the size of this
userbase could be made larger with better documentation, but it's
simply unnecessarily complicated for many users who wish to do very
simple tasks. There are other clients that are free and a lot easier
to use. This is the beauty of choice and having a competitive market.

dcn Just thought I'd share my thoughts in the hopes that others would
dcn comment on where they think TB! is going. :) I hope it's an
dcn eventual case of the king (Eudora) is dead, long live the king
dcn (TB!)!

Why should Eudora die? IMO, they should both exist so that people will
be better able to find a client that serves their needs best. I'm
always squeamish about the whole concept of advocating an application
as one that everyone should use. This isn't a good approach since
we're all different in terms of taste, working style and needs. I'm
glad that you've found joy in using TB! and I know I certainly have.
I'm very willing to share my positive experiences and help interested
others in whatever way I can, but TB! cannot continue to be as good as
it is and yet at the same time, everyone who discovers it, loves it or
finds its design a godsend. AFAIK, no such application does or ever
will exist. I'll certainly endorse and assist in its promotion to make
others know about it and what it offers, but not to promote that
everyone should use it and down with the others.

For some of my lists that is the only way... Sometimes it is to the

I have yet to figure out why. :-(

For lists that do not set the Reply-to header, the reply is made out
to the sender. This is the reason some lists' templates have to be
created at the folder level. If you do that, you just have to be
careful, and get used to looking at the To field. I have around 4
lists that have folder level templates.

I suppose one could always stick %To='' at the top of every template
so that they'd be forced to type in the address manually (or use a
handle).

I just went with folder templates, and I try to be careful.

Play around with the three values. For me it helped to set ANSI from

Well, AFAIK, if particular language contains "odd" characters, you must
enable Multi-Language support for that language...

In my Serbian language, we have also Latin alphabet with following chars:

... and I must use ISO Latin2 (8859-2) to encode this message.

Also, our primary alphabet is Cyrillic, but there is no way (yet!) to encode
a message to display *both* Latin2 and Cyrillic :(
We just have to wait for "perfect Windows that fully support Unicode" and
use UTF-8 encoding, but, as I said, neither Win9x/ME nor TB! fully support
this... unfortunately! :(

So, as you can see, Windows is not perfect and TB! is not perfect :)
