Check the "Action" tab and there's an option allowing you make a copy of the message to another folder. If more than two destination folders are needed (e.g., if you want another copy in the Sent folder as well), you'll need to set up additional filters. While I'm not against your suggestion, the problem can be easily avoided by setting up filters for the mailing lists you subscribe to and sort them into different folders. By doing so, private mail won't be mixed with mailing list messages. I notice that at the bottom of the Reply template window there's an option that reads: "Do Not use From Name for Reply To address" Is this my dreamed of feature- or if not, what does it do? Unfortunately, no. When you post to a mailing list, your name is in the "From" field, but the list's address is on the "Reply-To" field. When I reply to you, TB would, by default, take the "name" from the "From" field and the address from the "Reply-To" field. The result is something like: TO: "Nick Knisely" [EMAIL PROTECTED] See? it's your name, but the list's address. It's nice since it conveys who I'm replying to. Yet some people consider it confusing (my address is not tbudl..., or my don't own the list, etc.), so TB gives you the option to turn that off, hence the result would be TO: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Best regards, Ming-Li The Bat! 1.51 Beta/1 | Win2k SP1 -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

TB! a missed opportunity?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, I'm very new to TB! and I am very impressed with the program so far, especially the Templates and Filters. I'm just about getting a handle on the Templates Filters's now after much reading of this groups' posts (and of course PGP-Basics) and some excellent support from many of their loyal users. I particularly love the PGP integration in TB! something I struggled with in my long standing installation of Eudora. ;) I can't help but think though, that despite the many advantages TB! has over the likes of Eudora, an opportunity is being missed. I believe that this excellent program is being let down by its' documentation or lack of it. It seems that TB! may never be the 'giant' it could and should be until this problem is addressed. Many of my friends and colleagues use Eudora, or dare I say it, Outlook Express! One of the reasons for this is of course ease of use (generally) and the fact that many of them don't have the time or the patience to go through the gradual learning process to become somewhat proficient with TB! This may mean that TB! may, unfortunately never become the mainstream mail client that it deserves to be and this in my opinion at least,is a real shame. Just thought I'd share my thoughts in the hopes that others would comment on where they think TB! is going. :) I hope it's an eventual case of the king (Eudora) is dead, long live the king (TB!)! Re: proper english or not?
Hello Lija, It depends on where you hail from. The 's' forms of such words are the traditional spellings. The 'z' spellings come from the reforms of the American lexicographer, Noah Webster. Since the mid-19th century, the 'z' forms are considered to be the standard for American-English. The 's' forms continue to be standard in the British commonwealth generally, although I believe that the American forms are gaining currency. I don't think The Bat! will become a mainstream client since its development seems to be headed towards facilitating the user with advanced needs or those willing to automate their tasks and negotiate the necessary learning curve required to master this. Many, if not most people who use e-mail clients aren't interested in advanced functionality. They just want something that works. They very likely use one language, one identity and at most two signatures. They're not interested in templates and what they have to offer. For example, I showed my wife my templates in action and she was impressed but although she uses TB! herself, she personally doesn't want to use customised templates. Users without heavy requirements are often confused and bogged down by the long menus and options. They therefore find it harder to get at the few functions they wish to use. It's very often that new users write, asking for an option that's very much present in the menus, but was understandably overlooked. TB! will certainly enjoy its loyal userbase and the size of this userbase could be made larger with better documentation, but it's simply unnecessarily complicated for many users who wish to do very simple tasks. There are other clients that are free and a lot easier to use. This is the beauty of choice and having a competitive market. dcn Just thought I'd share my thoughts in the hopes that others would dcn comment on where they think TB! is going. :) I hope it's an dcn eventual case of the king (Eudora) is dead, long live the king dcn (TB!)! Why should Eudora die? IMO, they should both exist so that people will be better able to find a client that serves their needs best. I'm always squeamish about the whole concept of advocating an application as one that everyone should use. This isn't a good approach since we're all different in terms of taste, working style and needs. I'm glad that you've found joy in using TB! and I know I certainly have. I'm very willing to share my positive experiences and help interested others in whatever way I can, but TB! cannot continue to be as good as it is and yet at the same time, everyone who discovers it, loves it or finds its design a godsend. AFAIK, no such application does or ever will exist. I'll certainly endorse and assist in its promotion to make others know about it and what it offers, but not to promote that everyone should use it and down with the others. - -- - Allie - ~~~ A. Re[2]: TB! v1.49 - using EN international keyboard
Hello Chema, Thanks for your response to my post. On Wednesday, February 28, 2001 00:58:45 [ +0100 GMT], you wrote the following in regards to 'TB! v1.49 - using EN international keyboard': Chema I must select "none" as Character Set while working with my Spanish Chema national keyboard if i want accented characters to be displayed Chema correctly by spanish readers. Chema I'd never tried to send national characters to english readers cause i Chema usually write in (my very poor) english to english readers. Chema I include a set of national chars just for testing. Chema Yes I can read these characters but I don't understand what you mean by select 'none'. And, by the way, your English is just fine. I appreciate your help. Thanks. Well, AFAIK, if particular language contains "odd" characters, you must enable Multi-Language support for that language... In my Serbian language, we have also Latin alphabet with following chars: ... and I must use ISO Latin2 (8859-2) to encode this message. Also, our primary alphabet is Cyrillic, but there is no way (yet!) to encode a message to display *both* Latin2 and Cyrillic :( We just have to wait for "perfect Windows that fully support Unicode" and use UTF-8 encoding, but, as I said, neither Win9x/ME nor TB! fully support this... unfortunately! :( So, as you can see, Windows is not perfect and TB! is not perfect :) -- Sincerely, Lija Using The Bat! v1.51 Beta/1 on Windows 95 4.0 Build B -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
