Hello,
Thanks for the responce.
I installed with rpm -i
I did not get any errors during install.
I see the files in the directory, so that part worked
There is no log file created as fra as I can see.
Maybe I should try it again, or are there any suggestions I should
try.

Right - I have since successfully installed Slimserver 6.5.1 from the
Slimserver deb repository, and it is running ok. However, I still have
no ogg support. I don't seem to be able to get anything sensible out of
the debugging options, either. All I do seem to be able to find out, is
that it

Historically I've compiled slimserver from source. Then many moons ago,
when 6.3 was current, I rashly decided to install via apt. Unfortunately
the apt package was 6.5, which at that time was highly unstable. Fingers
burned!
Yesterday I installed Feisty,
Jim,
apt-get has always worked for me on Edgy with no problems. I have just
recently updated to Feisty and on the one try that I had with apt-get
since then it worked but reported that I already had the latest version
so did not actually update anything.
I just issue apt-get update apt-get

Hi everyone.
I've set up my Ubuntu 6.10 box with Slimserver. I also want to have it
so that when it is idle, it will sleep (as opposed to hibernate). I'm
thinking after 15 minutes idle, say.
So, I know how to set this (icon top right hand of screen) and it
dutifully goes off to sleep (doesn't
You could try Kshutdown. Not a fix, but it might do what you want. I
don't know whether you need to be running kde for this to work.

There's a problem with a couple of the perl libraries in the repos - a
workaround is documented in the slimserver wiki (somewhere). You have
to go back to the dapper repos to get them, then all is OK.

Not as enamoured with Ubuntu today.
I upgraded to Feisty and while there are some nice things:
1. fstab is screwed up. Neither of my optical drives work now. If I
boot into the 2.6.17 kernel I can get my DVD-ROM to work.
2. Album Cover Art Downloader no longer runs.

Hi all,
I have asked about this before in this forum with no answers.
I will try again since it is still an issue.
I can save playlists to the /var/db/slimserver/playlists folder and
verify their existance manually. They are all created in the folder
correctly.
However when I try to browse

fstab is important for mounting discs, but they don't need to be mounted
in order to rip audio. So there may be a different problem (eg kernel is
misconfigured). It's probably worth trying to rip with cdparanoia (as a
command-line tool) to trouble-shoot.
Given that this is a totally new problem
I can't seem to find a user slimserver or maybe it's there and I
don't know how to find it. I can find groups but not users.
Run ps aux to see who's the owner of the slimserver process.
