Just never use a word processor that can't open international standard file

I just tried to import some macros I wrote in Windows XP long ago. Since I
don't use Windows any more, even though I still have it installed, I wanted
to use my old Basic macros in OpenOffice.org for Linux (Ubuntu 7.04 in my
case).
Here's what I did:

Exactly what did you do and exactly what happened? Often when using Save As,
you want to change the spreadsheet's name or file type. What
nails with screwdrivers is not a good idea, even if Calc is made 100 times
faster than today.

About the TOC, I did some work with a friend a while ago. I used
OpenOffice.org Writer and he used Word. I did most of the writing and I also
did the TOC thing. To be compatible with Word (since those who would read
our document only had Word) I tried to export the whole thing to Word.
However,
Windows XP or Ubuntu, the line thickness
was in inches. Everything else in millimeters as it should (since I set it
to millimeters).
Bug? Or is there another parameter to set that I couldn't find? I could also
