[VFB] off topic Discount at Lowes or Vets...

2019-08-06 Thread Chuck Alexander
Folks: I just found out this week that on in store purchases, Lowes gives
active duty and Vets 10% off most every thing in the store it said. You'd
have to call your local store to se if they need a copy of your DD14 or
what, but 10% is 10% right??? Chuck

Yes. In fact, I have a number of rolling pins that I made myself.
Including an ornamental huge pin made out of figured maple. I have a
french pin in maple and a long straight pin (no handles) in lacewood, as
well as a couple smaller ones. The only one that gets used on a regular

and #2 would you buy one

Well, obviously, no, since I make my own, but if I didn't have a lathe,
yes I would certainly buy one or more rolling pins. But then, I do a
fair amount of baking, and a whole lot of cooking...

if the price were right (probably $20 each
Actually, I think a good rolling pin, made out of nice wood, could fetch
more than that.

poplar
Oak, given its porous nature, would be a bad choice for a rolling pin, I
would think, as would poplar (soft, porous, too light). I would favour
the standards like maple, beech, or walnut.

Another nice little thingie that you can make on the lathe, that would
be perfect to sell at an 'introductory' price level is a 'spurtle'
(google that ;-) ), preferably with the traditional stylized Scottish
thistlehead on top. A few burned rings at the 'grip' section would give
'em character.

[VFB] OFF TOPIC/ Got a New P. T. Cruiser today

2014-11-24 Thread Chuck Alexander
Folks: Got us a new (new to us anyway) P. T. Cruiser that is EXACTLY like the
old on in color and differs in that it’s a 2007 vs the old one was a 2004.
Same color, same “limited, touring edition” with all the extra bells and
whistles etc. And this one only has 84,000 miles whereas we had the old one up
to 141,000. So, it’s three years newer and the interior and exterior is in
better condition than the old one (I’ll post a few small pics tomorrow. This
car is a NON turbo (but we are glad of that as it has PLENTY of power, yet a
bad turbo cost $1200 plus labor to replace) but will save about $1500 if the
turbo ever went bad. It

More good news is we got our payments the same, but got a 24 month or 24,000
mile warranty with tis one that covers EVERYTHING that a new car warranty
covers and more as it don’t just cover the drive train, but all other things
like the starter, alternator, AC compressor and other parts all electrical
components , radiator, AC condenser, power steering pump, power brake booster,
catalytic converter, O2 sensor, and just a whole list of other things. Only
things it don’t cover is the oil changes and brake disc pads and other fluids.
And we were going to have to have the AC compressor replaced on the old one
before next Summer, but this one will freeze you out of the car. As far as
everything working, EVERYTHING works on it that we checked and it purrs like
the proverbial kitten. Has brand new tires all the way around, new brake pads
etc.

We also got a “gap” insurance that protects us against the very thing that
caught us off guard on the old one, meaning that say we owe $5,000, but the
insurance company says they’ll only pay off $4,000 in case of a crash, the “gap
policy” covers that $1,000 difference, which is great as any car, new or used
devalues as soon as you drive it off the lot. Anyway, all in all, we’re pretty
happen to have wheels under our butts again LOL...Sorry for venting so much
about all this car business lately, but now maybe we can get back to business
as usual, barring any deer crossing and running into the car LOL. We also
test drove a Ford Extended cap pick em up truck, but it was a 2002, and had
over 100,000 miles, pulled to the right, had a tiny skip and a few things like
that and the LAST thing I wanted to do is get a car or truck that the first
thing I have to do it to work on it. Had enough knuckle busting since I was
about five yrs old and started helping Daddy work on cars, then became a
mechanic in the Air Force and have always done the work on all my cars all my
life basically. Getting too old for that stuff. Chuck

Joyce: Yeah, looks like that’s all we can do now. My daughter’s friend works at
the car dealership we are going to talk to next week and he told me tonight
they had a LOT to choose from, and they also go to the auction twice a week, so
if they don’t have anything we like, we can request that they BOLO for one. I’d
still like to have a Jeep, or a pickup with 4WD like we were hunting when we
bought the Cruiser, so maybe it will all work out for the good in the end
because I have a cpl of GREAT places I could fish IF I had 4WD. Gotta take
back the 2014 Camaro SS the insurance company rented for us tomorrow, so that’s
losing our only ride right now, so we have to find another car soon as it’s
ten miles to the nearest town LOL..The Camaro looks great and is VERY fast, but
rides rough as a cob. I think they made them, and Corvettes for looks, not
comfort. Chuck

college for welding back in the early ‘80’s, and if I had had the car paid off
that’s exactly what I would have done. Problem now is the state and red tape.
There is only three (and none are close by) state inspectors who can inspect
the car and re-issue a “totalled title” or whatever exactly it’s called, and I
could take a $3300 settlement (but I still owe $4700), then I could have the

you to buy full coverage insurance on a previously “totalled” car, which my
bank would still require as I’d still owe them the difference between the $3300
and the $4700 payoff, and I talked to them and they won’t do it. But, they did
tell me they are going to accept the $4300 the insurance company as “paid in
full” and also give us a loan at a cheaper rate on another car. So, it looks
like a triple “catch 22”, so I guess we’ll have to just “cut our loses” and get
another car. maybe I can find a club cab pick em up truck I really did want

Alan: Thanks. See my "rant" answer to Joyce. Its sad, but right now, unless
I had a TON of money, I couldn't even fix it myself, which I COULD do, and
still get a title re-issued. The insurance company transferred the money to
the loan company WITHOUT us even knowing about it till AFTER the fact. I
LOVE living in Alabama, but am finding out they have the worst car insurance
laws in the country, if not the world. As of yesterday the car belongs to
Progressive, and they want me to give them $3900 for it "as is". (The Kelly
blue book, even though it was in mint condition, and Limited edition is only
$4400 or so) That's a crock and a half. Yet they'll end up selling it to
some junk yard for a cpl HUNDRED bucks. I'm finding out that in my state, if
you don’t have a lien free title to your car (or house) you REALLY do NOT
own your car and/or house etc. which is why the "little guy" will never get
ahead. The Rolling Stones had a song yrs ago called "Under My Thumb" and
that's just how the state laws and insurance lobby have us "peons" here I
guess. If I were rich, I could probably hire a lawyer and get it "right",
but that's not going to happen. Chuck

Please ask the insurance co. If they will sell it back to you.
That way you don't have to pay a markup to the junk yard.
It doesn't have to be towed away or towed back to you.
You should be able to find someone that will rebuild it for you at a cheaper

Re: [VFB] OFF TOPIC. My Baby got crashed into by a deer

2014-11-12 Thread Chuck Alexander
(First off, if anybody don’t wanna read an off topic rant by me about the
insurance “scam” please just save your time and hit the “delete” button now.)

Joyce: Alabama must have some weird laws because this is the first claim I have
ever submitted in this state. In FL, they (the insurance company) has the car
owner to go to three garages, get estimates, then, unless that garage has some
bad reports through the BBB etc, they are the ones who do get the job. I even
told the insurance company that I could actually fix te car myself, using that
very method of going to the junkyard near me that I know had several PT
cruisers, and even three in the same silver color etc, and fix it myself.

Bottom line was that YES, I could do that IF I had the cash in hand to pay off
the car in total which I do not, so it becomes a mute point. And, like I said,
even if I fixed it perfectly (I have a friend who does paint and body and even
has a frame straightener if need be) who said he’d help me, in order to
re-title it, I’d have to get one of the three state inspectors to check it out
and re-issue a “totalled tag” or whatever they call it and even then, my
insurance guy, who is an independent agent (not Progressive, which is the
underwriter on the policy and the ones I feel ripped me off) told me that for
whatever reason, very seldom do those inspectors re-issue titles.

Probably has something to do with the politics of the insurance lobby or
something like that. Bottom line is, even though I could get a loan to do it
myself, If the guy did NOT re-issue a title, I’d get a ticket every time I
turned around because #1, I couldn’t gets tags because #2 I couldn’t get it
insured, which is required to get the tags and it I would end up owing a cpl
thousand bucks for a cpl thousand pounds of “scrap iron” worth a cpl HUNDRED
bucks, then I’d still have to find another car and owe for that loan as well.
Sad huh???

We have called s many ppl the past cpl days about this, including the
state insurance auditor’s office (I think that is his title) in Montgomery and
we cannot seem to win for losing. The insurance company’s ALWAYS win. I know
because I used to sell life insurance in another lifetime and they base their
actuary tables for example, not on what MIGHT happen, but what HAS happened in
past yrs, so the game is rigged against us “consumers” from the get go. I do
intend to burn the ears of my state senator and congressman because in this
case, it’s the state, not the insurance company that made these goofy rules,
although I’m sure they had help in the legislature via the insurance lobbyist
money to make these laws. You know how politics work. Makes me sick when I see
all the TV ads by insurance companies talking about how great they are and then
when you file a claim they run and hide. get this. I asked the Progressive guy
yesterday point blank “This is a no fault claim, and my first and only claim
with you guys ever, yet after this is said and done, you will either increase
our rates of refuse to insure us again right ??” His one word answer was
YES!!

So, if anybody here has Progressive as their underwriter, this is what you have
to look forward too, after paying them THOUSANDS in premiums in the ten YEARS
we have had them should you need to file a claim, then you’ll see what they do
to your rates/policy after the claim. Course this is NOT just Progressive. This
happens with all companies at times. At this point, we’re just thankful our
son wasn’t injured or killed by the deer as we can always find another car and
chalk it up to experience gained the hard way. Sorry for the BOOK here, but I
am just venting some of my frustrations with the whole mess. That’s the kindest
word I can think of to call it LOL.. Chuck

7 more years and the cost was very minimal. I talked with my insurance company
(State Farm) and they were very willing to do this rather than total the car.
The cost was about 1/3 what the new parts and labor would have cost and the
labor was minimal by comparison. Don't know if this will help. Joyce

Joyce: Thanks. We do in fact have one nearby as I went to that same community
college for welding back in the early ‘80’s, and if I had had the car paid off
that’s exactly what I would have done. Problem now is the state and red tape.
There is only three (and none are close by) state inspectors who can inspect
the car and re-issue a “totalled title” or whatever exactly it’s called, and I
could take a $3300 settlement (but I still owe $4700), then I could have the
car back, then pay the college for all the parts (about $1000-1500 I suspect),
let them repair it, but here it the “hitch”.

Then, after all that time, money, effort, there is no guarantee that the
inspector will issue a new title and eve if he did, the state will NOT allow
you to buy full coverage insurance on a previously “totalled” car, which my
bank would still require as I’d still owe them the difference between the $3300
and the $4700 payoff, and I talked to them and they won’t do it. But, they did
tell me they are going to accept the $4300 the insurance company as “paid in
full” and also give us a loan at a cheaper rate on another car. So, it looks
like a triple “catch 22”, so I guess we’ll have to just “cut our loses” and get
another car. maybe I can find a club cab pick em up truck I really did want
when I bout the car.. That would be the only “silver lining” I think. Thanks
for bringing this up though, because like I said, had it been paid off, it
would be a great idea and somebody else here might find themselves in a similar
situation sometime, Chuck

Chuck, regarding your deer smashed car, as new as it is, also check if you have
a state college with an autobody class in your area. Very often students will
rebuild your car if you pay parts and the small cost of the class tuition,
Better yet, you can see if they have a repair your own car class at the
college/university. This is what my sister and I did when the deer smashed her
car. The cost for "senior" students here in a once a week after hours class was
30 dollars tuition and a 1 time fee of 100 dollars for their state of the art
paint booth. We have restored her 1959 IH truck and my 1982 Datsun diesel by
doing it ourselves. The instructors were excellent and the cost was
minimal..mostly time and, of course, the paint which is pricey. It tooks us
several years to do both vehicles (we did her car, her truck and my truck
first, and finished up repairing a bad bondo job on her current car fender that
we recognized after she had her used car for several years. If you do it
yourself, you will know it is done right. Buy it back if you can and fix it
yourself if you can..it was a fun and rewarding expeirence. Just a thought.

Please ask the insurance co. If they will sell it back to you.
That way you don't have to pay a markup to the junk yard.
It doesn't have to be towed away or towed back to you.
You should be able to find someone that will rebuild it for you at a cheaper
rate then is charged to the insurance co. Perhaps if

You go to a body shop and see if one of the workers will do it after hours or
on the weekend?

[VFB] OFF TOPIC The car rental place thinks I'm having a midlife crises LOL

2014-11-07 Thread Chuck Alexander
The car rental place must think I’m going through a midlife crisis LOL.. The
body shop/garage came today and towed my car to be fixed, and when I get up to
the loaner place, guess what they give me?? a 2014 Camaro SS LOL...I “putt
putt” around as it is like the old Paw Paw that I am, and they stick a car with
375-400 hp under me. Gotta admit I wanted to run it down to the Talladega
superspeedway like I would have REALLY wanted to do in my younger days when I
did race across the street from the big track there at the Talladega short
track, which is a 1/4 mile dirt track, (and all I ran there was a little 4
cylinder Ford Pinto in the “pony” division, but I doubt the car rental place
would want me bringing back their all white hot rod back all clay covered and
banged up..

I know one thing, even if I had 35-40 grand or so to plunk down on a Camaro, I
would NOT buy one, because the only rougher riding car I have ever ridden in
was a 1974 Vette that my boss owned back in the early 80’s, and you feel EVERY
single bump. Seems they make these type cars for looks and not for comfort. My
PT Cruiser is like riding on air compared to the Camaro. At those prices, you’d

Re: [VFB] OFF TOPIC. My Baby got crashed into by a deer

2014-11-06 Thread Chuck Alexander
Reuven: That's normally how the big buck deer do it here. If my son had been
going full speed that tin can of a car would have been history. A Kaangaroo
might get hot by the car though, then turn around and kick the car as well
LOL..How big do those things get (weight) anyway?? Chuck

A deer is nothing compared to totalling a car with a kangaroo. They are
solid muscle, and will hop away after totalling a car.

Thankfully, my son was shaken up, but not injured.

Thank God. We had a similar incident here in the county a few years ago
that was fatal. The buck's hind legs came through the windshield on the
driver's side. One hoof went through the young man's chest and through
his heart.

I'm really glad your son had the alertness to slow down.

Re: [VFB] OFF TOPIC Amish style electric heater ??

2014-11-06 Thread Chuck Alexander
Don: Thanks, I think we’ll get a cpl of those as like I said, around here now
Propane is well about $3 per gallon, while our electric cost is only about 7
cents per killowatt hour so it came out cheaper last year. We do like having
the propane as a backup because when winter storms knock out the power, at
least we’re not totally “in the cold”. . Chuck

Chuck,
Same here. Keep the house heater low and use the Edenpure (what I have) to heat
the room you are staying in. Very quiet and safe.
Love mine, and it has a remote control- don’t even have to get up to turn it up
or down. And I sit in my leather recliner with my back against a heating pad on
the lowest setting, with a small down comforter over me while we watch TV.
Cheryl does the same thing. Therapy, warmth, and entertainment, and not using
much juice.

I have and use an Edenpure upstairs and a Duraflame downstairs in the tying
room (I'm cold blooded). I find them equally useful and they both work well.
They are safe, heat well and you would be amazed at how long the room remains
warm after you turn them off as they do, indeed, radiate heat from the core.
I'd recommend either of them as being very efficient. I find it is cheaper to
use the heaters with the furnace turned low as a background and just heat the
room in which I currently reside. I think you'd like them as well. Joyce

Re: [VFB] OFF TOPIC Amish style electric heater ??

2014-11-05 Thread Joyce M Westphal
I have and use an Edenpure upstairs and a Duraflame downstairs in the
tying room (I'm cold blooded). I find them equally useful and they both
work well. They are safe, heat well and you would be amazed at how long the
room remains warm after you turn them off as they do, indeed, radiate heat
from the core. I'd recommend either of them as being very efficient. I find
it is cheaper to use the heaters with the furnace turned low as a
background and just heat the room in which I currently reside. I think
you'd like them as well. Joyce

[VFB] OFF TOPIC Amish style electric heater ??

2014-11-05 Thread Chuck Alexander
Folks: I know this is way off topic, but I have a question to anybody who may
have used the “Amish Style” electric heaters. #1, they are mostly in a wooden
frame, yet the info on them says that that part stays cool to the touch?? Are
they really “safe” if they have a wooden frame?? I do understand that the inner
frame is metal but still. #2, the literature on all of them says they heat an
area up to 1000 sq. ft. I cannot see how this can be possible for a little
heater like these??? I also read that they are the most efficient type (being
that they are infrared type and heat the OBJECTS in the room, and not the total
volume of air as well) heaters on the market??

We now use (in addition to liquid propane) the oil filled “radiator” style
heaters and I have read that they are the most efficient type heaters??? I do
like the safety of the oil filled type as they do not, like old fashioned
electric space heaters, have an open element that can be VERY dangerous and we
would NEVER go to sleep with one of those type running. Thanks for any help on
this subject. You can contact me OFF list. Thanks, Chuck

In that case, Peggy, I would have to say TAKE ALL THE PILLS YOU CAN -

But in reality, I pretty well agree. Sometimes there is a "pill" that
you really need to take. Otherwise, try to maintain a healthy diet
combined with a good exercise program and healthy eating and you won't
need the "pills". Or at least will need a nimimum number of "pills".

there is a small percentage of folks who can not use artificial

These are not things you want to happen when fishing, which when wading

Don't take pills, exercise and diet is the key. Pills just support

Re: [VFB] Off Topic Diabetic ??? Chuck, Allan

2013-10-12 Thread Chuck Alexander
I thought Stevia was OK. We started using it to sweeten tea a long time ago.
At first it was kinda weird, but after about a week, it was just like sugar.
Stevia also has a ton of fiber in it. Chuck

I use stevia in anything I want sweet. I have the powdered and liquid. Not
sugar, but it's better than nothing.

I eat lots of 'carbs'. Funny thing is that true carbohydrates may or may not
count as diet 'carbs'.
My choices are carbs/lean-meats/non-starchy veggies/fats/free items. If I
don't eat enough carbs, I go low-glucose. But to lose weight and keep the
calories low compared to fat-burning foods, I stay mostly away from white
bread, pastas, and fried foods.

So fruit is a 'carb', same as pasta or mashed potatoes. It's just how they
count it as fuel to be burned as a sugar would, to balance the insulin used.
My diet is a 2000 cal/day total, and that amounts to more roughage than I
normally eat. But I really miss my curried chicken wings. *Sniff* {:o(

I've lost 10# over the last 3 weeks and everything says I should be gaining
weight. Must be the exercise.

Thanks for the clarification, Nev. I spoke from the very limited understanding

Hi Allan:

Actually that is not quite so. Carbohydrates are turned into sugar/glucose by

I have to count or estimate the number of carbohydrates that I consume at meals

There is a product called FruitSweet. Is a cold evaporated fruit blend.
Generally, one serving is a fruit exchange. I use this product at work for
desserts. I would most definitely check with your doctor before using as it is
fructose. Our membership loves the desserts made with. Even the ones who hate
foods made with the other sweetners.

Can Diabetics use Stevia as a sweetener??? We stopped using it as it’s pretty
expensive, but I’d hate to have to ever give up my sweet tea LOL. When we put
it in tea, about three days later, it tasted just the same as refined sugar to
us. I’m not sure which planting regions it will grow in, but you can buy either
seeds or cuttings online. I forget which. Chuck

[VFB] Off Topic Help Needed

2012-02-02 Thread Robert Morger
Hey guys my house was hit by a bolt of lightening a week ago and it
blew out most of the electronics in the house. Everyone was ok but it
really screwed up a few locations around the house. Luckily there was
no fire associated with the strike that I could not get out
immediately. Very rude awakening at 4 in the morning. We have visited
with insurance and are starting to pick up the pieces and replace some
of the items that were destroyed.

Does anyone know much about antenna systems? I need to replace the old
system but don't have much of a clue on what I need and how to set it
up.
I do know it had a rotator control, pre-amp and a uhf-vhf fringe
antenna. Anyway if you can help me in any way please drop me a line
off list probably would be best unless others want to learn the
benefits of off air systems B^)

FISHING?TYING RELATED: I did find where my wife hid my flies for the
Thunder Creek Swap that morning so I should be able to get them out as
soon as I have tagged them and found a envelope to send them.

Actually, I used the milk when I made the soup, and it tasted great. I figured
a stick of butter was enough fat. This recipe makes three quarts, so thats
only a 1/3 tablespoon of butter per cup of soup, around 40 fat calories.
Everything else is healthy, healthy. Make it and enjoy!

My wife hasn't divorced me yet, and judging by the way I have seen people die,
a heart attack isn't a bad way to go, especially if you get the timing
right...say the day before they decide to stick you in the nursing home...

OK you guys, this is a recipe for hot tomato soup to enjoy after a day of
fishing (as temperatures cool). I want to share it somewhere, and I have no
plans of EVER joining a recipe sharing site.

I have had an abundance of tomatoes, and have been looking for ways to use
them up, so I have been experimenting with various recipes for tomato soup.
None tasted like I wanted till this one, which is a blending of the good
ideas from all of the others. Delete or enjoy:

Tom's Roasted Tomato/Basil Onion Rue Cream of Tomato Soup. (Tom Soup)

Ingredients:

1 (8 tablespoon stick) of butter, melted .

1 medium onion, diced

1 garlic clove

Handful of fresh basil (or dry basil, to taste)

1 cup cooking sherry (or the real thing if you have it)

74 oz of fresh tomatoes (or same amount of canned tomatoes if fresh isn't
available)

3 tablespoons chicken soup base (this is a paste sold in a jar)

3 tablespoons brown sugar

3 bay leaves

salt, white or black pepper to taste (taste before seasoning, some of the
other ingredients already are salted)

1-1/2 cup whole milk, OR half and half, OR cream (depending on whether your
wife is watching).

Instructions:

Fire up the grill, and lay the tomatoes on, and roast over medium heat. If
using canned tomatoes, you can get a similar result by draining the liquid
(set it aside and add back later) then broiling the tomatoes under the
broiler.

While the tomatoes are roasting, melt butter, and add onion, garlic, basil
and sherry. Cook until onions are transparent, then pour all of the
ingredients into your blender, and blend until smooth. Add back to pan, and
bring to a simmer. Add flour whisking constantly. It will thicken right
up. Move off the heat.

Put roasted tomatoes into your blender, and blend until smooth, then add to
rue. Stir it all up until blended. Now add sugar and season to taste
(canned tomatoes, chicken base, and cooking sherry all have a bunch of salt,
so taste it first before adding salt). NOTE The sugar is very important,
if you taste it as you add it you will notice how it brings out flavor. Use
more or less to taste.

Last, add milk or cream. (Reheat the soup, but don't boil it after milk is
added)

Garnish with your favorite garnish (chopped fresh basil or parsley, parmesan
cheese are all good) and serve with your favorite fish.

Enjoy!

This is off-topic, so if you want to kick me out...do so.

I would appreciate prayers for my daughter, Penny Abell.
She's going in for an MRI on Thursday to see if her brain
tumor is beginning to recur or if the chemo is keeping
it in remission.

Thanks.

Guys, you can see Jupiter and 4 of its moons tonight with binoculars.

Go 8:00 SW of the moon until you see a big 'star'. That Jupiter, over 300
million miles away.

It should look awesome as it sets on the western horizon tomorrow morning.

Not fishing related, but still cool... No wait. One of its moons has ice.
We might fish there some day with ice-dub flies.

[VFB] OFF TOPIC- Great Parts Sites

2010-01-12 Thread Chuck Alexander
Folks: This is a little off topic, specially for the flishing sites, but this
place has parts that we ALL need from time to time, and have great prices as
well. My Delta 10" table saw has a bad switch (stays ON all the time, which is
lucky cause I can still use it long as I have a helper to unplug it LOL), and
the "wheel" that raises the blade up and down it stripped. Well, they have that
switch for only $5.21 and the wheel for only $1.05. And priority mail for
those are only $5.70. They also have great "how to" articles for different tool
repairs around the house... Anyway, just thought a lot of ppl would like to see
the site, Chuck

RE: [VFB] OFF TOPIC.. I need to do some trading

2009-12-17 Thread J Balmer
There are a number of kinds of routers. Hughes Net, or any other service
provider, usually includes a router to connect @ least one computer to their
network. Many of those routers will have wireless capability built in. The
first thing you should do is contact them to see if:

The router you already have has that capability, or

They would provide one that does.

If your existing router doesn't have the capacity to do so, you'll need a
router to connect to the broadband router that has Cat5 ports as well as
having a wireless antenna. We're talking a $20-60 piece of equipment. Give
me a little more information on what you have & how you want to use it.

[VFB] OFF TOPIC.. I need to do some trading

2009-12-16 Thread chuckalexander
Folks: I'm sorry that this is OFF TOPIC, but I need help. I must have been a
good little boy this year because I found out today that my wife is getting me
a laptop for Christmas. But, I need a router for it. Now, if somebody has one
they are not using and could use some furled leaders, a book or two on fly
tying, some hooks, or other materials I have a l;ot of, like deer hair, I'd be
glad to trade. My son says the routers are generic, but I'm not so sure about
that so I need help in that dept too. My provider is Hughes Net, so If anybody
could help, I'd be forever beholden. Thanks a LOT, Chuck

[VFB] OFF-TOPIC

2009-01-07 Thread Allan Fish

I talked to Tony Spezio a little bit ago. He's back home after a
two-day stint in the hospital after a minor stroke.

He's doing pretty well now, but keep him in your prayers.

Allan

p.s.: I got his permission before sending this note.

[VFB] Off-topic, but a moral

2008-12-23 Thread Allan Fish

Condensed version. I had a little heaviness in my chest Sunday
morning. It got worse. Got hauled off to the heart hospital. I had
a clog. Heart Cath. got it repaired and I got back home yesterday.
No heart attack - caught it in time.

Moral to the story: If you feel ANYTHING a little squirrely going on
in your chest and think there MIGHT be something going on, get into
the E.R. immediately. Do NOT wait till you have a heart attack and
get heart damage.

Far better to find that it was a false alarm than to find that oops -
I shoulda come in earlier.

Merry Christmas, Happy Channukah, and wonderful holidays to all

Allan
