Is that comparing 3ivx to mpeg4 from isquint or h264 from isquint? Its not bad at both, but Id agree that 3ivx is a very nice mpeg4 encoder, its hard to beat it for mpeg 4 quality when the right settings are used. Were you using the isquint startup defaults or did you stick the quality option up?

Its a good strategy but Im not sure whether this option gives you mpeg4 files or h264 files? In the past it was possible to get a mpeg4 file that works on both the ipod and PSP, but h264 more problematic (because PSP uses h264 main profile and ipod uses baseline h264 profile). ffmpegX recently add
