Re: ===SPAM=== [videoblogging] 3gp converter

2006-05-22 Thread Adrian Miles

around the 21/5/06 deepanjan_nag_123 mentioned about ===SPAM===
[videoblogging] 3gp converter that:
Hi! I have a Nokia 6681 and use it sometimes to shoot videos. The
videos are in the 3gpp format. I would like to upload my mobile videos
to Youtube, but Youtube doesn't support the 3gp format. There are some
file format converters but they are all commercial products and do not
allow me to convert videos of length greater than 5 mons.
Are you folks aware of any free or opensource video format converter
that'll help convert my 3gp files into one of the accepted Youtube
formats?

no but qt pro will do it.

there should not be free ones that do it because 3pg is part of mpeg4
which is an open but not free standard (it requires licencing to use)

[videoblogging] Re: MissleBlast vs. RocketBoom

2006-05-22 Thread Casey McKinnon

It's the mirror universe RocketBoom... wrong in so many ways. It's
not badly made but they've gone about publicizing their show in a
completely different way. They're YouTube/MySpace whores (and that's
not an insult... just an observation).

I've actually been watching the show regularly simply out of
curiousity... I'm not a big fan, but it's an intersting concept to
follow; a blatent ripoff.

Although I, personally, am not drawn in by the charm of Ms. Melankey,
my friend Vince is smitten...

I have a feeling these guys are here to stay... the only problem is
that the audience demographic is so different to Rocketboom that I'm
not sure how advertizers feel about the copycat nature of the show.

Only time will tell... as it will with all of us...

It's 4:26am and I'm still up editing with Rudy,

[videoblogging] Legal Question, I think..........

2006-05-22 Thread Heath

I had a question that I was hoping ya'll could help me with.

I just got back from the Motor City Con (it is a comic, toy, TV,
Movie, convention) and while I was there I witnessed a raid by the
MPAA on some dealers who were selling bootleg video's and video's
that are not yet availible (like some TV shows, or shows from
overseas that have not yet been released here), I got some of this on
camera. However, one of the MPAA guys saw me and said he did not
want to be on camera. He basicly, tried to intimate me. Anyway,
what is my legal standing? It was, to my knowledge a public place,
and I was documenting the MPAA and the local police shut down these
vendors. Can I show the footage even though the MPAA guy asked not
to be on camera. If I blur him out am I fine?

Like I said I was just hoping someone here may know something.
Someone said you have to have a release, but I don't nessacary think
that is true because of all those hidden camera things on the
news.anyway any help would be apprciated.

[videoblogging] What Do You Prefer to Vlog About

2006-05-22 Thread Monique Danielle

Howdy,

Lot's of folks have offered me great feedback on the types of 'challenges'
that we should post at VlogChallenge.

Would you prefer to see vague concepts like 'love', 'hope'. A bit more
concrete concepts like 'apples', 'cracks'. Or very specific
concepts/questions like 'who was your favorite teacher', and 'tell about
your best kiss'.

Please respond. I want to make VlogChallenge a fun platform for vloggers.

I have a guy who is going to program the site so that it is more
sophisticated. But he's backed up with a project for the etrade guy right
now. But I think that we can give VlogChallenge a shot with the current
programming until then

Cheers

Well,

I always wanted to do video. I have some in my current podcast
(www.frenchpodclass.com), but that is not the same.

so here it is: www.francewithsebastien.com (also available on itunes.)

I know that :
1/ it is not the best video quality ever, but i am limited on
the materials and the set up, and overall,
2/ with what I have, am pretty happy (everything was done with a
camera and can not put away that automatic light).

If you ever donate a videocamera, well, I am here!

Programs that handle .mov files usually make calls to quicktime. If
quicktime is not present on the system then they won't be usable. If
quicktime is installed then try saving the .mov file in a different
format ( you may need a pro key to do this).

Sounds like a newsworthy
event to me. Whether or not you show
faces would depend on where you show the video. Is it going to shown privately for friends or
a public exhibition? If the former, I
wouldnt worry about it. If the
later, be on the safe side and do the witness protection thing.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: Speaking of Spam - blank trackbacks

2006-05-22 Thread Jen Simmons
Did you have Akismet activated? Do you now have both? Or did you have nothing and now you have Spam-Karma?

I finally did get Akismet turned on. It just worked when I tried it again. I also upgraded my Wordpress to 2.2 (from 1.5) finally on my main site. When I checked for spam this weekend, I had over 1500 spam comments on jensimmons.com -- GOD. It's one thing to have 100 or so, a pain to clear out, but oh well. But when it's 1500 -- with less then half being caught by Wordpress itself (which meant I had to delete them all individually in sets of 20) -- it was time to take some serious action.

I'm wondering do people like Akismet or Spam-Karma better? And /or is it possible to run both?

OK, I know this is an Editing 101 question, but you were all rookies
once right. Question is, what do you call the editing effect where you
cut to new scene, but you can still hear the old audio of the person
talking over the new scene? I'm trying to figure out if iMovie can do
that, or if I need to upgrade to Final Cut Express ($$).

Re: [videoblogging] Rookie Editing Question

2006-05-22 Thread Rebecca Sandifer

Its a J edit or L edit.
iMovie can do it - unlock the audio and video tracks and click and
drag the video head to shorten the end point of the first video clip.
Add the second video clip and unlock its tracks as well.
If you have extra room on the front of the second clip extend it's
starting point tot he left to cover the audio from the preceding clip.
Now you should be moving from one scene to the other with sound from
the first still going as you transition to the new scene.

Hope this helps.

Take that .mac feed as shown below and run it through Feedburner

Not attending? Here's an idea: Ship your stuff to

CAVEAT: Only ship us stuff you're prepared to

Hi.
If you check out eyespot.com, you can email your phone videos to their webpage and then, you can download either a wmv, or qt file. It is really a pretty cool page.
They will also stream you videos and it is super easy to put it on your webpage.
That is what I have been doing with my video blog. You can see the results if you want at..

Question, Greg,

How do you get Eyespot-generated flash videos that are loaded into your blog from Eyespot to show up as enclosures for your Blogspot feed? Doesn't seem to be working for me.

What I really like about Eyespot is the capacity to edit them together in their browser-based edit system. Very basic, but you can join and shorten clips and add your own or their music. I think they have other editing tools forthcoming.

Are you on the Mac or Windows (or Linux) platform? If Windows, I recommend looking into MediaCoder. I'm not *certain* it support 3gpp, but if it does it probably does it well. There's some indication of 3gpp support on this page:

I really like how MediaCoder works.

 Howdy,

Lot's of folks have offered me great feedback on the types of
'challenges'
that we should post at VlogChallenge.

Would you prefer to see vague concepts like 'love', 'hope'. A bit more
concrete concepts like 'apples', 'cracks'. Or very specific
concepts/questions like 'who was your favorite teacher', and 'tell about
 your best kiss'.

Please respond. I want to make VlogChallenge a fun platform for
vloggers.

I have a guy who is going to program the site so that it is more

Programs that handle .mov files usually make calls to quicktime. If
quicktime is not present on the system then they won't be usable. If
quicktime is installed then try saving the .mov file in a different
format ( you may need a pro key to do this).

[videoblogging] Re: 3gp converter

2006-05-22 Thread greg

Hi Jan.
Um, I don't know?
I actually have not viewed my RSS feed in an RSS reader yet. I use bloglines, and have been so busy adding other people's video feeds, that I had not added mine yet.
I just now added my feed to my bloglines reader, but I am at work and they block eyespot, so I can't see if the video shows up in my rss reader or what it looks like. Right now all I see is text and no pictures or video.
I will have to check the RSS feed when I get home, to see if the video shows up in the RSS feed.
I really did not do anything special on my blogspot settings, so even if the video does show up in the RSS feed, I still could not answer the question.. (I think your question was that the videos are showing up in my rss feed of my site, but you are having troubles displaying your videos in your rss feed for your site and how to fix that?).
But, if I find out that the videos don't show up on my RSS feed, that is good to know and I will have to try to figure it out.
Thanks!
Greg.

Replace the items in your wordpress vPIP folder with the newer version at:

the direct download link for vPIP 0.14 is:

NOTE: The above link will be outdated once vPIP 0.15 and future

After you have chosen your media in the code generator you will see a
box in the media tab that you can check the box next to Play in thickbox

Goto my vlog to see the difference, the first one (Immelman) is
thickbox and the second one (ticket) is the embedded video (tickbox
unchecked).

Have separate links for a embed and a ThickBox version. For example
for the Winnie Cooper Comes Home entry:

a href="" href="http://www.blip.tv/file/get/Joshleo-WinnieCooper903.mov">http://www.blip.tv/file/get/Joshleo-WinnieCooper903.mov
rel=enclosure type=video/quicktime >
'name=WinnieCooper'); return false;
 img border=0
src="" href="http://static.flickr.com/51/142505407_9192101f70_m.jpg">http://static.flickr.com/51/142505407_9192101f70_m.jpg //a

Will play embedded clicking on the image

 a href="" href="http://www.blip.tv/file/get/Joshleo-WinnieCooper903.mov">http://www.blip.tv/file/get/Joshleo-WinnieCooper903.mov
rel=enclosure type=video/quicktime >
'name=WinnieCooper', '','active=true; caption=Winnie Cooper Comes
Home'); return false;Play in ThickBox/a

Will play in thickbox when the Play in ThickBox link is clicked.

Re: [videoblogging] Legal Question, I think..........

2006-05-22 Thread Stephanie Bryant

Iam not a lawyer: you should probably call a legal aid society for
REAL advice, and possibly get an attorney, especially since your video
may be subpoena'ed. However:

Conventions are usually explicitly not public; that's why they can
show movies that would otherwise be not legal to show. You may need to
call the con organizers to find out what the status of the venue was.

Were you there as a member of the press (were you covering the con for
Galacticast, for instance)? If so, you're good to go; it's a
press-covered event, just read up on libel law (blur the faces and
always say allegedly). If you sell the footage to a local media outlet
(hint hint), they will make a determination over whether or not to
blur or not blur for their own purposes, and you might consider that a
guideline yourself (though broadcast vs. internet are two different
media and different laws). Others on this list might know what
stringer footage rates are.

As for the raid: The MPAA are not law enforcement, nor are they public
servants. Therefore, as private citizens (basically corporate
lawyers), they can opt not to appear in a movie (unless it's a
newsworthy event).

Police officers, however, are public servants and can be filmed in the
course of executing their duties, in uniform or out of it.

You can blur the MPAA out if you didn't get a release. What would be
interesting would be to see how the MPAA executed this raid, and I
hope you keep us all updated on the progress.

vendors. Can I show the footage even though the MPAA guy asked not

[videoblogging] Voxmedia wiki: Flash video

2006-05-22 Thread Chuck Olsen

For anyone who cares, I edited the Voxmedia wiki entry about Flash video.
It was extremely biased against Flash IMO:

>From this:
* ''Flash delivery of media''. While we love Flash for lots of reasons, the downside is that
Flash makes it nearly impossible for folks to quote / mashup or otherwise use your work
for their own nefarious artistic purposes. If you don't care about nefarious artistic
purposes as defined by the [http://creativecommons.org/ Creative Commons], then Flash
is great. It will prevent folks from downloading and distributing your work, just like
RealPlayer.

To this:
* ''Flash delivery of media''. We love Flash for lots of reasons, mainly because it's installed
on 98% of browsers. The downside is that Flash makes it difficult for folks to quote /
mashup or otherwise use your work for their own nefarious artistic purposes. Several
videobloggers are embedding Flash video in their blog, but making a Quicktime version
available for the RSS feed and other artistic uses.

[videoblogging] Re: Legal Question, I think..........

2006-05-22 Thread Gena

My feelings from what you have described it that you were at a public
event, therefore you had every right to record.

Now concerning the agent. He did not give his consent to be recorded
and told you as much. He does have the right as a human being to
express his desire not to be videotaped.

However, this is/was a bona fide news event. He had no authority to
tell anyone not to record. Vlogger or Network camera person he has no
say on when you hit the record button.

Hmmm. I'd say post the video and blank out the agent's face.

I would add that you follow the suggestions of others and check out
the EFF Blogger guidelines and Photographer's Rights brochure. Cuz
there will be more of this and many a law enforcement officer is going
to do his/her best to keep video documentation of their activities to
a minium.

Re: [videoblogging] Legal Question, I think..........

2006-05-22 Thread Stephanie Bryant

Eddie, does Jason's answer change much when given the information that
a comic con is NOT a public place? I'm not sure (and Motor City Comic
Con's website is offline), but most media-centric cons are private--
you buy memberships to them, and have to wear a badge to get into
panels, sessions, and the dealers room (where these bootlegs were
being sold).

Also, Heath: remember that Jason is at the EFF, an organization
diametrically opposed to the MPAA philosophically as well as
tactically. Not saying it's bad advice. Just saying it's not objective
advice-- very little in law is, though.

2006-05-22 Thread Shane Robinson

Hey Steve, An easier way to do what you want, in iMovie, is as follows:1) You have Clip1 on your timeline and Clip2 still in the clip bin. 2) Assuming Clip2 has been Trimmed or Cropped and is exactly what you want to lay over Clip1 in the timeline, right-click on Clip2 and select Copy (or select it and from the Edit menu choose Copy)
3) In the time line, position your playhead exactly where you want Clip2 video to start.4) From the Advanced menu, select Paste Over at PlayheadiMovie will insert Clip2's video at the playhead in place of Clip1 video but Clip1 audio willl remain. I've listed it out in 4 steps but once you know the keystrokes it only takes about 2-3 keyboard commands and can be done in less than 5 seconds.

OK, I know this is an Editing 101 question, but you were all rookies
once right. Question is, what do you call the editing effect where you
cut to new scene, but you can still hear the old audio of the person
talking over the new scene? I'm trying to figure out if iMovie can do
that, or if I need to upgrade to Final Cut Express ($$).

in imovie separate audio from clip (its under a menu somewhere), then
you can offset the audio where you want it to get the effect you're
after. i'd call it sound overlap but dunno
