I used the method when an app appeared to have frozen my iPhone about a year
and a half ago. When my iPhone recovered, the app was corrupt and would not

This is not a reboot or a reset. All that is caused is a crash of your
springboard. Think of it as the explorer.exe process on a PC running
Windows. If that process is crashed, you can restart

and tap with another finger. Took me a while to figure out.

Make certain you don't have your punctuation set to none. The same thing
happened to me until I changed it to some or all in the punctuation roter. Then
my symbols came back.
