Safari on iPhone XS keeps refreshing

2019-02-22 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi List,
Lately I have had issues with Safari. With some sites, the app seems to
constantly refresh or reload throwing me up to the top of the page and I am
unable to read the information.
Would an ad blocker help here? It is really frustrating.
Thanks for any tips in advance,
Jo

Re: how do I spell check when editing in iOS?

Hi there. I thought there may be some way of spell checkig whenever I am in an
edit box like when crafting text messages, FB or Twitter posts, using the notes

there was a general feature I could use.
Thanks,

voice over and zoom friendly apps for learning and study

Hi List and thank you in advance.
I am developing a database for post-secondary students on "apps for learning"
and would love to know what apps you are using for organisation, reading,
spelling, writing assignments, taking notes etc. I am crawling through Applevis
of course but am keen to know what else you may be using that hasn't made it to
Applevis yet.
I thought that I would share apps that I find useful that haven't made it to
Applevis to the listd.
Thanks,
Jo

alternatives to native reminders app?

2015-10-27 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi List and thank you in advance for any suggestions.
I use the native reminders app heavily including lists. The only real flaw is
that I want to be able to quickly see what has been completed each day based on
date and I don't seem to be able to do this.
My first question is whether this is actually possible in this app and I simply
don't know how to do it.
Secondly then is whether there is a more suitable app that I can collate this
information with.
I need to monitor what I get completed each day and have been resorting to even
opening up a another app to write completions down in. Obviously, it would be
more efficient to be able to do all of these things in the one app.
Thanks,
Jo

new Apple watch and I can't get messages to work - frown

2015-10-21 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi awesome list.
For those of you with the watch...
I am fully updated on both iphone and watch and have listened to a number of
David W's podcasts including the one on sending messages. I think I am doing
everything correctly including being able to dictate then select send as text
and send. The message seems to send and makes its little sound but then a
little while later I get notified that the message failed.
Are there any settings on either the phone or watch I need to check so that
sending messages will work? BTW, I did receive a message that was sent to me
via my watch so something must be working - smile.
Thanks in advance,
Jo

app for capturing jaws keyboard commands and instructions - database? flash cards?

2015-09-02 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi Peeps,
I really need to build my capacity in maximising jaws and other screen reader
commands which I can check via my iPhone whilst working on my laptop or to
refer to when assisting other screen reader users on the fly.
Do any of you have app recommendations such as databases or flash card or index
card apps that you have found useful in sorting out such info? I need something
that is systematic and that will be easy to refer to quickly.
I figured I would check with you people first before trying out a heap of apps
myself so that I don't reievent the wheel so to speak - smile.
I look forward to your feedback and advice.
Thanks,
Jo

jail broken apple TV 2 and accessibility

2015-06-07 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi List, we have just bought an apple tv 2 and my sighted hubbie wants to jail
break it. If we do, will I still be able to use it with voiceover? We haven't
had one before and I am very excited to learn how to use it but worry that if
it is jail broken, I won't be able to.
Thanks,
Jo

problems sharing to Twitter from the Lire app

2015-02-10 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi List,
I am seeking some advice. I have updated to an iphone 6 plus from a 4S. I used
to be able to share articles in Lire with Twitter however I am now getting an
error message that states Lire cannot send to Twitter at this time as the
connection to Twitter has failed.
I have double checked my settings to make sure that permissions are checked
with Twitter and Lire and have emailed the Dev who was awesome in replying
quickly however said that this was not an issue with the Lire app itself so he
couldn't help me.
I deleted the Twitter app and re-downloaded it to see if that helped but no
luck.
This is also happening on my ipad air. I share a great deal of information
between Lire and Twitter and am really missing this function. Using latest ios.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance,
Jo

Trying to use ios keynote for the first time with voiceover on ipad

2014-09-27 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi there. I have to do a presentation at the end of the week and thought I
would give keynote a go however I am already quite confused with even what
template to choose. I have two devices at the moment, one with 8.12 and one
with 7.12 so happy to work with whichever one is best with VO.
Are there any quick tips anyone has for getting me started? I have already gone
to Applevis and the Apple accessibility webpage but can't find anything to help
me decipher interpreting the templates to ensure I choose one appropriate for
the presentation.
All help is gratefully appreciated :)
Thanks,
Jo

pay - smile.

Re: index card app

2014-03-12 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi there. I am still getting to know all the features of this app however here
is how I am using it so far:
I support students who are blind or vision impaired in vocational education and
training and so work with students who use a whole range of different
technologies and screen readers. I have set "projects" (this is what you call
perhaps topic areas) up for each of the screen readers. As I come across
different hot keys or short cuts, I add them to the appropriate project. This
way when I am out and about with the students and we come across a difficulty,
hopefully I have already found a solution and can look it up quickly from the
app.
There are a thousand different uses - some might use it for creating study
notes on a subject or text, others may use it for exam summary notes, you could
also use it for projecdts, ideas, creative writing drafts and the list goes on.
It does cost a couple of $ but so far, I am extremely happy with the app. I
have also found the dev very responsive.
There is only one unlabelled button which is in the top left hand corner and
Iam sure you will probably be able to create a label for it - I just haven't
done so yet. This button takes you to the help area, support information
version number etc.
Here is the link to the app in the app store:
https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/index-card-for-iphone/id517548830?mt=8
Enjoy,
Jo

index card app

Hi list. I am so happy with the index card app however it is iphone specific.
You can purchase an ipad version for a few $ however I would like to know

I have emailed the dev but am a bit impatient for a response so thought I'd put

Re: sending tweets from Lire

2013-11-14 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi Alex, Where do I do this? I checked in both the privacy and twitter settings
and lire is not listed. I have gone through every spot I can find in the Lire
app to find where I can add Lire to Twitter as well with no luck. I am assuming
that this is the problem. I have listened to the second podcast from Applevis
but that was about folders mainly. I have done a google search and have not
been able to find the answer and on the Lire website, there are no actual
instructions or manual.
Thanks,
Jo

sending tweets from Lire

2013-11-14 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi List, is anyone using Lire and sending tweets from within the app? I keep
coming up with errors that say I can't post to Twitter. I have checked to make
sure that I am logged in with Twitter but can't seem to shake the problem. Any
advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jo

losing my place in twitterific 5

Hi List, can anyone tell me what I need to do so that I don't lose my place all
the time in my timeline in twitterific 5? Using 4s with 7.03 and latest
twitterific 5.I really like this app as it is so efficient but as soon as
follow a link or come back to the app it puts me at the top of my timeline
rather than where I last was.

Hi there. I am most interested in what app or platform you are using to create

compose button in mail on ipad

2013-10-20 Thread Jodie hoger
Sorry people if this has been discussed before but i am wondering whether I am
doing something wrong. I can only find the compose button in mail when I have a
message already open. I cannot find a compose button when I have no mail open,
just the list of items in my box. Is this so? It is different on my iphone when
there is a compose button without the need for a message to already be open.
Would just like some clarification on this. Using ipad mini with 7.02 and
iPhone 4S with 7.02.

Re: Calculator for ipad

Hi there. Sorry to create confusion. Going back to my app I realise that I
assumed it was the native app purely as I couldn't remember downloading it
however if I had of looked more closely and realised that whilst it is free
there is a paid upgrade, I would have realised at once my mistake. Anyway, here
is the link to the claculator in the App Store. You can use it fine without
paying the $1.99 for the upgrade.

Re: logging out of Facebook?

2013-09-28 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi Maria. I am using a 4s with 7.2 and have the latest updated facebook app.
If you go to the bottom of the facebook app you will find a more button. Double
tap on this and then four finger tap at the bottom of the page to put yourself
on the bottom row. Flick to the left until you hear log out. You should then be
able to select this and log out and then proceed to logging in with your
husbands details.
I hope this works for you - smile.

Re: Renaming App

2013-07-16 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi Alan, firstly, thank you so much for putting me on to this app. It is
exactly what I needed.
I downloaded the lite version first and when you go to purchase the full
version, it does tell you that the app name will not change from the lt
version. I agree, it creates confusion. I am going to just rename the app using
voiceover - basically just calling it Tap Forms without the Lt. It does also
say that you have to purchase separate copies for your mac and ipad. I also use
an ipad for work so will most likely end up doing this as it is going to be so
useful. When I do that though, I'll go straight to the paid version in the App
Store and pay for it directly for my ipad. I am assuming then that it will be
simply called Tap Forms. I wonder if an email to the dev could change the name
and remove the Lite when you upgrade via in app purchasing? He seems pretty
responsive looking over his blog briefly.
Thanks again for this little pearl,
Best, Jo

App for multiple timetables

2013-07-15 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi List, I am trying to find a suitable app that I can have multiple
timetables. I support over 30 students across a wide range of courses and am
trying to find something whereby I can label the timetable or schedule with the
student's name and enter in their class times and locations and teachers so
that I can all that information readily at hand when visiting the classes over
various campuses. I am hoping that someone out there might know of such a beast
- smile. I have done considerable searching on Applevis and the App Store and
have downloaded a number of apps that aren't quite doing it for me.
Thanks in advance,
Jo

Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?

Hi. I'm not that brave - smile. I am pretty tough on my phone as I use it for

have a juice pack case which both protects the phone and charges it up when
needed. It's a bit bulky but that's the trade off.

skype not ringing when I get a call

2013-05-27 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi. I am new to skype and I have it active in my notifications bar etc but for
some reason, it doesn't ring when I am getting a call so I am missing calls. I
know this as when I go into the app, I can see that there are missed calls. I
leave myself signed in and so am not sure what I need to do in order to have
skype ring etc in order for me to answer.
I would appreciate any advice.

Hi List. I thought I would jump in here and give a plug for the app tweetlogix.
I find it extremely stable and gives me a lot of choices as to what I can do
with the tweets, especially when I follow through to a link.
I find sometimes that twitterific loses my place which is extremely annoying
when I follow so many people.

Re: a way to carry an iPhone 4S

2013-04-29 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi there. I bought an iphone lanyard off ebay for about $6.00 Australian. It
has the same connector as the apple charger that slots into the base of the
phone and clips in so it can't fall out. You then simply hang it around your
neck. Mine is for an iPhone 4S but I am sure you would be able to get them for
the 5's.

Re: app for time zones

2013-04-01 Thread Jodie Hoger
e replies. I have taken a look at the world clock tab in the clock app and that
is ok but Siri will only tell me the time right now in another location. What I
want is to be able to ask her "If it is 8pm in New York, what time will it be
in Sydney? she couldn't answer that. Perhaps I didn't ask her correctly? I am
wanting something where I can put a time like 8pm New York and find out what
time that will be in Sydney, australia. I can work it out from the world clock
tab but am lazy and would much rather have something work it out for me lol.
thanks though as I didn't know the world clock tab existed and it was there
under my nose the whole time - grin.
Thanks again,
Jo

Re: edmodo

2013-02-24 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi Bob. I agree with you. I am in Australia and am blind myself and teach in
the vocational education sector. We are about to use edmodo in many classrooms
so I am investigating how accessible both the website and ios app is for both
my own access and of course for the accessibility of any students who are blind
or vision impaired enrolled in courses using this platform.
If you would like, you can email me at jodieho...@gmail.com and I can pass on
my findings re accessibility.

If any others are on the list that would be interested, email me and I'll
include you as well so as not to clutter up the list.
As an aside, Edmodo is being used in many countries now and I think we would
have more success working the developers in ensuring accessibility rather than
working against the system, lets work with it and improve it.
Best wishes,
Jo

Re: Internet favorites on HOmePage

2013-02-06 Thread Jodie Hoger
Lauren, absolutely you can do this. The instructions you found were correct.
Open safari and go to a website you want to save to your home page. Tap on
utilities and swipe right until you hear add to home screen. double tap on this
and you get an option to change the name of the web page. I think then you
swipe left and you will hear add. double tap on this and your webpage will be
saved to your home screen. You then will need to move it like any other app to
the folder you have created for your favourites. You are only limited to the
amount of apps you can hold in a folder. I haver several folders with specific
websites I use all the time and it works a treat.
I hope this is helpful.

Re: OCR for PDFs

2013-02-04 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi Holly. The only way I have been able to do this with an image of text
emailed to me is to take a screen shot of the page which then saves it to the
last item on my camera role. From here I can open my preferred ocr app - had
best outcomes with prismo, and open the last item on the camera role and it
will perform the ocr for me. it is a bit tricky and time consuming and you can
only do one page at a time however it is the only work around for this issue
for us at this moemnt in time. To take a screen shot of your iphone you hold
the home key and power button at the same time. You will hear the camera
shutter sound so you know you have taken the shot.
Hope this is somewhat useful.

can't activate links in facebook posts

2012-10-25 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi List, I am having real trouble activating links that are posted within a
post on facebook. Is anyone having success with this? Using a 4s with IOS 6. I
have several facebook apps but not having much luck with any of them. an
example would be someone posting from a website like a shopping site that
gives a message about their latest sale and then include the WWW address to
click on that will take you to that particular page.
Any advice?
thanks,
Jo

best app for linking bookimarks/favourites across all my devices including windows

2012-10-16 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi Group, Between work and study, I literally have hundreds of websites in my
favourites on a laptop and work pc as well as my iphone and ipad. I desperately
need to find an accessible app/application that will enable me to link all of
these together to one list so i can easily get to the right site at the right
moment. I am using windows 7 with ie 8 and window eyes along with the ios 6 on
a 4s and ipad third gen.
Any advice that will assist me in being more efficient is greatly appreciated.

activating links in facebook posts

2012-10-16 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi. I tried searching through the archives first as I have a feeling this has
been discussed before but had no luck. I have the native FB plus focus, facely
HD and no matter which app I use, I don't seem to be able to activate links
that people include in their posts. If they simply post the link via the net, I
seem to be able to do that but a lot of my posts include a link to a website
in their actual message and no matter what I try and do, I simply don't seem to
be able to activate the link.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: OCR doc already on the iPhone/iPad

2012-10-07 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi there. I have the same issue. I haven't found an app that will do this
directly however here is a workaround.
Open the file attachment and take a screen shot - home plus power button. This
puts a photo of the image in your camera roll and will be the last one on the
list with the highest number.
Open your preferred ocr app and go to the camera roll option. Select the photo
of the image you took the screen shot of and go through the normal process of
your app to ocr it.
I find that prismo is the most accurate with the least amount of mistakes but
the others do work reasonably well if you don't have prismo. You can then save
your translated file into whatever app you use for storing documents etc.
HTH,
Jo

can I label a screen shot?

excited to have worked this out however I am wondering whether there is a way
of labelling the screen shot so it is easier to find in my camera roll?

email attachments that are images of text pdf files

2012-09-16 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi group. I am after an app that will ocr email attachments that have been sent
to me at work via mfd machines. This is a common practice across our campuses
so I receive text files as image pdfs. I really need to be able to read these
files from my ipad/iphone as I am often on the road and do not have access to
my laptop with fine reader or adobe pro that converts these files for me. I
have downloaded several ocr apps however they all seem to only work from taking
a picture of the print and then converting it which is not meeting my needs.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Jodie

Whether apps appear upon your other devices automatically is dependant upon
your iTunes settings. If the Fleksy app isn't showing up on your iPad, you
could just go to the app store on your iPad and download it. It may appear
as though you are going to be purchasing it again but you won't be charged

Hi Ben. How fortunate! I rebooted twice and it seems to be finally working-

Thanks,

As it turns out, you have informed the developer without realizing it :) I
happen to watch this forum from time to time.

I haven't gotten a lot of reports of this behavior directly, but now that
you mention it I believe I have heard a few people mention having a rough
time and having to "reboot" to get in. I'll take a closer look at the
linking up to Facebook routine.

Jody, here's how I to delete from app switcher. It sounds complicated when I
write it down but it's really not. Maybe somebody else has an easier way.

1. go to the home screen. then, double click your home button and you will
hear "app switcher."
2. Flick to the right and then left to. Get a sense of the app switcher
layout. On the left should be "dismiss app switcher." Each flick right
should land you on one of the open apps. Double tap on one of the apps and
hold your finger in place until you hear "editing apps." Then lift your
finger. You are now in an editing apps mode.
3. Now, flick right and left through the open apps, double tapping each one
without holding your finger. You should hear the little clicky sound as
the app closes.Double tap "Dismiss App Switcher."

Note: this should work on all of the apps in the app switcher except for the
last one you opened prior to entering the app switcher. For example, say you
did some email, followed by surfing a web site, followed by checking
weather. You should be able to enter the "editing app switcher" mode by
double tapping and holding any app in the app switcher other than weather.
I am told it is a good idea to regularly clear out your app switcher; don't
know if it is true but I hear tell it helps with battery life. HTH

I ran into the same issue when I installed it on my iPad. This happened for
me after the app sent me to Safari to authorize the app through Facebook.
I shut both safari down and voice book vo. I cleared them both from the app
switcher as well. Then I re-opened voice book VO. I got the message about
the app being for people using voiceover. I clicked the Ok or whatever
button it was to close the message and all seemed fine after that. i have
not updated the app on my iPhone yet. I just ran out of time today. I hope
to get to it tomorrow so I can pay for the ability to post and such. :)
