RE: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read
Out of close to a dozen audiologists I have worked with only one really took the time to insure I had good aids. He worked for the VA and kept up with the news releases for various companies. He also talked with company engineers on a regular basis. He took the time to explain why a particular aid was best for me and replaced my aids early if a significant improvement had been made. Unfortunately he retired. And his replacement, who was nearly as good, also retired shortly later. I have audiologist tell me I don’t need features that would help me. One questioned the amount of support equipment I had and didn’t believe me when I told her it wears out in months. When I told her she had programmed my aids incorrectly, she walked out of the room without saying anything. I have a pair of Resound aids that are great for some things especially working with the computer. I also have an old pair of Phonak aids that work better in some situations. I usually wear one of each. I have the computer work through the Resound and the phone through the Phonak. I have never tried the Resound app. Too many people do not consider multiple handicaps. So, how many of you who use or are considering the ReSound brand have used that contact link I posted a few times already? The bad news is, ReSound is not an American company, so there's no compulsion for them to be interested in accessibility. Since that appears to be the case, I'm voting with my feet, as they say, and attempting to find another brand. If I have to find another audiologist to do that, I will. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. A nearby landmark is The White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. I would start the fun, but am not an American, nor do I own any Resound Hearing Aids. Make Trump a One-Term President! I am a long-time hearing aid user. I have had resound hearing aids in the past. The lack of accessibility and commitment to fix it has been a long-standing problem. Last year I purchased new hearing aids from Oticon. Not only does the sound quality blow Resound right out of the water, the accessibility of their app is considerably better. When my audiologist was helping me select new hearing aids, she mentioned that she had attended a conference where there was limited discussion regarding accessibility of apps for individuals who are blind/visually impaired and using hearing aids. If my memory serves me right, she mentioned that Apple was working with several hearing aid companies to make sure pairing of the hearing aids went as smoothly as possible. Dear Steve & List: Pack your 5440, take the 09:14 to Dodge, and let them have it at High Noon! Resound never considered that anyone with a vision problem would be prescribed their hearing aids. Or visit the DOJ. Take the Uptown "E" from 23 St. Station to Penn Station. Then the Acela to DC Union Station. Not cheap, First Class is $455 each way. Think Amtrak sells monthly Acela tickets. Rachel and I Safaried to Washington DC Union Station one day to visit a friend of mine by the Acela. She loved the lack of screaming kids, complimentary Coffee, O. J. etc. in the Metropolitan Lounge just for First Class travelers. Asked about the fare and almost died. Said we could have flown for that. Liked the comp. headphones and hot meal with the works. One un-advertised perk of First-Class Amtrak is the bar is bottomless! One of their agents said if this were advertised, the W. C. T. U. would lobby Congress to pass The Volstead Act II. Friend of mine living in my building was told The Blue Rinse Mob leave their meeting at their venue, Willard Hall, and promptly proceed to Mickey Finn's Bar & Grill across the street! He said they sure do! And they enjoy the bar! He said they are all hypocrites. Brian K. I think I'll be having a talk with the people who sold me these ReSound ones and see if I can move over to the Auticons about which I've heard nothing but great things. I'll give Apple Accessibility a call, too. On 7/27/2019 10:25 AM, Lynda Ingraham wrote: Hi, I am a long-time hearing aid user. I have had resound hearing aids in the past. Re: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read
Hi, I am extremely interested in being in the meeting if I can. Earlier this year I tried a new pair of hearing aids that my Audiologist thought would be fantastic as I could control the programs and she could send me tweaks to my program also. It ended up to be a disaster. Accessibility just was not there. I gave up after 2 months and decided to keep my old set. However, these are coming to their end as it has been 8 years or so. I would buy a new pair if I could be assured of accessibility. I went to the link but only found an email address for contact. How do I find the form you are talking about. I would be happy to contact them. A question, however, do audiologists work with only one or two companies? I have so appreciate all the understanding and help my audiologist has given me, and I don't want to stop going there. I will try to find the form again, and I really, really hope we can meet with this company. Sounds like they would make some money if they helped us. Re: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read
Absolutely correct. And the salespeople are equally as clueless. They even recommended I contact my phone carrier for support. And the stupid audiologist who sold me these otherwise fine devices agreed with them, saying he thought it was the best idea! Wait until I go back for my first follow-up on the 13th and tell him the interest I've aroused on this list! I hope all you ReSound users are carrying the flag over to the ReSound people and letting them know we're out here and something needs to be done. Of course, we don't have to get militant on them, or in the words of a set of books I just finished reading, we don't have to get western on them (LOL), but we're out here, and equal access isn't just an idea any more. Re: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read
What you can do is write to ReSound via their contact form and let them know you're out here and need their developer to get with the program regarding accessibility. This has to be a very focused approach, otherwise there's no point in contacting half a dozen different people who can't do anything for us. If this guy Matthew Oslund hears from all of us with same or similar issues, it has more of an impact on the developer when he/she/they get(s) to hear about it. It sounded to me like that development is not done by ReSound, that it's jobbed out to another company, and until we have direct contact with that other company, we have to go through channels, as they say, and the channel we should use is the ReSound contact form. Re: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read
Hello Steve & others, I'm so glad to see this post. I am about to buy a new pair of hearing aids later this year. I have been considering ReSound , specifically because of their compatibility with iOs. I too, am a VoiceOver user. I will follow this thread with interest and would love to be advised if a meeting with ReSound rep occurs. I just sent subscrition request to blind hearing aid user list. Very grateful for what has been shared here. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. RE: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read
I too have these Resound aids and the app is not accessible. I have spoken to the Resound tech numerous times in MN and have told them you make hearing aids to help people with hearing loss but you don't make your app accessible. All I have gotten told is they are working on it. I'll believe that when I see it. I have a Racing app that gives the results for all the car races all over the US and that app is accessible. I don't believe there would be too many blind people using that app but they can make it accessible but Resound cannot make there app accessible. No, I haven't done that yet, but will definitely have a look at it. I'd love to be able to use this app and have thought about trying another brand when these get older just for the availability of an accessible app that I can actually use. Re: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read
If you can find someone who can do a meeting, I'd recommend setting up a Zoom meeting, since you can do that for free for a group and the meeting can be up to 40 minutes or so I think. I'm not there yet, but I suspect I will have to get hearing aids before too long. Richard Arthur C. Clarke's third law says: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." What would be nice is if we could get a group of blind Resound hearing aid users together to speak with a Resound rep. My audiologist says she can contact someone that works there to work with me specifically, but I wonder if we might meet with them and nicely explain what is going on and work on a fix? William Arthur Ward - 1921-1994 - Writer - Original Message - From: "Steve Matzura" To: Sent: Thursday, July 25, 2019 10:03 AM Subject: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read I just got some the day before yesterday from a company called ReSound (https://www.resound.com/en-us/hearing-aids/resound-hearing-aids/quattro). This model is controllable from an iOS device, but wouldn't ya know it, turn VoiceOver on, and everything just falls over. The Smart-3D application goes completely haywire with VoiceOver in focus. It automatically changes programs (hearing-aid profiles) in a round-robin fashion without any human interaction and with no way to stop it, and there are two on-screen buttons which are unlabeled and unresponsive when double-tapped. Of course I wrote to the manufacturer with details of the problem, and I got a very nice reply that said in essence that my message would be forwarded on to the developer for further action. Of course, those messages always sound like black holes to me, so I thought I'd take my troubles to the best place of which I could think--this list. If anyone's familiar with these aids and this software, please sing out, with my profound thanks in advance. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
