It's true that some development teams are just learning how to do things in the open and that's certainly the case here. Although with the CIFS Server and Virus Scan projects there was another reasons that it "just appeared" seemingly fully formed. In fact, both are far from complete and we would be delighted if members from the community would jump in and contribute with comments, ideas, and code. The major factor was the fact that the development teams were given an extremely aggressive schedule to achieve internal product goals. It was felt that opening the project early and necessitating the team to actively participate in the ensuing discussions would only impede progress on their committed project deliverables. There was no intention to be secretive; it was all about focusing the available bandwidth of the developers. Much work remains in both CIFS and Virus Scan project and we're now committed to working with the community to evolve it. In the coming months we'll be addressing some of the capabilities not currently available in the initial implementation, source cleanup and optimization, and performance enhancements. We'd like people to start trying the new features and tell us what they like, what goes wrong, etc. This is a great chance to get involved early in the project life cycle. Note that the the PSARC materials for both CIFS Server and VSCAN will be made available to the community shortly. --bg _______________________________________________ storage-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss
