Hi folks:

I've located the shocks and backing plates to rebuild my running gear. My local
auto parts store can not cross reference the National #6362 grease seals on the hubs.
Does anyone have a National or OEM part number for replacements?

Thanks in Advance

Subject: Sarasota Post Rally
Hi All,
The adventure continues. Sunday morning (02/24/02) , we left the Sarasota
Rally and traveled 180 miles to Jetty Park Campground. Two hundred of us
(out of 600 at the rally) made the trip as part of the Sarasota Post Rally
event. Dry parking (boondocking) was "creative" on grassy areas along a dirt
road to the Overflow area, on two Scout fields, on both sides of the park's
macadam roadway and throughout the tent area field (where we parked).
Helter skelter was how it looked from afar. We chose a N-S alignment to get
direct sun along both long sides of our Airstream. During winter months,
that's our favorite parking position. Our spot was on high ground with a
fence on the curb side (another favorite), was four way level when I stopped
and had a clean western shot for our TV dish (hurray for solar).
At our general meeting (about dusk), directions for Monday's ocean trip were
outlined. Never having been on a gaming ship before, we were glad to hear
that Sandie could use her Rascal for both boarding and while moving around
on the ship. Someone asked about meals. The word was the ship provided free
food (sandwiches, eggs, veggies, cookies and pastries) and drinks (soft and
hard) during the entire trip (it did).
Monday morning, everyone boarded the Ambassador II (luxury cruise ship with
three decks of Vegas style tables and slots) for a day of gambling at sea
beyond the three mile limit. This was our once a year occasion to gamble. As
it turned out, we lost our alloted $20, we won it back and lost it again.
High rollers, huh? But, it was a fun afternoon on a beautiful ship.
There were entertainer groups on each deck, even a massage parlor. One of
our friends did that and she loved it. Some Airstreamers spent time topside
on deck watching waves and white caps. Although the ship rocked and rolled
now and then, it was a comfortable trip.
Back at the campground we learned there will be a shuttle launch during the
wee hours of Thursday morning and anyone may extend their time at Jetty Park
by renting another night. The launch site can be seen from the park, thus we
are already at a prime viewing area. The top nose cone of the rocket is
visible from our campsite. We're going to stay for the launch.
Tuesday, everyone went to Kennedy Space Center (KSC). Tickets had been
purchased by our Caravan Leaders before the Sarasota Rally. We drove 10
miles to KSC's parking lot. There were 3 major attractions. Each bus had a
mechanical lift for electric wheel chairs. All facilities were convenient
for us. We saw the IMAX movies, went to almost all the attractions in each
area, including the Visitor Center Complex, plus bought lunch (big $) at a
cafeteria. The day was a sunny and mild. We enjoyed Kennedy Space Center.
What would we do different next time? We'd leave Jetty Park at 8AM and be at
KSC in time for the first IMAX movie. That would have released us from the
time pressure of getting back so we could see the other movies before
returning to the campground. As it was, we left KSC by 5pm and still had not
seen every single attraction and movie.
With a quick change of clothes, we drove over to the Gala Final Banquet at
a fancy hotel. Sitting around our dining table, it was fun listening to what
others did at KSC and sharing stories about trips each of us have taken
around the continent. We learned of new places to explore in Mexico and
attractions to search out during our next cross country trip. Insights
gained from such impromptu chit chats are always a delight to us.
All in all, this has been a well run Post Rally event. Ray and Barbara
Landman did a fine job with all the arrangements. They're already planning
next year's post rally trip (to wherever?).
Back at the campsite, there was a full moon and tomorrow's weather is
forecast to be even cooler and clearer. After getting compass bearings from
the man who runs the bait shop, I came back to our trailer and calculated
the exact direction the booster rockets will take down range. We'll have
front row seats. It may be the most spectacular launch we've seen yet.
Wednesday morning, Airstreamers began moving from the macadam roadway up
into the tent area in preparation of Thursday morning's launch. Most chose
to continue boondocking but with freezing weather forecast, the launch may
not occur. Our empty 40# propane bottle was refilled ($2.19 a gallon - 9.2
gallons). Ouch!
Thursday morning's launch (32 degrees at 6:30 am) didn't occur due to
freezing temperatures. It was rescheduled for Friday morning. That meant
paying another $19 to boondock in the tent area. Ouch again! Our catalytic
heater was more than sufficient to keep us warm and there was no need to use
the furnace. Thermopane windows in our Airstream are a real asset.
Friday (03/01/02) morning's launch did occur (50 degrees at 6:22 am). We
watched as the Columbia lit up the launch pad before lifting off, then saw
it streak straight up through the clouds as it chased the Hubble Telescope.
We could feel the air pulsate. It was an awesome sight and experience.
A few minutes later while we were eating breakfast (and not looking), a US
Navy Nuclear Submarine sailed up the canal in front of our campsite. I wish
we had seen it as my brother is a Retired Nuclear Submarine Commander.
After Friday's launch, we're going to King George RV Park in Kingsland,
Georgia (Coast to Coast/RPI systems) for awhile. After ten days of rally
activities, we need time to reorganize, refresh and do a little maintenance
before continuing on to New Orleans.
Louisiana is only 600-700 miles and will include two stops at Elks Lodges, a
US Army Corps of Engineers Campground, an Escapees RV Park, an ex-Airstream
dealer for service and membership system (CCC/RPI) campgrounds. We're
planning to spend 2-3 exploring days at each stop and cover less than 100
miles on each leg.

Hi Fellow Airstreamers,
I'm starting my "spring cleaning" and have several round style tail
light assemblies (used & a couple different types) and several NOS
wedding cake type lenses. The lenses have the small clear spot for
lighting a license plate however I've taken some red paint on the inside
to make them all red when I've used them on some trailers in the past.
I'll let these go for my cost of $10.00 each plus shipping.
I also have some plastic drawers and wood drawer slides from out of
either a 1969 or 1970 Overlander International. There are several sizes.
These are at my cost (free) !! Just pay shipping.
For more details please contact me off list at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. I'll get
more specific to any questions.

Don McKelvay,
You didn't ask for what I'm about to say, but if you are thinking about
camping where there's no electrical power, it may make sense. On the other
hand, if you intend to always stay in campgrounds with electric power, then
disregard this post.
There are 8-watt Thin Lights available which use 0.9 amps. They're good for
close reading above your left shoulder beside the couch.
And - after two days of torrential rain and three dark cloudy days while
boondocking, you'll have a wider margin of 12 volt for minimal lighting
(even if not for reading).
As an aside, last week I picked up a propane lamp ($15) at the Sarasota
Rally Flea Market. I plan to install it in our '67 22' Safari unless I
install it in our '77 31' later this month. I love WBCCI flea markets.
For broiling hot days while boondocking, one or two small low amp muffin
fans strategically positioned can do wonders for staying "somewhat cool."
