The fact that this quote could even be dug up, or the one from Starr that
Kathy passed on, is chilling enough. I'm not sure what kind of effort it
took to find these quotes...busy bees with nothing better to do, but I'm
sure the net will make things much worse (before they get better).
In a few years someone will dredge up something I typed on a little
listserve. I just hope that by then (or anytime soon), people start taking
for granted that people change as time goes by, that what was said in the
past might not be said in the present, that life is about learning and
making decisions and learning and making decisions, etc. Some decisions are
"OK", some are "not OK". Live, learn, get on with it.
It's bad enough that I have to look at some lame things I wrote in college
occasionally when I'm going through old boxes of saved crap...chances are
that my contributions to the net may look like the same pablum in a few
years. The net could teach us that life marches on, or it could be a
goldmine for muckrakers and other same-strata idiots.

The insta-publishing of video, text, etc that has occurred during the
Clinton fiasco could just be the tip of the iceberg. Though I haven't really
analyzed it, my bet is that the quick publishing ability that the net
provides has played a big role in the sublime reasons behind why some of
this stuff was published at all. Traditional media and policy makers are
trying to keep up with the pace. Just happens to be that some of their
decisions appear to be rushed and not thought out. Critical thinking has
left the building. It'll take a while for them to "get" the fact that, just
because you can publish instantly, you still have a responsibility to
consider your decision carefully before pushing the button. </spewage>
