Kris,
Yes, at least my ability to communicate using my mental model is of
great interest to me.
Can you communicate without them? If not, they're just an integral
aspect of communication (thinking). If so, they're pointless (thinking
about thinking). Either way this takes care of itself, fluidly and
adaptively, in "realtime" (well, as close to it as our neurology allows
anyway). Anything else, just mental games - which can be very
entertaining, even engrossing for some.
And my ability to understand your (or someone else's) mental model is
also of interest. Most especially when they seem to have differences.
We have no ability to directly understand. We can't really know anything
directly. We have to recreate an impression/interpretation and form an
understanding based on that (Mara ;). Not a problem, just how it works.
No pressing need to be aware of this - but no reason to remain ignorant
either.
As for apparent differences, each expression is unique. It take some
form of mental association/accommodation to see any to be similar or
considered the same. A useful tool, one we use so much it's second
nature - thinking.
