Windows Media Player crossfader

2016-07-16 Thread Walter
Hi. Does anybody know how to get to and configure the WMP crossfader? I
looked on line and there were instructions for WMP 11 and WMP 12 (I don't
know what version I have nor how to find out). Unfortunately I couldn't
find the "Enhanced" portion in any of the menus in Options. Unfortunately
the instructions gave instructions using the mouse and described the screen
which is of little use to me. Any help welcome and appreciated. Walter.

Hello, I use Windows Media Player 12 and Windows 10 on a desktop and on a

with Windows Media Player my screen reader System access will announce each
song or whatever as it starts? Thanks.

Also, has anyone heard of the 5KPlayer? If so is it accessible for screen
reader users? If it is I could use it to play DVDs in Windows 10. Thanks
in advance for any info you can give.

RE: Urgent Help needed to uninstall Windows Media Player

2015-09-19 Thread Adrian Spratt
John,

This is an incomplete answer, but two pointers:

WMP shows up in the "Program files X86" folder, which on my system is in the
root of the C drive. This may be why you didn't realize WMP was already there,
as it probably was. So, if you have Windows 7, go to Computer, then hard
drive, then this folder.

Second, WMP has obviously hijacked your file associations. Again, assuming (big
assumption) you have Win7, open Windows search and type "file association,"
without the quotations. When it shows up, press enter and tab through the
choices.

Subject: Urgent Help needed to uninstall Windows Media Player

Hi, everyone. I'm in a real fix and need some help.

I use Total Recorder to record all or parts of audio I'm playing, then save
the recordings to files for later use. I recorded part of a file a couple
of weeks ago and it played back fine. Last week I installed Windows Media
player, and now total Recorder doesn't work at all - that is, none of the
files I record play back, either through Total Recorder or through Windows
Media Player, which has taken over as my default media player. (I used to
use Real Audio Player).

My first question: what's going on with Total Recorder? Why do files I
record no longer work? Second, how do I uninstall Windows Media player,
since that's the only variable that's changed?

I need help pretty quickly; I need to learn part of a religious service
that's coming up in a couple of days.

Thanks, everyone.

question about Windows media Player

Hello, I use Windows Media Player 12 on a Win 7 Home Premium machine; in a

editing playlist Windows Media Player 12

2015-06-28 Thread Peter Russillo
Hello list. Please give me some tips on editing a playlist in Windows Media
Player 12; I use Windows 7 and my screen reader is System Access. Here's
the deal: I made the playlist of an album I've got on the hard drive; yet a
piece from somewhere else in the computer got on the list along with the
album; what I need to do is take that extra piece of music off the playlist
so that only the album I put in the playlist will play; yet in the primary
list view in the Library, it shows only the names of the songs on the album
which is in the playlist; that extra music doesn't show up in the list view;
what's the best accessible way to take that extra item out of the playlist?
Thanks for any help or tips you can give me on this.

people will have to think about using another player such as VLC etc.

I just go into the folder in which the files are, select them out of the
order in which you'd think you should then hit enter. Bamm it plays in the
right order. I do this with movie audio I extracted with DVD Estractor. So
for an example of what I mean about going in the order that you wouldn't
expect, I'll use Godzilla 2014. So for the first time he shows up, you need
chapters 6 and 7. But you have to select 7 then 6. Then whin you hit enter,
it will play them in the right order.

Yeah, Window-Eyes 9.0 Beta 1 is pretty good, almost stable in fact, of

RE: Need help with Windows Media Player

2014-05-31 Thread Adrian Spratt
Perhaps eMusic changed your file association defaults. I know iTunes loves to
do that. If so, you need to associate the .mp3 file type back to WMP.

Go to the start menu search field. Type file association. Even before you
finish, this item will appear. Press enter on it. Wait several moments for all
the fields to come up.

After that you tab around for two fields. One is a button for the program type.
Once pressed, you're presented with a list of programs. With any luck, WMP will
appear in this list. If not, I believe Other is an option that will bring up
more programs on your system.

Then you tab to the long list of file types. Here, type very quickly .mp3 to
get you close to the .mp3 listing.

Going by memory, you now tab to OK. Perhaps there's an apply button to press
first.

I hope this gives you enough information to restore your preferred .mp3 file
association.

going into the menus. I have also poked around all the menus but
didn't see anything obvious that needed a setting to be changed.

Any suggestions on how to further trouble shoot this?
Thanks,

How about looking in program files (x86) should be a folder with that

Hey Alexandra
well first ctrl shift f stands for fast, not particularly fast forward.
The way you can fast forward is to tab to the seak option and then right and
left arrow, for pretty large movements.
My Recommendation is to switch to a more blind friendly music player.
There are quite allot, and personally I have 2 favorits ah maybe 3. :-) 1.
VLC player which originally is a video player you also can use for music
playing and all other kind of standard media files.
2. MaPler which I can't recommend buying any more as even how good it is
they are not doing much updating on it.
3. Good old Winamp.

All these can do fast tracking both forward and backwards with no problems
what so ever.

Best regards
Brian

Hi Alexandra,
In Windows vista and later you can do the following - not sure about xp. Tab to
the seek slider. Pressing LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW moves the playback backward
or forward by one twentieth of the length of the track. If you add SHIFT or
CTRL to these keystrokes, then the distance moved becomes one four hundredth or
a fifth of the length of the track respectively.
If you're using vista, then you can get to the seek slider quicker by pressing
ctrl+tab one or more times.

David.

RE: Question: Rewinding in Windows Media Player?

2014-02-01 Thread Steve Jacobson
I do not believe that rewind and fast forward work on all file types. In
particular, I am not sure they work on MP3 files, for example, or at least not
on all bit-
rates. However, it is possible that CONTROL-SHIFT-B is used by your screen
reader. For example. Window-Eyes uses it to toggle between restrictions
on the mouse pointer keys. You can get past that by using the key that
bypasses controls first. In case of Window-Eyes, pressing INSERT-B first will
cause CONTROL-SHIFT-B to be passed through to Windows Media Player. One way
you can determine if the rewind is working is to find Rewind in
the menus. Go do Play and then to rewind. If it is not functioning, it
will say Rewind disabled. Incidentally, I have some MP3's where fast forward
works but rewind does not.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

RE: Question: Rewinding in Windows Media Player?

2014-02-01 Thread Steve Jacobson
Alexandra,

You are probably partly right but it is more complicated. I think that rewinde
works all right on WMA and WAV files for example, and I think it works on some
MP3's. Also, I have heard that WinAmp does better
with this than Windows Media Player on MP3 files. Therefore, it might be the
player to some extent but it is also the file type as some files will rewind
fine in Windows Media Player. While it is probably true that
some players handle this better than Windows Media Player, there are a number
of variables in MP3 files that can make a difference in other cases. I've had
MP3 files, for example that will play on my
BookSense but not on a BrailleNote. If you have determined that the problem is
not your bypass key, then there is nothing else you can do, but you might find
that rewinding does work sometimes. Also, the
seq slider does seem to generally work, and who knows, maybe this is
something that will get fixed at some point by Microsoft, or maybe there is
some other setting that causes this that someone else here is
aware of.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

backward in a track is supposed tob e control shift b. But in the menu it
keeps telling me that it is not available and the key stroke ctrl+shift+b
doesn't work either. What do I have to do to make it work? The fast forward

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Question: Rewinding in Windows Media Player?

2014-01-31 Thread Brian Olesen

Hey Alexandra
well first ctrl shift f stands for fast, not particularly fast forward.
The way you can fast forward is to tab to the seak option and then right and
left arrow, for pretty large movements.

My Recommendation is to switch to a more blind friendly music player.
There are quite allot, and personally I have 2 favorits ah maybe 3. :-)

Brian

with the advent of Win XP Media Center. But I'm not sure about the original

windows media player goto command

2013-09-18 Thread Joseph Paton

Good Morning,

Winamp has a go to time function when playing audio files. Does the

An alternative but similar feature would be the facility to set book

Thanks.

Hi Tom,

I figured it may be a long shot. These programme features are
sometimes burried away in the menues and dialogues, so I thought it
worth a crack incase somebody has located the keystroke for the function.

Like you I prefer winamp. Particularly with the scripts from Jeff Bishop.

Kind regards,

windows media player

Using wmp 11 and windows 7. Somehow, my ability to add items to my play list
are no longer working. The playlist name which is dit appears in the
playlist at the top of wmp right before the music but the playlist name is
not in the context menu like It used to be. Also when I try to add files
using windows explorer, the option to add to my playlist name is not in the
context menu either. My playlist name dit use to be in that context menu.
I have done everything. Rebuilt the data base, troubleshooting media player
and reset to defaults. I have tried all kinds of things from Google and
people say that they hate the program and that Microsoft didn't test it
properly before release. I usually can find a fix for things like this but
no way this time. It is becoming a challenge. If no one has a fix for this,
I need a program just for burning cds. I am using winamp to play the music
but haven't been able to burn with winamp either. thanks

Okay, some other things you can try and you'll need sighted assistance for
these unfortunately.

Firstly go through the menu system to Update firmware and apply the latest
firmware update.

If this doesn't fix anything then you'll have to do a factory Reset.

Sorry I can't really be of any further assistance, I've not had this problem
yet.

I recently put my cd collection on my hard drive in mp3 format and I
got this real cool toy called an audio engine wireless adapter that
sends the music downstairs to the stereo. I am using windows media
player with windows 7. I would like to be able to use shuffle mode to
 shuffle a play list.
 If I
turn shuffle on, the songs are picked from the whole collection. Now
we don't want that because we don't want to hear Christmas songs in
the middle of may. In the play list options sufffle list is
unavailable. I tried winamp but cant stand it because it puts all
kinds of other junk on the computer.
Also when I stop the play list, it doesn't tell me what track is playing.
 Any ideas? thanks

2013-05-10 Thread Tom Kaufman
Steve and list: One tip about Winamp (at least this has been my experience)
you were saying how you don't like Winamp because it puts stuff on your
computer that you don't want; if I remember correctly, you can fix it so
it'll only download the things _you_ want! Another thing: you can (once
you've downloaded Winamp and installed it) go back and remove what you don't
want! I don't remember if you said which version of Windows (or which
operating system you're using) so this all may be different (I'm running
Windows XP) so as I said, your situation may be different. Personally, I
like Winamp, but this is a personal preference.

setting Windows Media Player as the default player

2013-04-06 Thread Mike Bernard

Hello everyone,
I just upgraded from Itunes 10 to Itunes 11. However, I've found that
now by default, whenever I play an mp3 file, Windows chooses Itunes as
the default player automatically, and I don't want that. How do I
change things so that Windows Media Player is the default player? I
know that there's an option within the start menu that says, set
program access and defaults), but I don't remember the steps to adjust
the default player. How do I do that? I'm running Windows xp Home
Edition. Thanks.

2013-03-23 Thread Hamit Campos
They both work quite well. Now, if you are going to play a DVD with either
of them, you must use Narrator and shut JAWS off. This is because since JAWS
is using a mirror driver, it'll think you want to steal the content to put
it directly. So you must use //Narrator for DVD play back. That works well
though. Trust me, I've done it. Remember that with WMC you can turn your PC
into a TV. The set up I here you need sighted help for, but once that's all
done and over with, you can use it just fine. Note, you can do most of the
basic setup, the monitor, the speakers and stuff like that. I here it's the
signal set up that's hard. Oh yeah, setting up the times for it to down load
updates is kind of hard too. You can set up the internet signal, but you
aren't sure what you're doing. I just let it do what ever it wishes. I love
Windows Media Centere. I wnt to put a TV tooner
In my next PC and use it as a TV. But yeah, both WMC and WMP both work with
JAWS.

keystroke for JAWS14 to say the song name and artist of a song in a song list playing in windows Media Player 12

2012-12-31 Thread Dujari, Prateek
Hello

Win7,wMP12, JAWS14
I'm playing a long song list by right clicking a folder on my PC hard drive
full of many mp3 songs by selecting 'play in WMP' from the context menu. In
WMP12 while the song list is played, I'm in the library view, if it matters
here.
I just can't seem to figure out how to let JAWS announce the current song that
is playing. Insert (jaws key) plus T nor insert plus pg down don't say that at
all.

So how can I quickly have jaws announce the current song playing preferably a
key stroke combo?

Thanks

Did you play a CD before this and just alt F4 out of it? If so, next time
you play a CD, don't close WMP, but rather play an audio file be it an MP3
or what ever, and then you can close it and it will be fine. I've personally
had enough of WMP 12 doing this. WMP 13 had better behave it self or else.
WMP 11 didn't do this, I really don't get it. You must always remember this
for each time you play a CD. No closing WMP allowed righte after.

windows media player problems

2012-03-28 Thread André van Deventer
Hi folks

Using jaws 13, windows 7 and windows media player 12.

For some reason Windows Media player does not now want to play any streams
from the internet.

This happened after I tried to play a protected file on it. This is a
ripped cd on my hard drive which was ripped in wma lossless in protected
mode by mistake.

I got the usual message that a license was downloaded now and I could play
the file. However, when I closed media player and tried to play the file it
froze. After a time a message appeared saying something like a server that
could not be found.

Since then for some strange reason I am also unable to play streamed content
on windows media player from the internet.

All unprotected content however works fine.

Any advice?

If you go to your fave search engine and look up 'fix wmp12 error' then you

However I can tell you to keep your hopes realistic as despite trying out the

I know that NVDA doesn't use a mirror driver, and that's why I decided to
try it with the movie. I thought that Media Player would be happier with
that configuration. I do intend to try some other DVD players with that
particular movie and JAWS 13 since I want to use the OCR feature on the menu
titles. Maybe other players won't complain about the copy protection.

Since then for some strange reason I am also unable to play streamed content
on windows media player from the internet.

All unprotected content however works fine.

Any advice?

Andre

Need help resolving this Windows Media Player 12 problem on my new win7 laptop

2012-03-12 Thread Dujari, Prateek
Hello gang.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this WMp12 problem on my Win7 laptop?

I recently bought a new Win7 laptop with Windows Media Player 12 preinstalled.
I'm able to play mp3 files on the laptop SSD just fine using WMP12. About 10%
of the time though, when doing this, Stops playing in the first second or so
with an error.

My main problem is when trying to stream audio files using WMP12 from a radio
show website where they upload the show archives. These online audio archives
work fine on another win7 desktop at home so the website archives are fine.
However every single time I attempt to play that archived audio using WMP12 on
my laptop I immediately get an error msg within WMP and it's as follows:

RE: Windows Media Player 11

2012-01-20 Thread Hamit Campos
This is very strange. I've ripped things in WAV, and it works just fine.
It's probably because of how it didn't complete the rip. I've seen this
happen with DVD Audio Ex
Tractor when you extract a DVD that's a bit damaged and it does kind of
extract the chapter I guess. But not really. It sounds like that's kind of
what happened here but it's hard to say why since you said that the CD is
fine, and it worked when you did it in WMA lausless. But yeah, I prefer PCM
WAV my self.

Hi.

WMP11 has six format settings for ripping CDs. I chose WAV (Lossless). WMP
took a long time to go through the ripping process, and in fact never
completed it, although all the tracks from the CD showed up in the
designated folder. When I attempted to play these tracks, MS responded with
a message to the effect that the player can't play either this CD or this
format.

However, when I put the same CD in just to play, not rip, WMP went right
ahead.

I changed the format to Windows Media Audio Lossless, and the player
smoothly ripped the files to the folder. When it was done, I could play the
tracks from that folder.

There is nothing wrong with this CD. If I just play it, WMP operates fine.
WMP can also rip and play its contents, albeit with my second choice of
format. What it can't do is play files in my preferred format, even though
it's one of the six ripping format options offered by the same WMP.

Any ideas?

Windows Media Player and Winamp

2012-01-12 Thread Danny Miles
Hi listers. I've just got a new Windows XP Home laptop and am trying
to get an accessible copy of Windows Media Player, but I don't seem to
be able to get anything below Version 9. I've been advised that I
won't be able to use this because you can't tab round to options like
Rip, Burn and Library once you've started playing a file. Can anybody
please tell me where I can either get an earlier copy of WMP (all of
the ones which I've tried to download seem to automatically update to
Version 11) or point me towards instructions for using Version 9 with
JFW 10.0? If neither of these is possible or suitable, I'd also be
grateful for advice on finding tutorials (and scripts if necessary)
for using versions of Winamp - also with JFW 10.0.

Many thanks in advance, Danny

Playing audio-described pal dvd with jaws 12 and windows media player

2011-10-08 Thread Kathy S.
Hey, all! Does anyone know how to get to the submenu in media player that
lets you choose audio description? My sighted husband can find that choice
using our hewlit-packard dvd player, but so far we can't figure out how to
find that special feature menu in windows media player with jaws. Any help
would be hugely appreciated!

Kathy

p.s. sorry if this is a re-post. Something really funky is going on with
Outlook, so I'm not always sure what gets sent and what doesn't. Sigh.

2011-10-07 Thread Kathy Szinnyey
Hi. Is there a way for a totally blind person to get to the special features
menu using jaws 12 and media playespecial features menu, but when I got to
the button for English for visually impaired, Jaws says that button is
unavailable. I knnow that my computer can in fact play pal with the audio
description using the Hewlit Packard dvd software (all graphical), and I
know that wWindows Media player, but my sighted husband and I can't seem to
find a way for me to get to those features independently.

I'm most puzzled, and I'd appreciate greatly any help any of you genius
people might have. Smile.
