Hmmm, that's an awfully big capacitor hanging off of pin 10. I assume that
COS out is used to drive some visual indicator, as the 2.2 µF cap

Not true. The American Red Cross has a Congressional mandate to do what
they do. It would require an act of Congress to
receiver. The squelch circuitry in the Maratrac is very good. Not as
good as a Micor, but way better than the Mastr II. Two of them would
make a very nice repeater, IMHO.
