Merely stick on the existing glass. Probably degrades the glass heating but no problem in VA. Took awhile to get used to (SO still has trouble!) but really eliminates the "small" sensation. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Well the high beam Cibies on the 87 535i finally have had too many hits. One now has a 30mm hole and the other has several bad chips and an 8mm hole. Anybody know a good source for replacements? I don't care what they get replaced with. I'd even do sealed beams if I could find a way to fit them easily. I have some similar ones in the dead e34 but don't think they will swap out. ?? Having reached 380k this has become the ever reliable "backup car". Still looks decent, runs great, don't smoke. Needs some new night eyes. Some E36s have flap in one of the two exhaust tips that opens at high load conditions. Is it vacuum operated? Couldn't a vacuum leak in the line to the flap cause a whistle? And yes, it was so tempting to say that is it a bad muffler bearing... :^) Scott Miller GGC BMW CCA >Date: Tue, 21 Dec 2004 06:44:05 -0800 (PST) >From: P Kroon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: Brian Daley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, [email protected] >Subject: Please help determine noise coming from rear >Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Hello all, > >1996 BMW 328i. Under slight load, there is a >whistling sound coming from the rear (I think the >drivers side). Under no load and heavy load, it goes >away. Never noticed the sound before. > >My first thought was that the sound is coming from the >muffler (maybe the exhaust by-pass valve?). Any >thoughts? > >It doesn't go away if I turn left or right. > >-Paul ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Dec 2004 09:30:15 -0800 (PST) From: P Kroon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [email protected] Subject: Re: Please help determine noise coming from rear Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Ha, I was waiting for someone to make the muffler bearing commment! Yes, my car has the flap you are referring to. That was what I was thinking it might be, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the muffler by-pass valve to open while revving it in neutral? I'm not sure I can convince my wife to get in the trunk as I drive down the road to see if the valve opens! Also, has anyone else heard of these valves causing this type of noise? Thanks! Drive around and see if the noise is gone. I've found that wives are not particularly appreciative after being locked in the trunk. At any rate, mine does. Is it worth replacing? It is not extremely loud, I just can't stand the ticking sound. I'm kind of anal about the sound of my car, and I find any ticking sound really distracting. At the same time, if it is likely just going to make noise again, I'm not sure it is worth replacing. Unless there's a leaf stuck in it, I can't imagine how it could make a ticking noise. Describe what you're hearing, and when.
