I have used BFG GForce KDWS in the winter and they are excellent. For less
performance, the Traction T/A works well also.

Gary,

I looked for the Traction T/A and couldn't find a tire with that name.

Do you have a link at Tirerack or on the web for the specifics on the tire.

I don't know why they are not listed at Tire Rack.

AA traction and nylon cap plies. Any tire that has both is suitable.

Not positive, but I think the Pilot A/S is available in that size too.

Has worked well on the family Audi AR, including a couple romps through snow
comperable to what you'd get in KC.

Subject: E30 gauges again
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hello.
Today I installed VDO oil temp. and oil pressure on my 87 E30 (325e).
Everything went ok for the most part, except when I took it for a test
drive the oil pressure really never got above 30 psi and after the car
warmed up, at idle the psi was 10. Now when I installed the oil pressure
sender which I got from Bavarian, the sending unit was snug when I
tightened it on to the adapter. I could only screw it on by hand about a
quarter of the way. When i put the wrench on and tightened the sending
unit onto the adapter, it was consistently snug. I stopped about three
quarters of the way so threads are still exposed. My question is, does
the sending unit screw all the way down onto the adapter on these E30's?
Are these threads tappered because they don't look like it, and none of
the threads on the sending unit or adapter are bunged up. I would turn it
some more, but I am afraid that it will strip. I would assume that if the
adapter was not down all the way and it should be, that I would be getting
a false reading from the sending unit. I believe 10 psi is pretty low for
idle. Shouldn't it be around 20?
Thanks again and in advance.

Ryan,

This is hydraulics. If it doesn't leak, your indication won't change no
matter how many turns into the adapter you make.

Whether the sending unit is correct, I cannot tell, but the mechanical
connection without leaking will not change the result.

Craig Robson wrote

"The typical operating range should be between 25/30 at idle to around
60-80 at the high end. People typically say 10 psi for every 1K rpms..."

If this is true then the lower pressure would be accurate for the ETA
motor. Driving home from the shop tonight, I never got the pressure over
30 psi. But I never shifted over 3000 rpm's. After the oil warms up, the
pressure at idle is just under 10. When the oil is cold, it is just below
20. The sending unit does not leak...so far...
Does the pressure situation seem normal to you guys considering the ETA
motor I have? The oil temp. stayed at about 180 the whole way home (30
miles).
Thanks again,
Ryan-
