Dear All,

For some reason the warning light for my brake pads is showing up on the
dash (89
325i).. I checked the sensors, and the pads and they are fine. Is there an
easy way to shut off the light? I check the pads enough, so I really do not
need the light..

Thanks in advance for your help!
Mo

Un plug the light from the instrument cluster.
This is what I did, because I too know when I need new brake pads.

Pull the bulb.

The most common causes for this light are a failed harness, just north of
the sensor connector, or a cracked solder joint on the instrument cluster's
main board.

How about the 10-40...seems like a nice balance...

The extended performance is A3 rated...

BMW oil is 5W-30 but on the thick side of the range, and is ACEA A3 rated.
Mobil 1 5W-30 is on the thin side of the range and is not ACEA A3 rated.
ACEA is a Euro rating. A3 is for high performance and high speed use.

In the Mobil 1 family, the 0W-40 and 15W-50 plus a new 10W-40 have the A3
rating.

I use 0W-40 in my M50 and 15W-50 in the S38.

See www.bobistheoilguy.com for lots of info, also www.mobil1.com.

You will have more power and better fuel economy with thinner oil, but more
wear.

Brian,

I use the Mobil1 0W40. A couple of years ago, when Mobil intro'd the
Supersyn formula there was some misinformation flying around the web. I
sent them a question via their site and they confirmed the Supersyn base
was the PAO type.

Subject: <E36> JTD underbody panel
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hey guys,

Just wanted to get some input/opinions on the JT Al
underbody panel. I currently have an aluminum
underbody panel, but I am unaware as to the
manufacturer or origin of it. I came into contact a
few months ago with some tire spikes on one of those
one way tire spike direction limiters, except this one
was above ground instead of in the ground.

As I drove over the unit, I stopped due to the car in
front of me stopping as it exited the driveway onto
the main street. After letting off the brake, the car
rolled back off the spike platform and I heard some
terrifying noise. I immediately freaked, as only days
before had I installed a new set of PS2s on all four
corners. I got out of the car and saw that one of the
mounting holes in the driver's side plastic panel that
covers the corner of the front valance (number 21 @
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BF93&mospid=47486&btnr=51_2758&hg=51&fg=15
) had caught on one of the tire spikes and been yanked
forward as I rolled back onto level ground. Clips
broke, as well as the mounting for this current
aluminum panel. After looking closely at it, the
mounting (just like the original) has plastic arms
that bolt up to the frame rails, and both of those had
torn out and are unrepairable.

In any case, I am looking for input you guys have
about the panel, and how durable it has been to
hitting parking blocks, bumps, bruises etc.

Thanks,
Brian

Brian,

I have the JTD panel on my 95 m3...it's one of the best things I ever did
for the car. This is the panel BMW SHOULD have put under the car. I went
through 3! plastic underpanels before I wised up. (I actually WISH it was
JUST an underpanel. The collection of little plastic pieces and associated
fasteners is not a fun thing to go through with the local BMW parts counter
guys) I did go through the effort of buying any other damaged pieces before
I installed the panel. That made the installation much easier and permanent.
I have not had ANY issues with my Al underpanel, I am the proverbial
perfectly satisfied customer.
That said, this thing is NOT armor plating. If I nosed into a curb hard
enough to cause the bumper cover to deflect more than 2 or 3 inches I can
expect to replace a few broken plastic pieces supporting the panel itself as
well as several fasteners which will promptly jettison themselves. Never
mind probably having to straighten my now BENT Al panel! LOL

Good luck, get the panel, you won't regret it.
With the money you save over not having to buy front bumper trim, go by an
old pickup and you can park it by feel without concern. ;-)

Cheers,
