A friend has a 94 530iA and there is a 2"x3" hole
under the tranny just above the front anti-roll bar.
This hole is uncovered. Should it be covered up?
What is this hole? I have very minimal auto tranny
experience so I can't help him. Thanks for any help!

I can't find anything in the ETK on it. If the hole is up by the anti-roll
bar, it is under the torque converter. Perhaps its an access hole for the
flex plate to torque converter bolts.

That is exactly what it is. The hole is actually in the engine oil pan,
which is designed to reinforce the trans/engine connection.

The hole should have a rubber plug in it. It's not a huge problem that
it's missing, but it's probably best to keep physical debris out of that
area.

The taillights on my 1995 M3 refuse to stop tripping
the brake light out message. 2/3 of the time I get
brake light messages (1/2 the time the bulb is working
and 1/2 of the time it is not working), and 1/3 of the
time I don't get any messages about the GD brake
lights. I've replaced the bulb, and the connector
seems to be fine.

Any suggestions. I'm about to put my foot through it.

FWIW, I had the same problem with my E38 740iL.  Drove me nuts;
intermittant. Tried new bulbs, etc. Ended up fixing it by taking a Dremel
tool and scraping away all of the oxidation on the contacts between the bulb
holder and where it seats. Got it down to shiny metal, now everything is
happy and no check lights!

Thanks everyone. I will try cleaning the housing
contacts further and hope for the best.

Strange, both BMWs I've had have done this, though not
a single other car I've owed ever has.

Hmmmz, I also have the Ultimates on my E30, and they're virtually
silent. Pretty dusty though. Nice to know that there is a better
alternative (Akebono).

I have the Axxis Ultimates on my E36 on a big brake kit, so far me no
likey. Moved from the Hawk HP+ as it is cold now and no need for high
performance pads and all the dust that goes with it. I'm about to
remove the brake kit and go back to stock for winter and the only pads
I have for the stock brakes are Metal Masters, I have a feeling I'm
gonna hate 'em but at this point I'm not about to spend any money on
brakes that I'll only use in the winter.

be another... Is this typical? Are there ways to improve it?

I'm selling a like new set of AD's. I've got 2 sets of springs to go with
them as well as adjusters to use as coilovers. These look absolutely LIKE
NEW. I was going to use these for my E36. Not sure about other applications.
You'd have to ask someone else.
