Marc,

Hello. Go to this web site
http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com/intakes.html and look at the item
named "ITG Filter No-Toil Oil/Cleaner Kit". This is the correct kit for
your ITG filter. The cleaner works pretty well, and just make sure that you
do not over oil the filter.

Have fun!

Finally got an ITG filter for my E36, which came equipped with an ECIS when
my wife bought it. I have a can of K&N filter oil. Is that OK for the ITG
foam filter? If not does anyone have a recommended source for the right
Oil?

Thanks

A good spraying with Castrol Super Clean mixed 4:1 has worked better on
K&N's and Pipercrosses than the special filter cleaning solutions.
Better on wheels than the Zymol Brite too.

Nebraska Judge Says 128 mph Not 'Reckless' Wed Dec 7, 4:35 PM ET

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. - Speeding is not necessarily reckless, even at 128 mph,
a judge ruled in the case of a motorcyclist who tried to flee from state
troopers.

With some reluctance, County Judge John Steinheider ruled last week that
Jacob H. Carman, 20, was not guilty of reckless driving on Sept. 5, when he
was spotted by a trooper who then chased him at the top speed of his
cruiser's odometer - 128 mph.

"As much as it pains me to do it, speed and speed alone is not sufficient to
establish reckless driving," the judge told Carman on Friday. "If you had
had a passenger, there would be no question of conviction. If there had been
other cars on the roadway, if you would've went into the wrong lane or
anything, I would have convicted you."

Otoe County prosecutor David Partsch acknowledged that Carman could have
been charged with speeding but, "We felt that the manner in which he was
operating the motorcycle was reckless."

Carman didn't get off entirely. He was fined $300 for expired tags and other
violations.

I just got a set of 16" steel rims for my car.
Does anyone have a suggestion for snow tires that are not too expensive and
also won't torment me too badly when it isn't snowing? Here in Maryland we
don't usually get much snow, but every now and then we get a few big storms
to make up for it. I survived for about 9 years with an MR2 on summer or all
season tires year-round, but now I don't have an engine sitting on top of
the drive wheels any more I guess I need the snow tires.

I would've guessed an MR2 is easy to spin out in slippery conditions.

Anyway, I have Pirelli Snowsports on the E36 M3 and Dunlop Graspics on
the E30 325i, I would recommend both of those tires to anyone.

Carlos.

I've had good results with the Pirelli P210 Snowsports on an E36 325 for a
couple of winters in the UK. We don't get the spectacular snow you can get
on occasion (Feb ' 03) but they perform adequately on dry/damp roads and if
snow comes they are not fazed.

Debating whether to change to the Pirellis right now.

Will 16" wheels from other e36 (or 5 series for that
matter) fit on a 95 m3? I'd like to put 16" snow
tires on.

No, they will not. There are a few aftermarket 16" wheels that will fit (I'm
running a set of Mille Miglias that are OK), but generally you'll need 17"s

A BMW touring has 53% or more weight on the drive wheels, that is pretty
good. Add traction control and they do very well.

For the best snow performance, go skinny and aggressive with a Q speed
rating. For dry roads go wider with an H rating.

Depending where in Maryland you live, I'd go with good all season tires and
a set of cable chains for the bad days or ski trips.

Nokian has the best snow tires, but they're expensive. I've had good luck
with Dunlop Graspic and Yokohama Guardex.

I too have had Guardex and Graspics. Both good, but the Guardex seemed
squishier on dry pavement, and definitely wore more quickly.

Those Guardex were owned 8 years ago, so take it for what it's worth.

Personally, I'd rather stay home than chain up anymore, so take that as
a definite vote in favor of dedicated snow tires!

I had Guardex on a Volvo 850. There was a huge difference in handling
compared to the Dunlop SP 4000 A/S summer tires. On the 525iT, I have the
Graspics. There is very little difference in handling compared to BFG KDWS
tires even going from 55 series 16s to 65 series 15s. This has a lot to do
with the balanced nature of a BMW but also something to do with the tires.

In short, I agree with Tom.

The ".GOV" extension on your address makes me bet you're in the DC area.

You can go with strong all-seasons like Nokian NRWs or Michelin Pilot A/S, but
if you have dedicated snow wheels, I'd go ahead and get some dedicated snow
tires. The Michelin Pilot Alpins are a nice balance of snow and dry handling,
and seem to wear pretty well and do OK on dry roads. The Bridgestones are
great on snow and ice, but not as happy on dry or wet roads. Realize that NO
snow tire will give you great simmer handling, and it's not nice to the softer
rubber compound to torture them around offramps anyhow.

Gary Darien's comment about cable chains might be more applicable out West
(beyond Hagerstown). but I wouldn't want to clump around the beltway with cable
chains on.

I have been running the Michelin Pilot Alpins for a few winters - am
extremely happy with them.

I have taken 120 miles trips in heavy snow without any problems.

In the dry they do fine - similar to an All season tire. They also do well
in wet conditions.

I live on Kent Island and work north of Baltimore. I am thinking I could
have nice performance tires on my alloy wheels and then just switch over to
the steel wheels whenever it snows. At the rate we get snow here the snow
tires might dry rot before they wear out.
