Hey all,

Well I bought the 750 and I LOVE it. I really didn't think I'd like such a
big car so much. Even the wife likes it, and she really dislikes big cars,
she commutes an M-Coupe fer crissakes!

Well on to the question...
I am going to reseal the transmission.

Front & rear trans seals, rear engine main seal, selector shaft seat,
solenoid relay seals (internal), and the trans filter kit.
I am also getting the torque converter rebuilt as I am getting a Check
Engine light for code 111, "Lock-up clutch too much slip"

Since I want to "stage" the parts so I can R&R the trans in one session,
(ah, the best laid plans...), I am looking for a torque converter to send
off for a rebuild. I have found several 740 cores but no 750 cores although
they both use the same 5HP30 transmission. I have been told by a couple of
experience mechanics that these torque converters are different between the
740 and the 750. Is that correct? If that's the case. I'm going to have to
lay the car up while the torque converter gets rebuilt.

Anybody got a spare 750 torque converter laying around?!?

Looking for a core in Houston,

I have the DEPO DOT/US Ellipsoid for E36 with Chromium Angel Eyes and
Xenon upgrade, with clear film protection - 6k bulbs. Bought from
Umnitza.

These are the newer DEPO lights that are as good as ZKW. Admittedly I
have not used the ZKW but these are good, solid, obviously well made
lights. And the light output is amazing compared to the originals on my
1996 328iC.

And Umnitza, in my limited experience, is great to deal with.

Kevin,
I'll second the ZKW recommendation. It was really astounding how bad
those
cloudy stock lights were. This is a huge improvement IMHO.

I got mine from Understeer.com at a good price (just a bit better than
UMZITA)

What's the deal with these E36 headlight cassettes with the projector
type
lights? Do they really have a performance benefit over the stock US
lights
or is it just hype?
Any reputable brands with complete wiring solution?

The converters are different by more than 2 inches I believe. An M62
converter will not engage the splines on the pump shaft of a V12 5HP30.

Now that I have added a 2001 740i to the fleet, I find myself with
exactly the wrong combination of Peake code readers, so I'm offering
them for sale:

1. Peake R-5 FCX code/reset tool. From the manual, covers most
BMW's from 1987 to 2000 (including my '95 and '97, but not 7-series
after 1998/99, and not my new '01). Includes (slightly tatty) manual
and plastic hard case. Asking $100 + shipping from 19301.

2. Peake R5 SRS-16 airbag code reader. This is the model designed
to plug into the OBD II port, rather than the diagnostic port under
the hood. Apparently this is most '01 and up BMW's, except my 2001
740i. Comes with a nice zippered pouch and pristine manual. Asking
$100 + shipping from 19301.

I'd be willing to consider a swap + deal for someone wanting to move
backwards from a newer code reset tool, and someone wanting to move
forwards to a newer airbag code reader.

My E30 318is with Dinan chip has trouble idling when warmed up,
it tends to want to stall. The plugs and wires are a couple of
years old. The thermostat is 11 years old with 80kmiles, heat
is good. The O2 sensor is 9 years old with 50kmiles. I haven't
attempted any serious diagnostics yet, it's too cold, but am
curious about the expected life. Oh yeah, the airflow meter
was replaced just before the O2 sensor.

TIA

Steve,

Check the ICV (Idle Control Valve), its between the intake manifold
and the firewall. They periodically need to be cleaned and lubed. I
did that recently on my '91 318ic. Not sure about the O2 though. A
really great resource for info on the M42 powered E30's is at http://
m42club.com/forums/index.php

Goodluck!
