When you say "CPO- factory," are you referring to a dealer that turns
over a high number of CPO vehicles or to having bought the car from a
factory-owned dealership? I ask only because the CPO standards are
often purportedly higher at factory dealerships.

It hasn't been the same since Duane Collie left. He would kick off many
conversations that would take on a life of their own. I suspect some of the
regulars were invited to the new party, where ever that is. The rest of us
are left here to try to make the best of it.

Hi there Folks,

I used to get a lot more emails than what I have now, have people left
the group, or what has happened? Thanks very much in advance. There will
even be days before I see a post.

One item that has reduced traffic is the need to "reply all" in order for
the list to get a response.

Also more specialized groups.

I'm on an E30 M3 list, and E34 list and so on. If I have a M3
question I go to that list.

The "reply all" requirement bites me darn near every time I reply to a
list message. That change in the list's behavior was not an improvement.

a lot of us are over at the UUCGarage group in yahoo groups...but, duane
has also left there, and the email traffic isnt what it used to be...but
still, i get lots of info and advice from that group- it's pretty much
an open forum where you can talk about anything...

come on in and join us there...search the archives, and you'll see a lot
of great threads too...

Duane leaves every group he ever joins or starts, usually more than
once. That's been his pattern for as long as I can remember, all the
way back to the old Welty list.

People who need to be big fish also tend to be the type Orwell wrote
think they are "more equal" than others. They will make or find
whatever pond they need, however small, if that's where they can be
bigger than other swimmers.

Anyone ever change the door seal on a older 911? In this case my '78 911SC.
It needs new door seals and I wonder if after I peel off the current seal,
is there a solvent which will remove the old glue without removing the
paint? Or if I make a boo boo with the 3M seal glue, I'd like to be able to
recover.
Ohhh, the problem is I noticed water in the footwells and traced it to the
door seals. I'd like to get the car ready for sale and will fix this before
selling it. OBMWC- we'll put the money into building an E30 for autocross.

3M has a glue remover, also goo gone, or even kerosene.

I've got a can of the 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover that I bought about 8
months ago to attempt to clean off some of the baked-on cosmoline in my engine
bay. It didn't work too well, but worked great at starting to remove the clear
coat and paint. Boo. $14 down the drain, unless someone wants to buy it off
me. It would probably work great for removing adhesives as long as you don't
rub too much. Funny thing is the can says it works without damaging cured
paint.

The problem with the paint in the engine compartment, wheel wells,
and underbody, is that a lot of it just seems to be overspray and/or
not really bonded to the metal. Especially, if you are like me, and
you start using a scrub brush on the underbody along with Oil Flow
Safety Solvent.

I use 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover for the easy stuff and Oil
Flow Safety Solvent for the really nasty cosmoline and glue stuff.
