---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2007 17:29:48 -0400 From: Mark Alan Selleck <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: BMW list <[email protected]> Subject: TWO e28 cars FOR SALE Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> An unfortunate "accident" is motivating me to sell two e28s: Car #1, 1985 535i, has been our daily driver for several years, until the accident (My son, driving an unfamiliar road, came into an intersection with a 4-lane divided highway at the 45mph spead limit on a green light, not realizing, until too late, that there was a HUGE dip at the median. He hit the brakes, but too late: oil pan hit the road HARD, cracked, oil leak resulted, which led to a fried engine.) The car's history: BMW factory mechanic maintained thru 65k miles, at which point said mechanic purchased the car from original owner. Mechanic's wife drove the car, while he continued to maintain it, until 145k, when she tired of the manual 5spd. He sold it to a customer of his (He'd opened an indi shop.), who had it about a month before he decided he needed a mini-van, and traded it on a (cough) Chrysler product. I purchased it at that time. The car now has 277k on the odometer. The car is in decent shape overall, but has some "issues". Plus: paint is very good, repainted a few years ago after a low-speed rear-end collision (Stop & go on I-95 due to an accident up ahead, driver of a large Jeep in back of me neglected to note I'd stopped and ran over the top of my rear bumper at about 10-15mph. Damage repaired, no problems with trunk leaks. At that time I elected to have the whole car re-painted. Some small paint chips around the drivers door lock from my wife's big wad of keys.) Upholstery in good shape, minor cracking, no tears, manual seats. No transmission problems. Set of e34 15" rims, about due for new tires. Negative: air conditioner blows cool, but not cold (changed to 134 a few years ago), electric door lock mechanism just started acting up at the driver's door, driver door interior release handle just came loose(trim ring cracked). Fuzzy weather-stripping around the doors coming loose. Headliner is "brittle", and has some impact perforations. Radio needs replacement. Car is Diamond Black, beige/cream interior. Car #2, 1987 535is. This car was mistreated prior to my purchasing it for my son. Not mechanically, but: apparently it spent most of it's down-time in a high-temperature tanning booth. Dash looks like the Grand Canyon. Cheap re-paint, looks OK from 100'. The car was in a "minor" accident (Again, my son...no comments, please.) when it hit some ice and spun out, hitting the interstate exit-ramp wall "gently". Only apparent damage was to the bumper, though I've recently noticed that the rear of the hood needs to be pulled forward to clear the windshield wipers so as to open the hood. Hood gaps look good, and no problems with irregular tire wear, so I'm not sure what the problem might be, but it appears minor. Bumper was replaced with an un-cracked good used one. Electric sport seats work (except for the headrests), but need to be re-upholstered (BMW seat covers currently reside.) Car has electric gremlins: interior lights don't work, door locks negative, original radio was draining the battery, so it's disconnected ( A couple of years ago the sunroof drains clogged, and the car was taking on water. My son was leaving the car in outdoor long-term parking at the airport often, so the car got wet.....inside as well as out.) . Headlights work fine, alternator and battery test very good. My son (This was his driver.) recently put $1000+ into the front suspension (bushings, idler arms--I believe) and the car handles nicely. The engine was replaced with a used example with 125k on it at 225k(odometer at 250k now), runs VERY strong.(I thought about taking that engine and putting it in the other, but my wife has decided she wants something a bit more recent.) Rims are MSW alloys, staggered set. The car isn't here right now, or I'd give you the sizes. My wife is driving this car every day to her teaching job right now, with no dependability problems. Both of these cars are for sale, and I'd like to move them soon. If you have any interest, please get in touch. Any other questions, let me know, and I'll try to answer them. I don't have pictures at this point, but can take some if interest is expressed. Price is negotiable: buy both and you get a really good deal! Any interest, and, if you force me, I'll give you a price we can start from. Thanks, Mark Selleck PS> Any chance I can sue the state hwy dept for contributory negligence in the accident? No warning signs anywhere near the intersection, and the road is torn up from people hitting it. A co-worker, who lives near the intersection, told my wife "we enjoy sitting at the light, watching people go bouncing through the intersection". ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2007 18:26:48 -0400 From: Mark Alan Selleck <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Subject: TWO e28 cars FOR SALE Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Some say those of us over 60 are brain dead, but, the reality is that it just takes the neuron impulses longer to travel from thought to action: At least this happened before I had to be reminded: I'm located near Charlotte, NC. And, since my wife returned with the second car, I can tell you that the MSW rims are 16", BBS type pattern; rear tires are 225/55x16, the fronts 205/50x16. The "big" thing with that head that some shops push as an advantage is double valve springs. Problem is that the double valve springs are there to carry the extra weight of the 7mm valve train. The vanos head is much superior in valve train with it's smaller 6mm valves and the later S52 conical springs. Brett Anderson KMS Paul Garnier wrote: > Hmmmm...non-vanos 325i solid lifters? I'm not even sure I'm doing this right. I've been looking for a nice E34 535i Manual for a couple months. Every time I find one it either sells before I get there or the owner changes his mind! Arrg! So..., I'm switching gears and looking for an E39 528i 5 speed. Preferably a sport in nice shape. No green exterior! I would prefer tan or black interior, no gray. Let me know if you hear of anything. I'm in Cape Girardeau, MO ( 100 miles south of St. Louis).
