Charlotte, the block of pet owner voters that enabled a few anti-AKC breeders to control most of the decisions of the old club and the history of the problems that this has caused is undeniable. What about the mess caused by turning down the invitation to be the parent club? What about the fact that many pet owners contacted will vote against allowing CKCSC dogs to be bred with AKC dogs? Most pet owners simply did not and do not understand the ramifications of these issues and their detriment to the breed. While you may not be easily influenced by the breeder of your pet, that is not the case for a large number of pet owner members. Now, having said that, I want to emphasize that I am not belittling the pet owner. Some of the finest people that I know have never bred a dog. However, until you actually experience the frustrations of finding a healthy stud that is registered like your own dogs, whelping a heartbreak litter, or dealing with genetic cleansing of your bloodline, you will not truly understand the situation. I can sympathize with a diabetic, but until I'm the one who has to watch every bite of food, pop the insulin shots, deal with the dangers of fluctuating sugar levels, bad circulation, amputated feet, sores that don't heal, and coma, I'll never truly know what it is like to be a diabetic.
